@@firstsoldier4257 i am currently selling my Batis 25mm because i just got a good deal on secondhand 24mm 1.4 GM . 25mm Batis is a good lens, lightweight, compact, best for travel. No autofocus issue, f/2 is large enough.

The Tamron is super sharp and offers more framing opportunities and is in roughly the same price range as this new lens . I am not interested in the Tamron prime, at all so a comparison between the zoom and the new Sony 20 mm for IQ and ultimate value for $$ is just what I am looking for......
Definitely not a pointless comparison. I have the 24 GM and the Tamron 17-28 and as much as I love both, especially the GM, I would be interested in dumping both for the 20 1.8 because it’s both wider and smaller and lighter than the 24. The Tamron 20 is already not in the running due to the IQ.
I see similar results with the Sigma 16mm 1.4, of course the quality might be slightly inferior on that one compared with the 20mm, but do you think this new 20mm is worth it?

I've come to appreciate your channel more and more. I know I'll get quality info with PLENTY of sample images thrown in. That's what it it's all about for me, I want to see what the lens can do! Seems like this lens really hits a sweet spot of price and performance. I would love to see Sony be way more consistent in the quality and pricing of their lenses, especially their older lenses that never get any significant price drops. I always had this question. Why does the retail copy of a lens or camera different from press release or review units sent out? Shouldn’t they be same to give accurate results and reliable reviews every time from the time they launch to time when consumers holds the unit for the first time. Any views on this Jason?

Any chance you can compare the Sony 20mm 1.8 prime with the Zeiss Batis 18mm lens? Have watched both your videos on these individually but still can't make up mind which one to buy? Great videos by the way!!!!
Would like to see a comparison with the Zeiss 18mm and 25mm as well as the 24mm GM and the 28 FE F2. Both for stills and video. Have had very nice results with the 28mm FE for video. I would assume that the Zeis ones are not so good for video when using AF.
The 20mm F1.8 seems great, that's cool that appatently the autofocus doesn't hunt even at F1.8! 👍 But beacuse the 24mm doesn't distort the image as much I'd probably prefer that, but I guess it's about personal preferance anyway! 🙂

I am looking for the best lens for shooting castles, cathedrals and general architecture with a Sony A7R4. I am trying to decide between the Laowa 15mm f/2, Zeiss 18mm f/2.8, Sony 20mm f/1.8 and the 24mm f/1.4.
I can't get exited over a 20mm. if it was a 16mm or something wide enough for small interiors I might be interested. Since I'm already using the 12-24 G, I'm probably gonna be more interested in the GM version and whether they fixed the distortion problems or not
I had the 24mm for about 3 was and truly loved it. I saw your video on the 20mm, shipped back the 24 and preordered the 20mm which arrived today. Can’t wait to test it out when the rain stops. I love the focal length, wide angle and light weight. Please do a comparison between the 20 & 24mm
There was already a 24mm lens. So 20 seems quite close. It would have been better if they had done wider prime lenses like 16mm or 18mm instead of 20. But it’s okay. Hope they bring a prime lens in the range of 16mm soon.
Jason, hope all is well with you and V. I've been considering buying the 24GM, but now, eagerly look forward to your comparison. The 20mm is wider, smaller, lighter and cheaper. As long as distortion is acceptable, I should go for the 20mm. The GM is 2/3 of a stop faster, but it doesn't really matter for me, as I mainly use it for landscape and indoor group shots.... in a sense, wider DoF should serve me better. BTW, the boys keep asking where is Jason gor gor:)
How about comparing it with the recent tamron 20mm, though it goes to 2.8, but the overall results, price factor and built quality and size when ot comes to shoot videos through gimbals
