How much does making such information public actually help push the companies to improve their products? I still see videos showing the same design flaws in locks even newer locks. Is there any data on this?
I am not sure. However, companies are slow to change because the vast majority still buy them

Which lock would you recommend for this task?

To be honest with you, I have not really researched alternatives. However, many realtors in my area use an electronically controlled one which seems like a better option but I do not know much about it.
It's nearly impossible to produce a mechanical combination lock that cannot be either bypassed or decoded. And most electronic locks lack the proper physical resistance. Abus and Assa-Abloy have some combination padlocks that at least require special tools and a good amount of knowledge and skill to decode them (SRB36, 190/60CS). Best option would be a small, certified strongbox with an electronic lock to be used as a key box.

No. Don’t bin them. Place them around the house with random codes and no keys inside. That can slow down a potential burglar. Leave notes inside like “ not this one, you are getting close, keep looking”. Put a hidden cam above them, to get some good pictures for the police

I unfortunately use one of these. But, it’s pretty well hidden on my property. Even when I told someone exactly where it was, they couldn’t find it without me walking them through step by step over the phone. So, the person would have to first find it (by feel because it’s out of sight), know how to decode, and be good enough to be able to decode it without looking at it within the tight space where it’s bolted down. At least I hope...
Might as well just hide the key?
