This feels more like “top 10 horror movie characters who directly caused their fate” rather than “top 10 horror movie characters who got what they deserved.” Like, not double-tapping the crazed murderer in wolf creek doesn’t mean one of the protagonists deserved the nightmarish “head on a stick” fate they got, y’know?

Agreed. I thought the same thing during the Wolf Creek and I Know What You Did Last Summer scenes. However, "10 Errors that Unalived Horror Movie Characters" doesn't have the same ring as "10 Horror Victims Who Got EXACTLY What They Deserved." It is also a reason I stopped watching almost all WhatCulture videos: inaccurate titles that seem like clickbait.

Due to some additional scenes and parts from the novelization that never made it to release, Burke has and even more satisfying death.
The alien didn't kill him in the escape scene, but took him to be facehugged. During the taking process, Burke tries to reason with the alien (out of desperation I assume) and even tries to cut a deal to let him go, causing the alien to hurt him to shut him up ("You can't sleaze your way out of this one").
Ripley later finds him when she's looking for Newt, cacooned and on the cusp of having the chestburster pop. He mentions that he can feel it inside him and that there's so much pain and begs her to help him. She hands him a grenade and leaves, letting the corporate lackey have one last "deal" he has to sign off on... a painful torso eruption or having to finish it himself. He chose the latter.

    • @oliverholmes-gunning5372
      @oliverholmes-gunning5372 Před 3 měsíci +10

Yeah, it was definitely one of the stupidest character decisions in the franchise, but there were extenuating circumstances. A very large number of Jigsaw's traps rely on the victim being too panic-stricken or disoriented to take a step back and think logically, which is a lot easier to do when you're watching on-screen without the threat of impending death or mutilation. If she'd encountered the box right at the beginning of the movie then I'd agree, she'd have got what she deserved for being so stupid. But at that stage she was physically and mentally exhausted and foggy from the gas, just seeing the syringe would have prompted her to stumble blindly for it. I'd say a far stupider death in that movie alone was Obi, who got into the metal furnace thing without inspecting the back of it first to see that there was an escape hatch, or even the police snitch right at the start who triggered the spike mask trap timer by lunging forward and pulling the cord out without even trying to see what the setup was.

I'm gonna say something about the Saw films. I know some of the traps have easy solutions, some have horrific solutions, and some are unwinnable. To me, as a recovering addict, it serves as a perfect allegory for getting clean. The solutions are easy (in terms of getting your life back), horrific (withdrawals and confronting things you've done), and unwinnable (you're never going back to where you were before your addiction, it's all new territory from here). So I'll never have anything but empathy for those in the games. They, like so many addicts, don't see all three of those outcomes and/or accept their symbiosis.

It's incredibly unfair to say she deserved that fate when her mind only had two firing brain cells left and just went "oh antidote need must get oh no antidote gone must try to save noooooooo". I really must argue some of these.
9, 8, and 5 fall under the classic misunderstanding that movie watchers fall into: the characters are not in a safe omnipotent observation where they can analyze. They are down on the ground, flooded with emotion, which is likely some combination of fear, panic, and general chaos. People exploding with mortal terror, especially if they are not used to it, DO NOT ACT RATIONALLY. They act on instinct: fight, flee, freeze. And that's why they run away from rolling ships in a straight line (Prometheus) or stay in the cursed house for an extra night after saving their daughter (Poltergeist) or as listed, don't do things like 'don't shove their arms into an obvious trap box', or stop to look behind themselves, and above all else, put a bullet into a villain's head like you would expect some trained assassin who has killed before to do. People don't DO that. They become dumb, panicky animals. This is even shown directly in Scream: Sidney says on the phone "The girl goes running up the stairs instead of out the front door." Two minutes later, what does she do when a knife wielding killer confronts her? Runs up the stairs.
10 really falls under 'Kids are incredibly stupid and do very stupid things'. Have you SEEN how mean and dumb teenagers can be before the empathy centers in their brains have actually grown some?
I would argue 6 is being mean spirited because you can also argue that Bron was being incredibly brave and his death was a tragedy. Or would you say soldiers who dived on grenades to save their fellows, only for all their fellows to be killed in later battles, were stupid and got what they deserved as well?
3 isn't just grief. It's made pretty clear that the cursed burial ground can work influence on people and is basically pushing hard on the flaws in people's heads, if they're not just outright influencing them: Judd laments that he thinks it influenced him to tell Louis about it to begin with, and it also made the truck driver drive at high speed without paying attention, and made Judd fall asleep so he couldn't stop Louis. And by the time Louis carries his wife out there, it's pretty clear he's basically gone insane.
The rest, though, yeah, those fit.

Addison was poisoned and panicking. She was watching people dying, and she was disoriented. She absolutely did not "deserve" it. In the grand scheme, she was one of our good guys.
    Helen? Seriously? Helen. GTFO.
Brom was in the town militia. His job was to protect the people. He was a jerk, but he was doing his job.
This is a bad list. You people need to get over your issues with certain movie characters. They show up in multiple lists.

I’d argue Addison didn’t get what was coming to her. You gotta think she’s trapped in a highly stressful and confusing situation, she was the first to show side effects from the nerve gas (spitting blood), she could barely stand just before entering that room. Her seeing the antidote in that box, mixed with her near delusional state from the nerve gas would have given her a severe case of tunnel vision

My family grew up on one of the main entry roads to our town and because of that we were always told to play in the church yard (my dad was a pastor so we had the church property we could play in). If u move somewhere and the neighbours tell u "just so u know that road is dangerous" the first thing im doing is putting a fence so my toddler can't run into the road.

In Liz’s defense she did rack the bolt and tried to shoot him again but the gun was empty so she couldn’t empty the clip into him. Yes she could have beat his head into mush but that level of violence and brutality really wasn’t in her character. Even in this situation very few would have the stomach to do such a thing. Where she really made a mistake was going back.

Roades didn't kill the Dr because he showed him the zombies could be domesticated, he had him killed because he found out he was feeding his kens corpses to bub as a reward for his civility, "there's no point to civility without reward". And I wouldn't say that was one of the goriest deaths in cinema, not even close, maybe in the movie, I don't even think it was the goriest in the franchise either. Helen being on this list is dumb, she shouldnt have turned around but u dint think she deserved to die for that. And in pet semetary louis did nake ridiculous choices, yes he was grief stricken but also the burial ground had the ability to prey on a person's weakness and draw them to it, even compelled judd to tell him about it when he really didnt want to. It elaborates more on that in the book, talking if how they go up the hill of fallen trees like theyve done it a million times and like something else was moving their legs for them and they barely remembered the journey there. but it is mentioned in tbe movie. Between the overwhelming grief and the supernatural grip of the graveyard he didnt stand a chance. None of us can say that we wouldnt do the same, wed like to think so but we dint really know what that would be like.
