just use marking tape with a permanent marker (or masking tape if the weather is going to be good) and write the measurement directly on you stake, flag, stick, etc. that way the as measured mark is at the location point, this is useful if you are trying to straighten out your swale or base your swale on something other than the natural grade of the land.

I’m not sure I follow you 100%, but yes, there are several ways to accomplish this task. This one of the simplest I have found.

could you perhaps see the laser level on a cloudy days, giving you more time to set more poles and contour lines? lovely video anyway, tnx

Possibly, but it would be hard to see. I may pull the laser level out on a cloudy day and try it just to see though.

My personal homestead is 1.5 acres, that I am only scratching the surface on, but I also have access to on another 6 acres.

@@thehomesteadconsultant I have 35 acres of almonds on 39 total acres in CA. I wish I was as energized and young as you. I believe I could do such a much better job than I do now.

@@pauljensen4773 that sounds like a pretty neat place. There is a lot you can do with minimal input, but what you take on always needs to fit your goals. In my case, I have kept my personal homestead fairly simple so that my wife and daughters can maintain it if I'm not around. I only have chickens, rabbits, orchards and a garden.

@@thehomesteadconsultant Yes you are set up very different from me. I had children but now they are out, and I'm divorced and living alone. So, I don't have a backup team like you. It changes the strategy.
