you just finally put the cap on a dilemma I've been struggling with for WEEKS
Terry - thank you!
So which one you going with?
Great comparison, Terry! This is is one of the more helpful comparison videos i have seen: knowledgeable and a great mix of specs and use-cases. Thank you!.Subbed!
Glad to hear this was helpful man! Thanks
Dude, this review was the most helpful out of 10+ reviews I’ve watched so far comparing these two lenses! I’ve been leaning toward getting the 24mm f1.4, but so many reviews felt like they were pushing me to save $500 because the difference is almost nothing..... but you showed me that the difference is huge on the 1.4 vs 1.8! I’m done deciding now. Getting the 24mm thanks to you!
Amazing to hear that!! There is an affiliate link in the description if you could be so kind as to use it! Im glad this was helpful man
Your channel popped up for the first time for me. Really useful comparison! I like the 24mm for environmental stills portraits for all the reasons you mentioned liking it for vlogging. Thanks!
🔥 video. I could watch lens reviews all day. Just added 2 lenses to my kit from eBay this weekend! Thanks for the content.
Nice! What did you grab?
TerryWarfield added some zooms for my a6600 to go w/ my 2 primes. Had to sell some stuff, but I added a Sony 18-105 f4 for all around, & sigma 100-400 w/ mc-11 for moon and wildlife.
Exactly the video I was looking for, thank you.
What up yall! Who #UPINHERE? Hope y’all enjoy this comparison! I try to keep things fun and simple instead of spec driven so I hope y’all like! Please remember to like and comment!

Do you think the GM is worth $500 more...?
It's good to *finally* see someone do real-world side-by-side comparisons of the field-of-view look (especially like at 04:24) to illustrate the differences between these two lenses. Thanks for the great content! One tip: with AF tests, moving side-to-side is just testing the AF tracking, not the focus motor. Try running at the camera or away from it to really see if the motors can keep up! :-)
Great video and review, exactly what I was looking for
Glad to hear that!
Nice comparison man! Thx!
Great content dude thanks for sharing this
Thanks mate for the comparison review - helped me to make my decision and went for your way...got the 24mm G-Master!
Very well done bro, fantastic that you tested the auto focus, aswell as the examples. Maybe you can do a video of how it functions on the Aps-c cameras for some of us that have both full and crop sensor Sony’s. 👌🏾👌🏾👌🏾
Good review, mate, thanks!
A truly excellent review that provided the best comparison I’ve yet seen between these lenses. The video has been extremely helpful. I have the GM lens, but wondered about the 20mm. Both have their great features as you’ve said. Thanks.
one of the best reviews I've seen on CZcams, because you got right to it no bs. You got a new subscriber keep up the great content looking forward to more.
Amazing video! Thank you! Ended up getting the 20mm, I love the wider landscape shots and there's minimal difference when I do astrophotography. :)
I’ve used the 20mm a lot for video on the S3. The extra 4mm you get is nice to make up for the crop from active stabilization.
In my opinion this is the best comparison of these two lenses on CZcams 👏🙏 Thank you!
Hey man, love your content. This video is exactly what I was looking for! Thank you!
Perfect review! Just purchased the 20mm, thank you! 👍
What a great comparison! I also found the 24mm look while blogging to be more appealing.
Amazing comparison. Thanks so much. Only that during the footage of comparing the AF I was confused about why the 24mm had a wider fov than 20mm, at least it seemed so!
This is a fantastic review you put up here mate. i really love your approach on the focus test. You did a great job and im definitely subscribing. love your content.
I don't subscribe often, but when you did the focus test... Dude... Laughed out loud and subscribed. Great stuff. Give zero fs what anyone thinks. Gotta get the truth out there.
Thank you.
Really really through review, thanks so much Terry!
thanks for watching!
Great video, I wonder what the person walking behind you during the af test was thinking lol
Love it! Thanks
Very helpful. Thanks.
Up in here!
Solid comparison! 🔥
Thanks my guy!
@@TerryWarfield yezzr!
Hey Terry, awesome video. I just bought the a7c today to go with my a7siii and zv-1, trying to decide which lens - the 20 G or the 24 GM.
good informative video! I don't see enough difference in the wooded background bokeh to justify the extra weight and expense of the 24mm, but the angle of view is different and a matter of taste too. thanks for the comparison!
Very good review and comparison!
thanks so much!
You are cool dude. Thanks for the reviews!
Superb mate !!!
I have the 24mm GM lens and have the 20 in the basket but with my new A7C I need to work out how to set AF properly lol
Love your videos!
An other excellent video. Plus it’s partly freaking hilarious the way you talk and present.. great personality! Suggestion: bring part 2 of 20 vs 24 but focus more on pictures captured with both lenses!! Show the composition capabilities and characteristics.
Bonus tip: we need affiliate links for the clothing brand you are rocking! I’m a similar build and wonder what’s the brand lol
Man I just wanted to say I know NOTHING about cameras and I’m trying to get a dope setup for my guitar playing/lesson videos. I bought the ZVE-1 because of you and now I’m getting the 24mm after being unsure about what to get. Just wanna say THANKS! You make it easy for a noob like me to make a decision. I subscribed!
Fantastic review
Great video. Thank you
Great video... that's how you review lens. I'm going with the 24mm. Thank you.
loved this, subbed.
Glad to have you on the squad!!
Great video. Much love from southafrica
Awesome video!
Thanks. Surprisingly there's not much videps comparing the vlogging look the way you did that. Personally I'm going for the 24mm as well. The wider focal length doesn't seem to make too much of a difference, but the better bokeh is definitely noticable. And the extra stops I'll get in low light makes it a winner
pretty fresh test :)
I have to agree.. i prefer the 24mm look for vlog. Im here to listen to your content.. not be distracted by stuff in the bkground.. IMHO. Good info. Thanks.
Nice review 👍
What up Kev! Thanks for watching
love the video! I can't decide between 24mm to 20mm. My short arms vs beautiful bokeh
I love the quality of your videos. Im thinking of the 20 mm. I might cheap out and get the 11 mm, but I don’t really want to use APSC on full frame.
Great video and comparison. I don't shoot video and prefer that crazy wide, almost awkward visual that 20mm brings to landscape or city photography. It uplifts a photograph into artwork. That's why I chose the 20mm.
Super review. Thank you. Now having a 16-35 2.8 GM. Do you think it’s a good idea getting the 20 1.8? What about images quality from these both?
Extremely helpful!
I'm glad it helped!!
Dope video,!! I love my 24mm, I do street photography!! And this lens does everything for me!! I use it with my a7riii and image quality is very sharp!!
Thanks for this video. I'm just thinking about to buys one of these lenses (mainly for landscapes and traveling). I think the 20mm is not bad, a good working tool, but in my eyes it doesn't have this magical look of the 24mm 1.4. Greetings from your new channel memeber from Germany :)
Nice review! Got me a 24mm GM! Was trying to decide between 24 GM or the 24 Sigma art.
I have 20 2.8 from Tamron but haven’t got a chance to use it yet. Traveling next month and I am going to bring my tamron 20 and 24 GM. Excited!
What did u think of the tamron?
Great review Terry.
What sony lens would you recommend for video to shoot stationary cars, the interior and exterior and some nice slow motion? Which lens would do all that?
Great video!
Thank you for watching bro!
Fresh and flawless review
Great work on the review man. I love my 24mm GM.
Thanks for watching man! And same. I'll never get rid of my 24, even tho the 20 is killer!
Having seen this video saves me a grand+ as I have the best of both focal lengths with the Tamron 17-28 f2.8. Although I'd love to have either one I don't see a significant improvement that justifies an upgrade. Although probably great for photo, the building in the background showed a lot of focus breathing on the 24.
Top Notch Content homie. That 20mm might be the one
Awesome Video I just got the lense used from B& H for 1000$ and pre ordered the AS73!
Yooo this was everything I could ask for in a direct lens comparison. There are a ton of lens reviews out there but this video was thorough yet to the point - and entertaining. Helped me decide to keep my 20mm and stop dreaming about owning the 24mm as well😂 Subbed for more!
Thank you! ❤
Best comparaison so far . Thx. Looking to pick one of those to cover night wedding ceremony on gimbal. What would you choose if you only have to pick one for the night event??
Shout-out from Macedonia, OH - These two are my favorites (with the 30mm f/1.8 completing the trinity), but the 24GM is my all-time - just finished my first documentary almost entirely on the 24GM - f/1.4 makes it so versatile.
New viewer... love your work and approach. Im in. Thanks TW.
Great review! Bought the 24 right before the 20 came out too haha.
Man it was such a hard decision but I'm glad I kept it
Thank you man !!!!
Thank you for this video
Enjoying your videos.
Great vid... I’m torn between the 35mm 24mm and 20mm... I think 24mm is the best of both when you put it in crop mode
Exactly why I decided to keep mine!
thank you so much!
Thank you 😊
It’s a tough call man. Sony sent me the 24mm to use for a bit, and I fell in love with it. That being said, the 20mm would be a bit better for my vlogging content 🤔
i cant stand the chromatic aberrations on 24mm gm thats why im selling it and getting the 20mm instead
My first visit in your channel and I have to say that I am impressed! I HATE how most people these days try to make you sit through a vLog before they get to the review! You got straight to business and I appreciate that! I cover race cars, vLog and I do tutorials but NEVER mix a vLog into a non vLog! Everyone is trying to be Casey Neistat 🤦♂️. Casey is the man but there is only one Casey! You have a great personality- glad to see you being you! Subbed! Keep up the good work!
Haha thanks man! I appreciate that! I don’t try to be anyone else!
Great comparison. the AF test I think the 20mm won. I take more astrophotography shots than anything else and have decided on the 20mm to buy, but will be going for the 24mm GM early next year as well.
NIce review and thanks for this. Conundrum of can't go wrong with either one. For me I'll take the 20mm and the big $ savings. But wow that bokeh of the 1.4 is pretty amazing too.
Hi! very nice video!
What do you think about distortion in portraits compared to the 24mm GM? Can I get the same result by cropping a photo taken with the 20mm to reach 24 than taking it with the 24? Will there be any difference in perspective and distortion in the case of cropping? Thanks
Dude, to be honest, the hell with the review. Best shape fella on utube !!!
Got a Sub on this one brother. I've been crunching hard on which of these to get, think I'm going with the 20mm as it will be more useful in my kit. I LoL'd at the "STOP! in the name of love" haha!
great video. I can't decide which to get.
What are you torn on?
@@TerryWarfield so I went back and forth back and forth. After everything, what pushed me over the edge was the 1.4 of the 24mm. The coating of the glass and how the bokeh in the background looked. I appreciate your af test the most too. Pulled the trigger ordered one. It arrives today. Looking forward to using it for work on Friday. We’ll see what happens!
The 1.4 when doing the side by side looks crazy more blurry than the 1.8 haha its nuts!!! Thanks for this video !!!
Solid review! Not a Sony owner but I appreciate your work
I'm late to the game subscribing to ya, but I'm here now and will be watching more of your videos.
Fantastic review, my dude. Specifically what I was looking for. Also, sub’d.
Excellent job sir! Thank you Sony for supporting him with this video.
Awesome video
Thanks Andrew!
I just got the 20mm today and yours is the only review that covered the topic I was most interested in. I like the lens, but I was surprised by lens elements moving around in the casing. I wasn't sure if this was a defect, so glad you addressed that. Lens is wicked sharp and is the fastest auto focusing lens I have used to date. Thanks.
do you still like your lens?
@@N0va Absolutely.
@@arize84 Was debating on which one to buy today. Leaning 20mm too :) thanks for the quick response
@@N0va You will not regret it. It is super sharp, focuses fast, and has beautiful wide open bokeh.
@@arize84 I just got it. incredible. really happy with my decision!
NICE. I kinda want to hear you sing the whole song now. I think the 24mm really out shines the 20mm in Astrophotography but other than that I don't see there is that big of a difference image quality wise
Hi. What makes the 24 mm better for Astro?
Great comparison and review! Have you ever tried the 28mm F2.0? I feel like if one is on a budget and for the money it’s a great vlogging/video lens alternative to these.
Yeah. Man that lens is killer for the money! A little too narrow for me for vlogging tho
TerryWarfield yeah true probably not that comfortable to vlog 😄 the 24mm really is ideal and the best of the best for all it does.
The 28mm has much higher distortion than these other two.
Thanks!
Your video helped me decide. 20mm f1.8 is winner for me. Thanks man, awesome review!
Would you recommend either of these lenses for basketball highlights?
Just got the 20mm, primarily because of focal length
20mm pairing it with a7r3 you van crop in.. plus that wide angle at 20 damn.. you can always crop in but you cannot crop out.
I called it that you'd like the 24mm more back in your first review ;).
Hahaha yeah you did
love this guy. a real person
Thanks man! I'm glad to hear that. I try to keep things "real" and not the same ol spec driven regurgitated content. I appreciate you!
I really would like to have both lenses :-) They look simular but have so much differences, I couldn't decide whichone is the best for me.
Yes bro life saver! Needed this video ha
Oh you found it haha
TerryWarfield yeah bro nailed it! I went 24mm man. Just felt that 24mm has a look about it that is super nice even though the 20mm imho looks a little cleaner just looks a little standard!
