It was a luck of the draw, and they only had to sacrifice goats if the card didn't come up. Therefore a human sacrifice hadn't happened in twenty years, so family weren't prepared to hunt a person, and only the last one to have to sacrifice a spouse even actually believed in their benefactor as anything more than a story, probably a huge part of Adam Brody's character defecting. There's a whole running gag about how most of the adult kids didn't know how to use their weapons.

Just ONE reason I love Willy's Wonderland is how Nick's character is the strong silent type. You know you have a great actor when you can do what he did in this movie.
I believe it the the pulling of the hide 'n' go seek card is what threw the Le Domas family. If I remember right the other card options don't involve ritual sacrifice only that particular one which is why their are existing spouses and children in the family. Grace by the way showed resilience and pluck that the La Domas family was woefully unprepared for. As for the trio in Don't Breath I wouldn't say unprepared as much as I would say they underestimated their victim so to speak yet flashlights would've helped tremendously a reversal situation for Roat in Wait Until Dark. Signs is one of Shayamalan's worst I liked the film right up until the ending twist as you said the aliens were the cosmos' biggest idiots and the twist ruined what was a solid flick up to that point.

It's not that they were unprepared in general. They just weren't prepared for someone that actually knew what they were doing. Also she was a survivalist, not a former survivalist. You don't get raised in that kind of environment and then just shrug it off like an old pair of clothes that doesn't fit any more. Last point - they didn't do any research on Erin, they simply wanted her left alive and clueless to be the outside witness with no other ties to the family or the area. If she had been prepared beforehand there's a chance she might even have gone along with the plan if he had given her some sob story about family abuse first to justify it.
The Collector was well prepared for the mercenaries that came looking for Elena. He was just never prepared for Arkin's wits since the first movie. He was his one weakness.

He could have had the aliens' weakness be literally any other surprisingly common thing that one could find in a house (like sugar, or pepper, or some kind of cleaning product, for example) and the story could have worked because it would have been plausible that the aliens might not have accounted for something like that that wouldn't exist on their world. But revealing that this particular alien invasion could have legitimately been fought off with garden houses and squirt guns? Come on! Also, in Ready or Not, the family only hunts the new in-laws that draw the Hide and Seek card. If they killed all new members, the family couldn't continue past one generation.
I like the Fan Theory that the aliens in Signs are actually demons, and that the water used against them was effective because it was Holy Water blessed (at various times) by various Holy persons across the planet.
My theory is that the little girl’s claims that the water was “contaminated” was actually correct and perhaps the farm’s pesticides had gotten into their well water and that was what the aliens were actually reacting to, rather than the water itself. Also, with how low-tech the aliens were, my guess is that there were an expendable slave-race being used as ground troops to test human defense capabilities without tipping their hand to their actual combat prowess, tactics, or tech. Once these fail, they take the data and use it to prepare the actual invasion force.

Signs could have done better if they said it was the fluoride in the water they were reacting to instead of just water. That makes the oceans and the rain not being a threat make sense while ALSO the glasses of water his daughter left everywhere still being useful.
I like people’s imagination but that would be a more plausible explanation than that they are really demons (who can be filmed) and the water is so called holy water. I have not seen the movie but would they not have their own well?. was Shihoh really a villain of Fall? Sure she boinked her friend's ex, and sure the whole idea to climb the tower was ill conceived, but i didn't really see her as a villain. Ready or Not and Not-Margot Robbie was such a fun movie. Too bad Not-Margot robbie was killed off in S6, would've been fun to see her in the series.
She was not a villain of the movie in any means just because she banged her friend's boyfriend. She didn't do anything cruel in the movie itself, she didn't make them stuck on purpose, she didn't do anything to her friend for her own survival. She even risked her life to save them both and died
I always have to bring this up when Signs is discussed: it wasn't necessarily stupid of the aliens to invade a planet that is, as far as they're concerned, covered in acid. What was colossally stupid of them was invading it COMPLETELY NAKED! Never mind protective armor or hazmat suits; if they'd just had the foresight to equip their ground troops with simple raincoats, they probably would have succeeded.
Good point and one I have noticed with many alien invader type movies. Not only no protective gear, no decontamination units, or restoration tanks on their ships, medical .. Like they have all this technology to get themselves to another planet but don't have the smarts to think of possible potential problems to account for. Who's their project manager. Actually, in mission work of scientists or explorers, there is a type of mission that is called a: "Get In, Get Out" mission. I did some time in the military. These types of missions are solely to take readings of the environment and reading of your gear and craft. The first moonlanding is a prime example. As were the first deep sea missions. Hypothetical, it could be possible for aliens to do such a mission and then have humans act hostile, but theoretically, these missions have an abort protocol. The aliens should still have their own survival gear on and be taking readings, all the same.

Wait until Dark scared the sh*! out of me! It doesn't need any blood and guts! I saw it in the 70s and then again in the 2000s. It was equally frightening both times. Signs is watchable a couple of times also. Once you know the secret killer, it's not as earth shattering, but still worth a re-watch with an open mind about new theories.
If you're thinking of doing a third list, don't forget the ladies included in the films REVENGE and INTRUDERS. With INTRUDERS, a young woman stricken with agoraphobia gets preyed upon by home invaders who want to grab a cache of insurance money supposedly hidden in the house. They're not even close to being ready, however, for some of the house's other surprises. In REVENGE, when the arm-candy GF of a criminal is sexually assaulted by his associates, his solution to her distress is pushing her off the nearest cliff. In any other movie, that would be the end of things. But not only does she survive, but proves to be resourceful AND vengeful AF.

Seth Brundle was never a villain. An egotist and narcissist certainly but never a villain. His ultimate transformation was never intended to hurt anyone but it’s initial stages give him the energy and motivation to go beyond human and create a new hybrid. It’s a wholly tragic tale in which a simple oversight has huge ramifications yet we still see signs of humanity right up to when he’s shed his skin and subsequently fused with the telepod leaving him no choice but to hold the shotgun to his head and thus ask Veronica to pull the trigger and end his life. For Veronica it’s not the eyes of a villainous monster looking up at her despite his repulsive appearance but those of Seth Brundle, the man she loved and tried so desperately to save. In the end the only real victim of the film was Seth himself, a man so driven by success that he literally became a monster, albeit one that never lost its human heart …
He kidnapped her and tried to force her into a horrendous fusion with himself and her unborn baby. Then when someone shows up to save her, Seth melts two of his limbs off. That's kinda villainous behavior.

This is what I said, in reality the villain has always been Stathis, Ronnie's ex-boyfriend and Boss. He was the one that threatened to go public with Seth's secret Telepods because he was jealous of Seth's and Ronnie's relationship, this is even highlighted in THE FLY II when he tells Martin that his dad Seth "Stole his Girl, and then melted his hand and foot with fly vomit". Seth went a crazy because his mind was melding with the fly's mind whom was fused with him and erroneously thought that if he fused with Ronnie and their unborn child that they would become a sort of "superior being" 3 in one. But we know that this was delusional because his mind was twisted, but not evil, this was ALL STATHIS' fault because all he did was with evil intent and because of him all went to hell.

He was the one that caused all the bad stuff that led Seth to freak out and accidentally get fused with a Fly, because Seth didn't know that Ronnie ran to protect Seth from Stathis exposing Seth's Secret project. Stathis did save Ronnie, but he was the one that caused all the crap, and he still felt that he was right in the second film, blaming Seth for Ronnie's death and not taking any accountability for HIS action that led Seth to this tragedy. Ronnie and Seth were the victims of a sociopath manipulator and a seksual predator that never understood that things were over with Ronnie since before she hooked up with Seth.

For Signs, I prefer the fan theory that they're not aliens, but demons. The little girl really is an angel -- or at least divinely blessed -- and all the glasses of water are holy water, declared 'contaminated' by a little girl who doesn't know a better way to express 'this water isn't for drinking anymore' than that. That's why the Middle East (home of a BUNCH of Abrahamic faiths) first figured out how to beat them, why they seem to be targeting the 'sinner' manslaughter-veterinarian and the former priest, why they burn when 'mere' water touches them, why they seem more interested in tormenting people than actually getting at them, why their downfall within our main character's home was brought about via deathbed prophecy, etc.

was Shihoh really a villain of Fall? Sure she boinked her friend's ex, and sure the whole idea to climb the tower was ill conceived, but i didn't really see her as a villain. Ready or Not and Not-Margot Robbie was such a fun movie. Too bad Not-Margot robbie was killed off in S6, would've been fun to see her in the series.

She was not a villain of the movie in any means just because she banged her friend's boyfriend. She didn't do anything cruel in the movie itself, she didn't make them stuck on purpose, she didn't do anything to her friend for her own survival. She even risked her life to save them both and died

I always have to bring this up when Signs is discussed: it wasn't necessarily stupid of the aliens to invade a planet that is, as far as they're concerned, covered in acid. What was colossally stupid of them was invading it COMPLETELY NAKED! Never mind protective armor or hazmat suits; if they'd just had the foresight to equip their ground troops with simple raincoats, they probably would have succeeded.

Actually, in mission work of scientists or explorers, there is a type of mission that is called a:
"Get In, Get Out" mission.
I did some time in the military. These types of missions are solely to take readings of the environment and reading of your gear and craft.
The first moonlanding is a prime example. As were the first deep sea missions.
Hypothetical, it could be possible for aliens to do such a mission and then have humans act hostile, but theoretically, these missions have an abort protocol. The aliens should still have their own survival gear on and be taking readings, all the same.

I wish people would get over the alien/water thing in Signs. Everything about it is assumption, so here's another one; that they didn't know they had a weakness to water. Everyone is always assuming they knew, but maybe they didn't. Is that too much to fathom?

I always read the aliens in signs as desperate. They needed something from the Earth that they couldn't get elsewhere and were willing to risk it.
Wait until Dark scared the sh*! out of me! It doesn't need any blood and guts! I saw it in the 70s and then again in the 2000s. It was equally frightening both times. Signs is watchable a couple of times also. Once you know the secret killer, it's not as earth shattering, but still worth a re-watch with an open mind about new theories.
If you're thinking of doing a third list, don't forget the ladies included in the films REVENGE and INTRUDERS.
With INTRUDERS, a young woman stricken with agoraphobia gets preyed upon by home invaders who want to grab a cache of insurance money supposedly hidden in the house. They're not even close to being ready, however, for some of the house's other surprises.
In REVENGE, when the arm-candy GF of a criminal is sexually assaulted by his associates, his solution to her distress is pushing her off the nearest cliff. In any other movie, that would be the end of things. But not only does she survive, but proves to be resourceful AND vengeful AF.
You REALLY need to watch Frontier(s)......wow the French are only second to the Korean film makers when it comes to revenge type movies.

The water weakness in Signs is why the theory that they are not aliens but demons kinda works.
Except it doesn't. It's not like the pastor who utterly lost his faith when his wife died was going around blessing the glasses of water. It also makes little sense for demons to leave crop circles...or spray poison from their fingers.

Seth Brundle was never a villain. An egotist and narcissist certainly but never a villain. His ultimate transformation was never intended to hurt anyone but it’s initial stages give him the energy and motivation to go beyond human and create a new hybrid. It’s a wholly tragic tale in which a simple oversight has huge ramifications yet we still see signs of humanity right up to when he’s shed his skin and subsequently fused with the telepod leaving him no choice but to hold the shotgun to his head and thus ask Veronica to pull the trigger and end his life. For Veronica it’s not the eyes of a villainous monster looking up at her despite his repulsive appearance but those of Seth Brundle, the man she loved and tried so desperately to save. In the end the only real victim of the film was Seth himself, a man so driven by success that he literally became a monster, albeit one that never lost its human heart …
He kidnapped her and tried to force her into a horrendous fusion with himself and her unborn baby. Then when someone shows up to save her, Seth melts two of his limbs off. That's kinda villainous behavior.
@@Bluesit32 I still don’t see him as a traditional villain like others on this list. It was jealousy that ultimately turned him into a true monster but it was instinct that had taken over by the end. Yes, it’s not forgivable what he did but his demise was far more tragic than victorious as there was still a small part of the original Brundle inside that hulking mass of flesh and metal and Veronica knew that, hence her emotional goodbye to the man she loved.
This is what I said, in reality the villain has always been Stathis, Ronnie's ex-boyfriend and Boss. He was the one that threatened to go public with Seth's secret Telepods because he was jealous of Seth's and Ronnie's relationship, this is even highlighted in THE FLY II when he tells Martin that his dad Seth "Stole his Girl, and then melted his hand and foot with fly vomit". Seth went a crazy because his mind was melding with the fly's mind whom was fused with him and erroneously thought that if he fused with Ronnie and their unborn child that they would become a sort of "superior being" 3 in one. But we know that this was delusional because his mind was twisted, but not evil, this was ALL STATHIS' fault because all he did was with evil intent and because of him all went to hell.

@@Bluesit32 He tried to save Ronnie at the end yes, and when she freaked out after seeing Seth mutated and learned that she was pregnant prior, but there is no justification for Stathis. He was the one that caused all the bad stuff that led Seth to freak out and accidentally get fused with a Fly, because Seth didn't know that Ronnie ran to protect Seth from Stathis exposing Seth's Secret project.
Stathis did save Ronnie, but he was the one that caused all the crap, and he still felt that he was right in the second film, blaming Seth for Ronnie's death and not taking any accountability for HIS action that led Seth to this tragedy. Ronnie and Seth were the victims of a sociopath manipulator and a seksual predator that never understood that things were over with Ronnie since before she hooked up with Seth.

For Signs, I prefer the fan theory that they're not aliens, but demons. The little girl really is an angel -- or at least divinely blessed -- and all the glasses of water are holy water, declared 'contaminated' by a little girl who doesn't know a better way to express 'this water isn't for drinking anymore' than that. That's why the Middle East (home of a BUNCH of Abrahamic faiths) first figured out how to beat them, why they seem to be targeting the 'sinner' manslaughter-veterinarian and the former priest, why they burn when 'mere' water touches them, why they seem more interested in tormenting people than actually getting at them, why their downfall within our main character's home was brought about via deathbed prophecy, etc.
signs also brings to mind war of the worlds, where the bacteria and stuff on earth ended up being lethal to the aliens.
It’s fine to (rightly) pick on the stupid aliens of Signs for the lack of preparation or protective clothing (or in fact any aliens that stroll around nude on Earth, looking at you War of the Worlds martians), but let’s not forget the dopey humans that do the same (like in Alien Covenant, or any other movie/show) where they decide an oxygenated atmosphere means they can immediately take their helmets off

Willy’s Wonderland is a generally brilliant film.
The "nuclear b*mb" line is really not appropriate considering what's going on in the world right now. It's really in bad taste to begin with but even worse when there are literal wars going on that could include such weapons. I guess I'm just too "old" for the "gritty" humor of the line.
Seth Brundle was NOT a villain, he was tragically and accidentally mutated, and went a bit deranged because his mind was melding with the mind of a Fly. His insanity made him believe that by fusing with his pregnant girlfriend Ronnie would make them better than before. He didn't kill for pleasure or with evil intent, he was a molecular half insect that was defending his territory. The real Villain was Stathis, Ronnie's ex-boyfriend and boss, had he not threatened Ronnie to go public with Seth's SECRET experimental telepods experiment because he was jealous of Seth and Ronnie's relationship, then Seth would had never gotten drunk and had the accident of being fused with a Fly.
In ready or not, de lumas was killed because that old woman tried to axe the day after, she broke the rules
