    Before replacing it or doing any hardware fix, try to find the wifi drivers and patches from apple for your mac. If it didn't fixed it, try installing a lower OS in another partition and see if this will fix it. Of course if there are any OS updates for your current system install them.

    Hi, I have a 2010 13 inch macbook running high sierra, but this problem has already been present when running the original OS for this mac. My problem is that the wifi card cannot detect any networks. Very rarely though, it can detect the networks but cannot maintain a connection very long. If it does detect and connect to networks, signal and connectivity is very good(full bars and fast connection)
    Other devices in the house can detect and connect to networks without problems.
    I have tried adding a new location, deleting the wifi and adding it again in system preferences, deleting keychains and preference files, and even opening up the laptop and remove and reinsert the wifi card but none have solved the problem. I cannot tell if there is a problem with the antenna. All the cables seem to be attached. Status of wifi in system preferences is not associated but it can detect the wifi card and has a mac address.
    Should I just replace the wifi card? Or is this an antenna problem?

  • @conlaghfinnegan8578
    @conlaghfinnegan8578 Před 11 lety

    I'm guessing that the "pad" at the top of the card you removed was a thermal pad? I have the 2008 model, which uses a pink thermal pad, but the replacement board I got doesn't have a pad on it, same as yours. Will this not mean the card will heat up a lot and eventually damage itself?

    Sadly, I did this and it isn't working. When I hit the "+" sign to add WiFi, it's not showing up. Even when I got to advanced or assistant, it shows WiFi as grayed out; I cant click it. So I'm guessing its the cable, praying not to port :*(. Can you tell me how to install that? There's a third piece that goes into the screen and I have no idea how to disconnect/replace that part. Please and thank you!

      check to see if your bluetooth works... if it does then you dont need to replace the card. Oddly, it is usually the airport bluetooth cable that needs replacing. Hope this works for you.

    • @AssyrianKing4ever
      @AssyrianKing4ever Před 7 lety +1

      They said $75 for the new wifi card and $80 for labor but I didn't do it.
      I did it myself and it cost me about $61. Bought the wifi card from Walmart for $21, replaced the Airport/Bluetooth Cable from IFIXIT for $30, and also bought the screw driver from Home Depot for roughly $10.

      Use pliers to unscrew it but don't put huge torque on the pliers or you will destroy the screw head.

    • @davidgorczyca6854
      @davidgorczyca6854 Před 10 lety

      there are "screw extractors" for this purpose. you need to get a micro one to match the screw diameter. basically they are like a drill bit but with the helical blade in the opposite direction as the screw. so, when you drill deeper into the screw metal, the screw gets unscrewed.
