Manchester City were relegated from the Premier League on the final day of the 1995/96 season. A 2-2 draw with 3rd place Liverpool was not enough to save City as they went down on goal difference.

Quinn was a great player for City, especially in the early 90's when they finished 5th twice. City really went downhill in 1995 when Alan Ball took over, the squad he inherited was much too good to be relegated. He sold the likes of Walsh, Phelan and Beagrie as soon as he arrived.
City shouldn't have sacked Peter Reid in '93, that's when started rapidly declining. Reid went on to have great success with Sunderland (and Quinn) when City were yo yo ing divisions.
When Keegan came to City is when things really started looking up. Don't think he gets the credit he deserves from a lot of City fans (also David Bernstein was a great owner). Keegan attracted great players like Anelka, Berkovic and Bernarbia and played great football.
'93 - '01 were the lost years in my book, through a combination of bad ownership decisions and bad management.
Wembley '99 was a great moment but City shouldn't have been in that position in the first place.
Quinn, Walsh and Beagrie were my favorite players. When City bought Walsh and Beagrie, I was amazed. Been a fan since 1993... Wnet to see them live in 1996. I never forget the people chanting "Swales Out!"
@@demirdemirbag3194
Yep I remember it well mate.
Swales had been in charge for years, wasn't spending much money, and the fans frustration was understandable - but the irony was Francis Lee came in as a hero, but his tenure was a disaster and they ended up in a worse position than with Swales!
Francis Lee quickly brought in his good mate Alan Ball, and we know how badly that went.
Today you tell me that Man city got relegated, i'd say that probably Man city are run by Bartomeu....

@Muhammed Enam Ahmed 170041036 👍 Oil moment destroyed the game
@@barryb90 nope the premier league in general destroyed the game esp after Euro 96
Well Alan Ball came into City after a great spell at Southampton Matt Le Tissier had said on record that Ball was his favourite manager to work under but his time at City was controversial because many of the City fans felt that he only got the job because he knew the chairman Francis Lee and the City fans felt that his predecessor Brian Horton hadn't done anything wrong which was debatable because under Horton City had finished 16th and 17th whereas under his predecessor Peter Reid City were never out of the top 10. First mistake selling Paul Walsh who scored 15 goals the previous season in exchange for Gerry Crainey who only scored 4 goals that season. Second mistake changing the playing style which resulted in falling out with Uwe Rosler which culminated in Rosler berating him and pointing at his shirt after he scored in the derby against United. Ultimately City's dreadful start to that season done them in only 2 points from the first 11 games that's what ultimately sent them down.
