  • Today we durability test and take apart the new CMF Phone 1. A new budget device from the company Nothing. The CMF Phone 1 has user replaceable backs and a few accessories that can be screwed into the rear frame. So if you want to change the color of your phone on a moments notice - you can. However - thats where the modular ability stops. None of the internal components can be swapped out. The battery replacement and parts replacements still need to be 'done by a professional'.

It isn't tho....for them. The removable back is simply for you to buy accessories and back panels. You replacing your battery was never a part of the equation, just for you to buy shit from them. If they could sell you those individual batteries, without any Chinese manufacturers getting in on the action, then they'd do it.

But that means less profit in the future by making you buy a new phone when your battery stops lasting as long as before, so they hit two birds with one stone. Sell you a new device so then they can keep up with planned obsolescence.

This phone uses a subpar camera for the price range, a subpar chip for the price range, but has really good design and software so nothing for sure doesn't have the same margin as a 200 dollars Xiaomi/Samsung/Motorola/Oppo group phone just because they have for sure a smaller line and they clearly invested in design+ecosystem but no they are not losing money they build a pretty average phone for the price with some compromises to allow the fun gimmick.
