  • Hoarded for 37 years & recorded by ME, on Nov. 8th, 1980 at the Von Braun Civic Center in Huntsville, Alabama using a pocket Sony tape recorder about the size of a small brick, lol. Security must've thought I was ''gifted''...which I naturally am :-D I had a backstage pass too, as ''other circumstances came to light'' that Summer of 1980 in Boston (but I'm saving that for my book.)...I would see Dave & Company maybe a couple of weeks later at home in Nashville (took a couple of photos) but then realized how cool it would be to record a show, so I snuck the tape recorder & the Kodak pocket instamatic 110 with flash bar in my underwear...stand back people, I was on a mission, lol. Back then no cameras & especially recorders weren't allowed, and although I may have been able to get away with it from the band I didn't want to ask them, besides the thrill of sneaking it in was half the fun! Huntsville was the last show of the tour on a Saturday night south of the border in Alabama...believe it or not, a great town for a rock concert and always a sell-out...we just don't agree on college football, as you can hear me & Marty yelling after he says ''Tennessee Tea'' with a ''hell yeah'' & ''#1'', lol...we are very prideful in ''The South'' as a whole though, we were banded together by that, which the rest of the country never got. The confederate flag to us is (was) ''Rock-n-Roll RebelIian & Southern Pride'' and nothing racist about it...not in the 80's...maybe the 1880s, but I digress. At one point I ask Marty can you see how much tape is left? and (as you hear) he says I can barely see it as we were packed like sardines on the front row (all General Admission back then, no chairs), yet was also able to get a killer photo or 2...I had come up with a LIVE Van Halen album idea...calling it ''This Aint No Disco!'' and made a cover with my photos from Huntsville and airbrushing...I had Al & Mike on the back (ala Cheap Trick, lol) Anyway, I didn't realize how close to the end of side A on the cassette I was, but am so grateful I was able to capture this non-album track of Dave's now legendary whimsical give & take rap with the audience on the bluesy ''Bright Lights, Big City''...I'd say the most important track on my tape...when you hear it end...my tape ran out right there, but was able to flip it over in time for ''Everybody Wants Some''. So after 37 years of this old cassette lying in the bottom of a shoe box, I'm sharing it for free with the true Van Halen fan loving world. Depending on how well this is received I may add more tracks from this concert in the future...I also did the 1982 Tour from there too, however, I havent found that tape....yet. Make no copies! Feel free to share this...because if it's copied and claimed by another (as Ive ran into that problem before), then I wont upload anymore. To deter that, I have talked over spots with my ''Diamonds-In-The-Rough''-logo, LOL...very Darth Vader-like, lolol. so may the Mighty Van Halen, be with you!

Amazing for a pocket recorder 40 years ago of an unreleased VH performance!

The last show of the tour was actually in Jacksonville, FL. Please upload the full show to Dime-A-Dozen. Tons of 1980 VH shows and no need to watermark an audio bootleg in 2020, LOL. Did you record other shows?

@@thediamondmine2263 Awesome quality, I'd love to hear the whole show. If you post it to Dime with your notes then you'll get the credit as the taper and there'll be a whole lot of grateful VH fans.

I think I was at this show. I don't remember the date but it was the 80 81 invasion. Who was the opening band. G force was the opening band at the show I saw. I remember he smoked what he said was a joint on stage. I've talked to other people on my life and was there and remember that too.
