  • Building a small set of casement windows for a client and caught this moment where I’m overlapping the two sashes in the middle with an overlap. It’s simple, not easy.

That stile has a huge check in it. Is there something you need to do to treat it to stop
it from spreading or trapping moisture?

It's an Internet Felony that you don't have more subscribers.
Do you have any content regarding designing and crafting triple hung windows? (Is it as simple as "just" stacking another sash with its pulley and counterweights or are there greater concerns when going beyond a double hung window?)
...maybe a way to ask my question abstractly would be to ask what the differences would be between a double hung window, a triple hung window, and a hypothetical quadruple hung window.
Triple hung windows intimidate me and I know it is due to the shear complexity involved in getting one to a testable state to find out that I royally screwed something up.

Astragal, it doesn’t cost anything to learn the terminology. The client will trust you more if you speak confidently, like an expert.

Ok you got me. I’ve been successfully making Astragals in casement sash for decades for clients who trust me without my knowing the technical term. I suppose now they’ll trust me more.

@@WoodWindowMakeover I’m not trying to be a dick man, I know that came off condescending and I’m sorry. Wood Windows and doors are a relic from a bygone era of extremely skilled craftsmen. Most people that hire a craftsman are just as excited about having that elevated experience as they are the finished product, and they’re paying considerably more because of it. I make it a point to explain in as much detail as a the homeowner can tolerate what is going on. Not only does this get me more jobs, but it establishes me as an expert in my craft and allows me to charge the prices I need to charge to do the work the right way and take my time. Obviously I have some bias and pet peeves. I’m in the same industry and it’s important to me that myself, and my guys present ourselves more skilled, well spoken and professionally than the guy selling cut flange vinyl retros. Love your channel bro, keep doing your thing so us keyboard know it alls can have something to keep our gears turning.

@@TheSeriesofTubes alright man you are off the hook. I understand where you are coming from now and I’m in alignment with you as to presenting ourselves two or three notches above our “competition” which isn’t really competition. The way I present it to my people is that they actually have to achieve a higher level of skill than their contemporaries and then actually believe in themselves, realizing their own caliber. I started off well over 20 years ago calling myself “carpenter” but quickly dropped that and assumed for myself the title “craftsman.” My first yard sign after that transition labeled me as Stephen M. Quillian - Craftsman and from that I named my parent company Quillian Craftsman. Wood Window Makeover is actually a DBA underneath that. But anymore I don’t even call myself a craftsman anymore, rather I refer to myself as an Artisan and distinguish myself from so many out there that I consider mere mercenaries.

@TheSeriesofTubes Tact! It costs nothing to learn and will bring an unmeasureable return. To spell it out for a pedestrian such as yourself...don't be a precocious prick. Until you start posting videos of your precious Astragal, or anything for that matter, perhaps you should keep your baby-soft fingers off the keyboard and just sit back, relax, and enjoy this gentlemans generosity. At the very most hit the thumbs up.
