  • The team member working the sash needs to be able to strip, sand, prime and reglaze a one lite sash in under 2 hours. How is this possible?
Part of the secret is to combine the Paint Shaver, ProScraper and orbital sander as part of your strategy.
Admittedly, the glass is not always as easy to get out as it was in this video, but regardless, when you’re able to strip the flats in eight minutes, you bought yourself enough time to get that glass out and still have time to heat on the profiles, prime and reglaze that sash.

When a team member can reglaze a sash in two hours, that’s four a day. And that’s the metric. You have to hit to be able to completely restore one window a day and if you can restore one a day, your team can make money.

My one reservation about using the paint shaver is that it seems to shoot dust and paint chips everywhere, despite the vacuum connection. I wouldn’t care if I were in a big shop but since I work out of my basement, I have to be conscious about keeping things somewhat clean

Welcome back! I missed your videos.
Can you share more about the paint shaver. It looks like a nice tool.

Thanks. Glad to be back. The Paint Shaver takes some reps to master. But once you get the hang of it you never go back.

Steambox is a very important tool. For us it’s especially helpful with glass that’s been caulked in. I like to strip the flats first, then stick it in.

That was great. Thanks for putting this up. Is there more detail work to be done on that sash before glazing and painting or are you pretty close to being done on it?

I would be nervous about gouging the window with that tool. is that a concern?

Absolutely. This tool in the wrong hands can ruin a lot of work really fast. Takes practice on unimportant things

@@WoodWindowMakeoverI’ve been using it to strip my siding…the house literally tells the story of my experience with the tool. The first boards I ever did with it, well, they have character. But where I’ve used it more recently you can’t even tell.

That looks great for flats but all my uppers have muntin bars and all the insides have molding detail near the glass

Excellent video, thank you for posting? Would steam help in any of this process?

It looked like you're going to slice your wrist with that chisel. I think I would mount a board to the table to press against

The bigger concern is no mask and lead paint.

Sometimes we wear masks, sometimes we don’t. Safety glasses - ok. You got me there.

@@WoodWindowMakeover- I was told by my doctor that I should not worry about lead poisoning unless I eat the paint or don’t wash my hands for few days straight.
There are other things to worry about.
CZcams is full of Safety Sallies and Keyboard Worriers that never had any tools in their hands but wants to run your operation.
