How to (almost) win a race in a Hillman Imp!

- My first visit to Thruxton and definitely won't be my last.
I fitted a standard gearbox for this event to get the longer ratios for the long straights. This helped overall top speed but the huge gaps between gears meant it lost its punch out the corners. Also no LSD so hard braking was interesting.
Qualifying and race 1 wasn't great, for race 2 I had my eyes set firmly on getting in front of the blue and orange Imp. A good start put me right up with the pre 83's and I managed to get away from the first complex avoiding the drama.
Unfortunately I under estimated the fuel consumption and started to suffer severe fuel starve in the second half of the race, I think there was a race win/podium in it otherwise.
Enjoy!

I left a small selection of ratios for JK box at Ian Sykes place. Thanks for reminding me.....;~)
I'd have guessed fuel starvation was more likely through Church that being the fastest corner in British motorsport and all...
So close James, epic driving! So wanted you to catch that podium back at the end there. Can you adjust gear ratio for more top end speed on tracks like this? 👍🥈🏆
Thanks Neil
I put a standard box in for this event which has a long top gear, it was pulling 7500 in top before the chicane so if anything slightly too long! The ideal way to do is to have loads of ratios for the dog box I usually run but they’re mega expensive and rare to find
Do you think the fuel starve cost you a podium finish. A fantastic race none the less.
Cost me the race win!!
