    Liked the way you approached and edited this video. Nice delivery and great content. I've had this lens for a short while now and absolutely love it. Often use it manually. • @TheCreatorsBlock
      @TheCreatorsBlock Před 3 lety +2

      Thank you 😊
      I’ve only tried the 28-75 to be fair, but I believe they are very similar lenses just different focal lengths. And my experience with the 28-75 wasn’t terrible or anything, I just didn’t like it, it felt cheap, it was a bit ugly, I wasn’t confident in the build quality and the 28mm focal length was too tight, I needed a 24 to something.
      If I had the Tamron 28-75 though, I’d probably consider the 17-28 due to not having the 24mm. But I like the 24-70 range and that’s my main lens so the 20mm for me just compliments it better. Like I say, everyone is different and has different needs.
      Ah Yeh I should put that in the description thanks! It’s the Mavic 2 Pro. Still very new to drones, I get wet palms every time I fly it 😂

      Ah well yeh that is a little different to myself. I really like having the 24mm available on my mid zoom lens. So something like a 17-28 or a 16-35 I’m not too concerned by. But because you don’t have the 24mm covered, the 17-28 makes a bit more sense for you. But then 17-28 isn’t much of a range to be honest.
      It’s whether you want the f1.8? You could still use crop mode with the 20mm to punch in a bit.
      It’s tricky and I probably wasn’t much help 😂

      @TheCreatorsBlock Před rokem +1

      Thank you!
      I guess it depends what you're shooting to be honest. I personally don't need to go any wider than 20mm. However the new Sony 16-35 f4 G Lens looks pretty good! Nice and light with some great video features, but only f4 of course.
      Other than that I would probably wait a bit as I'm sure Sony will be releasing a MK2 16-35 2.8 soon, but that probably won't be very compact.
      It is difficult to find a lens that is small, fairly priced and decent quality below 20mm. That's why I love this lens so much I guess!

    • @TheCreatorsBlock
      @TheCreatorsBlock Před 2 lety

      Hi mate! It all really depends on what you shoot and what your preferred style is. Personally I cannot live without my 24-70 f2.8. It’s my main lens and I take it everywhere. If I could get the GMii I would but I’m happy with the Sigma for now. The 20mm sits outside of that as it is a fair bit wider than 24mm and it’s such a small, light lens that’s great for vlogging, or as a general walk around.
      I’ve never used the 55 so I can’t say if it’s worth hanging on to or selling I’m afraid, only you can answer that. But my opinion is the 55mm focal length doesn’t really appeal to me as a designated lens. Within the 24-70 at f2.8 is fine for me. Now an 85 f1.8 or 1.4 is another story.
      So yeh sorry if it’s a bit vague, but I hope it helps a bit!

    Question for you. I'm considering this lens vs the 16-35 f4 Sony. I mainly vlog, and do so while carrying the camera. In you footage you did with the 20mm at your workstation, how far was the lens from your face? Trying to get an idea of how far I need to hold the camera out to get that angle. Thanks, and great video!

    • @TheCreatorsBlock
      @TheCreatorsBlock Před 2 lety +1

      Thanks for watching! Yes that’s a tough choice. The new Sony 16-35 f4 wasn’t out when I made this video and would have been a big contender. It’s more flexible in terms of focal lengths, but the 20mm would be better for low light and allow for a blurrier background at f1.8.
      In my studio the camera was only a foot or two from my face, it’s surprising closer than it looks. You can easily clog with it but obviously 16mm is still that bit wider. It’s all about compromise 😂 There’s never a clear winner!
      I hope this helps and enjoy whichever lens you decide 😊

      As a first lens I’m not sure. It depends what tou shoot. It’s a fantastic lens but if you’re just starting out or if it will be your only lens then it may be limiting only being 20mm. But if that’s something you would be fine with until you save for a second lens then yes. But maybe try and roadmap your lens wish list first and try and buy a lens you will keep. Not just go with something for the time being.
      I hope that helps.

    • @Donbros
      @Donbros Před 2 lety

      @@TheCreatorsBlock okay, thanks for suggestion! Yeah I am also thinking about that roadmap, but the ones I want are out of my budget (16-35 gm and tamron 35-150 probably if optics is good and then some light one for casual so probably this is the one I could buy right now, since light ones almost all under 1k). Samyang 24mm 1.8 looks tempting because I still have like 500 to start saving up for gm, but not sure if I will use samyang later after getting gm even though its light... lol, but that is one of the best placeholders ngl. And then this sony 20g but having this may overlap too much with gm, just one stop difference and both super good at 20 mm

    Is this lens good for video with the a7iii?

    • @TheCreatorsBlock
      @TheCreatorsBlock Před 3 lety +1

      I would say it would be great for video for the a7iii mainly because you have the ability to not only shoot wide at 20mm but you can punch in using Crop Mode to 30mm. So it’s kind of like a 16-35 but with a 1.8 aperture at the 20mm end.
      Only thing to think about is your IBIS, there isn’t any in the lens so if that’s an issue for you then the only other one I know that has IBIS in the lens at this focal length is the 16-35 f4. But then it’s an f4 and you don’t get all the cool benefits of the 1.8.
      It’s a hard choice. You just have to weigh up your needs and wants and see which lens give the best compromise. That’s the key word, compromise, because there are pros and cons for all lenses.
      I bought this lens primarily for video for the a7siii which does have the Active Stabe, but I can’t use the crop mode like you could.
      But for AF and image quality it’s remarkable and will be really nice for video.

    I like 20mm focal length but as a landscape shooter i replaced my Sony 20 1.8 with a Voigtlader 21 F1.4 and never look back. The Voigtlander offers much much smoother manual focus operation which is what I do 99.9% of the time in landscape, It's also sharper with much better built quality .

      Great stuff! I’d be interested in seeing some of your work 😊
      That’s the beauty of photography and video, everyone has their niche and everyone works differently. It’s whatever tool best suits your needs. Because I’m very into video and doing this sort of CZcams video, having great autofocus is important for me.

    Thanks for sharing your thoughts, but the jump cuts you keep doing are horrendous. It literally hurt my eyes

    What presumptuous concept to do influencer videos. In reality I'm (truely) jealous to not have that courage(!) to do videos (for instance a serie "the five reasons why I bought each of my (carefully selected) lenses. Hmm..a challange to overcome scrupules?)

    Nice Video Bro, but the focus breathing at 2:05 is too obvious. I will pass on this Lens.

      Yes focus breathing is it’s downside but it’s fine for me. Can understand why it might be a dealbreaker though. Would love to know what you go for instead.

      @@TheCreatorsBlock I think as long your not making focus pulling should be fine.

    Yet another shit talking head. 20mm is not about closeups, at all! Try to use it in crop mode. Btw if you shoot video, active stabilisation crops, and if you use it in aps-c mode you can get near 35mm focal length and near 24 in FF. It is the reason to consider. And focus breathing compensation also crops. So if you shoot video it is better to have a little bit wider

    Sorry I had to stop watching. Couldn't handle the jerky edits in between every few words. You can't say two sentences without cutting and slicing?

      It’s a good job there are plenty more videos on YT for you to find useful. Sorry mine wasn’t to your taste.
