Schefflera Umbrella Tree Houseplant Care Tips and Propagation

- Struggling to think of what to buy a friend or a loved one for the holidays? Why not get an umbrella tree plant?! They are pretty common to find and SUPER easy to take care of. Not only that, but it's the gift that keeps on giving since it's so easy to propagate. They are also super affordable!
When you do find one, carefully inspect the plant for any pests that might be on the plant. You can always just give the plant a good wash when you get home to get rid of them. I've straight up sprayed rubbing alcohol on the leaves and it doesn't harm the plant (all that much) - it's a strong one. Just keep them quarantined from the other botanibabies until it gets over its botanical venereal disease.
These would also do great in an office to soak up and cleanse all the hot air that come out of corporate schmucks. Give one to your boss!

This plant is very easy to care for. To say you cannot over water it not true though. Over watering also attracts insects such as fungus gnats. My experience is that it needs the same watering as other houseplants and that is to water when the growing medium is almost dry. I have followed the same routine for years and my verigated one is very healthy , visually very attractive, and large. The plant was bought for a mere 5p from a uk shop called Wilko whose staff had been over watering. With care, lost leaves even returned. Most internet sources say that is not possible with this plant. Well, I know that is simply not true.
Thanks for the advice, Dinesh! You are absolutely right in that it is definitely possible to over water it. Me saying that in the video was just me using sarcasm to stress that even if you go overboard in the watering here and there, it is not as detrimental as it would be compared to, say, a succulent :).
Varigated type of dwarf Schefflera is called Trinette. Just stick cuttings in soil, they root easily.

Isn't the root system amazing? I think that's why this plant is so great and is one that is not prone to diseases. It's very forgiving! Like I mentioned in another comment, be sure to take off some of the petioles at the bottom of the plant every couple months (no more than 20% of the petioles on each main stem) so that it encourages the plant to grow taller if you are trying to grow it into a tree :). You are wonderful. I have an umbrella tree that I've had a few years now. It's been repotted 4 times and is growing like crazy. I've been wanting to propagate the plant but am always afraid of killing it. You have put my mind at ease so I'm going to give it a try. I think I need a larger pot and want my plant to be fuller so wish me luck. Oh, I do love your jammies!!
I am so happy to hear that, Yvonne! This is a really strong plant, I promise it will regrow :)! You're going to have so many new plants after you start propagating lol. Also, it takes a REALLY long time, especially if the stem you are clipping it from is mature (will be woody/hard, not pliable). However, once it starts to root, it will be strong!

I'm so glad I watched this!!!! We have a gigantic one at work. Like too big, like a dang tree! It's falling over and we've tried to tell the company that we rent it from that it's falling over but they don't do anything! Anyway, we snipped a few branches and I've had it in water for 3 weeks and I kept wondering if roots would ever start growing. Now I have a few tiny ones and I'm so glad I watched this so I know to be patient and WAIT for those roots to grow 2 inches - Not plant it when the roots are small!
That is awesome, you're getting free plants! Yes, patience is definitely key. It may take several months, especially with cuttings that are woody.

Hi Nohemy! 10 years is fantastic - you are a better plant parent than you think :)! Will definitely consider remaking the video. It gets a bit tough when cutting into the woody stems, but then again I was using regular scissors rather than gardening shears lol...

You have an amazing Schefflera tree. I have a Schefflera that is over 12 years old and it is about 3 feet tall and at least 2 feet wide, and I have it tied up or it would be everywhere. I haven't tried propagating it. I also have a smaller one as well probably about 3 years old, I also acquired a variegated Schefflera about 1 year ago, it is just the cutest plant, a slower grower. Thanks for all of the great info and care tips it's very helpful information that I never really knew about. I just put them near a sunny location and they seem pretty happy. I think that the star on the top of the Schefflera is a cute touch, Lol!
Thank you Holly! One thing I forgot to mention in the video is that I took off petioles at the bottom of the plant to encourage it to grow taller. That is how I got mine to reach the ceiling a few times now. I would highly recommend pruning yours so that it will grow taller. I used to cut off whole stems and just threw them away (without even thinking to propagate it). Can't wait until I get ahold of a variegated one :)!! Have a wonderful week and see you next week!!

Mine is behind my east window and is getting direct sunlight from around 7am to 12 -1 pm and is super healthy and I also use a stick and rotate the plant all the time to make it grow straight

I have just repotted my Schefflera and love it. Mine is not real tall but it is very busy. I also have a varigated one that I just potted it in the same pot as my other one. Just bought a mini schefflera..
Nice!! I've always wanted a variegated one, it's so pretty. When I was still shopping around for plants, I couldn't find one that looked healthy - I always found ones that looked like they were forgotten in the corner of the nursery for several months lol. Good luck with your plant babies!
Have had mine's for about 6 month's have not seen any new babies however I have pinched them and now those new areas have new growth both of them are doing very very well also they are outside during the summer with in direct bright sunlight also whenever I water I have been using Organic fertilizer and using it very very tightly also watering both plants every other week thanks for a very informative video

Lol as long as you didn’t cut off more than a third of the plant, it should be fine 🤓. Good luck! It takes a really long time for the cuttings to root.
i watched this video three months ago to learn how to propagate my umbrella tree and it took, no joke, THREE whole months to sprout it’s roots! but it sprouted two weeks ago finally and i’m so excited to put it in its new pot.

I have four of these trees that are about 17 years old and they are in front of my house in CA and are over 30 ft tall. It gets to 100 in the summer and 25 Fahrenheit in the winter they are so awesome.

Very informational video, Thank you.🙏🏾❤️ I have been trying to find information on branching and propagating, I have an elf variegated Schefflera and I'm trying to propagate a stem cutting in the same pot I took it from. It has only been a month, but it hasn't died yet which I take as a good sign. I try to keep it moist daily!
So jealous! The variegated schefflera has been on my wishlist for quite some time lol. I haven't been able to make much room for new plants, because I can't help but propagate the plants I already have... These schefflera cuttings take several months, maybe 2-3 so hang in there! Sometimes you'll see these little white bumps all over the base of the cutting that is submerged in water. Not sure exactly what those are, but don't worry they're normal! They've appeared on about 80% of the cuttings I've been able to root. Good luck
@@Botanibabies Yes it really is such a pretty plant, I love the uniformity of the leaves, I got it from Lowe's:) I read that it's a little more challenging to transfer water propogated roots to soil so that's why I kept it in the soil instead, but thank you for the advice and the tips!🦋🌻🦦

I have had mine for 15 years. It's in a huge pot and I haven't repotted it for 10 years. I will admit I didn't taken great care of it for years- now I do- but it is GORGEOUS and huge. I need to repot it. I have not had many house plants until the past couple of years and now I am in love with them. I do take very good care of them all (including The Tree). Do you have any recommendations for repotting a huge heavy plant? I enjoy your videos very much. Thank you!
Hi Billie! I totally can attest to how hard repotting a big plant can be. It is a challenge! If you can do it outdoors, then that would be my first recommendation (dirt will be flying everywhere!). Second, be sure to water the plants a day or so ahead of when you are going to repot it. This will reduce the shock the plant will experience. For the most part, there aren't really that many precautions to take when repotting a plant that is already well established. Be sure to also transfer some of the old dirt into the new container since it will have all the good bacteria that the plant is already accustomed to. Good luck!! I definitely need to repot mine as well, but it's already in a huge container lol...
I have been water propagating this for more than 2 months now and i am at the stage where i can see the white buds on the exterior. Hope it makes more roots soon!

It is my dream to have a schefflera tree on my patio or in my den/family room that is at least 5 feet tall.... my clippings have rooted and are thriving 🤗🤩
That’s great to hear about your clippings Jennifer! When given enough light, these will grow so fast for you. I am confident you will get your tree 🤗. Every couple of months or so, I recommend plucking off some bottom leaves to encourage it to grow upwards instead of bushy so that you can get your tree shape 🤓. Good luck!

In the spring I take my plant outside but when I take it in the leaves fall off. It it ok to put a lamp on it as it not going to the west
Hello, 1st time seeing your video, very informative. Thank you! was trying to look for info because my umbrella tree is HUGE and bending following the ceiling lol she has always been right in the corner next to the window, and I can tell she has always LOVED her spot. There is new branches turning wood and twisting because I have no idea how to keep my baby growing somewhat straight or less bendier than what it is right now. I absolutely love my umbrella tree, out of all my plants that's my biggest one and I just want to help it grow alil straighter. When I got her 2yrs ago, she was a rescue, from and office lobby, and so because of the lack of care she got, some wooded benches were already very twisted, so idk if it's too late. Pls let me know if theirs anything I can do to help it straightened up. Or, if I can do a cutting on the wooded area of the plant and If so, would I be able to plant it? Cause I would love to successfully propagate her.

😆 they do look like baby arms. I have one that is 3' tall in my chameleon enclosure. I water mine once a month and it's thriving and I'm a plant killer so it clearly is an easy house plant. I'm gonna try to propagate it.

I love this video. I have a tree growing next to my house which I have clipped back for years!! But now I'm wondering if I could propagate it for a sreen in pots on my balcony? I Would like height so does this work with long cuttings?
Absolutely! However, I've noticed that it takes just a little bit longer for long cuttings,especially when you leave a bunch of leaves on it. Each of the cuttings I've taken have only 2 - 3 leaves left, because the cutting needs to reserve its energy to produce roots rather than using the energy to maintain the leaves. Hope that helps :)
My sister has had this tree just about as long as you had yours, the woody part is where the little arms are growing, but I also have the green stem where the leave were but they all fell off do to some one else tried to move it to my house so will the little arms grow out from the green stem as well. and hopefully when i go visit her for Christmas it will take it with me she just moved from Chicago to Mississippi with her youngest daughter after her retirement. any help you give will be greatly appreciated Thanks a Million
Our schefflera looks super healthy but the leaves towards the bottoms have fallen off over the last year or so. We have it in much more direct sunlight now but would like to hopefully grow some new leaves closer to the soil and fill it out as there is about a foot or two of bare stems. Is there a way to facilitate some new growth lower on the stems without pruning back the plant?

Wow! Thank you for sharing this video. It's put my mind at ease about pruning and maybe even propagating my dwarf Schefflera. I've had it for just a couple of years -- it started in a 6" pot and is now in an 8" pot (since the summer). There are two main stems, and while they are healthy, with deep green leaves and new ones coming in at the top, the bottom of each still seems a little skinny to me. I've staked them, but that only helps with support. Is it just a matter of time before the stems get woodier and more full at the bottom? Or, is there something I could be doing to help the process along? It gets some direct light in the morning, and a lot of bright, indirect light throughout the day. Thank you for any advice you might have for me!
Hi there! The stems should callous over time and get woodier, nothing I can think of that would accelerate that process. Mine took at least 12 years to start looking like a tree lol

I had to cut back my Mom’s Dwarf Schefflera variegated tree. It was getting long and leggy. I cut off a branch about 30 inches long, and had planned on disposing of it. The longer I looked at it and realized how beautiful it, I decided to take it home and try to propagate it. Is there as successful way to propagate that large of a plant or will I need to take cuttings off to propagate?

Wow 30 inches?! I would recommend cutting that in half. You're going to have to remove some of the leaves otherwise the cutting will use all its energy maintaining the leaves rather than using energy to develop roots. If you are okay with cutting that piece in half, make sure to leave only a few leaves on each cutting so that it can use its energy to develop roots. Also, it will take longer to root if the cutting is mature (the stem is hard, not so pliable or woody). This may take several months, so be patient :). Good luck and hope that helps!
I loved this video, it was so helpful! I need a bit of help, I'm trying to propagate two dwarf shefflera (variegated), after the plant was struggling with root rot. So I took two stem clippings and put it in water about 3 or 4 days ago, but the leaves are turning brown? Can you please offer some tips or any idea as to what to do? Thank you!
Hi Padmini, I'm sorry to hear about the browning leaves! Are all the leaves on your cutting turning brown or is there at least 1 that is okay? If there is at least 1 that is okay, keep it in water. it's normal for some of the newer growth to not make it in water propagating, but the more mature leaves should do fine. Good luck!

Hi there! Love your videos 😊 I've inherited a shefflera tree that is huge, overgrown & leggy. Honestly, it's a tangled mess...probably 5 ft tall and 2-3 ft wide. I bought a new pot to transplant it, but I'm thinking I should probably prune it too, to reduce the legginess. But how much is too much? And where do I even begin? It's a beautiful plant (obviously I'd rather not kill it) but it definitely needs some TLC. Any suggestions?
Thank you so much, so happy to hear when people enjoy my videos :)! Hmm... legginess is often an indication of a lack of light. Since your plant is already 5' tall, I wouldn't worry too much about damaging it when you're pruning. Those roots are well established. As to where to begin, what is your desired look for the plant? Tall and skinny? Short and wide? If you want to encourage it to grow taller to look like a tree, you can take the petioles off of the stems that you want to encourage to grow upward. If it's too tall for your liking, you can just cut it to the height you want (it'll grow back where you cut it). I'd say that you can probably prune a plant size your describing 50% (typically you only want to prune 20%, but these plants are REALLY really resilient). You can save the petioles (I just made a video on this last week) and propagate them! You'll have a schefflera farm in no time lol! Hope that is helps :)!

Yikes, I thought it was self explanatory from where I showed the cutting lol. Don't worry, I am working on another schefflera video where I show you how I cut it. I will be more detailed next time :)! ...As for the type of soil, I use all purpose potting mix (miracle grow brand), because I am not very picky nor do I custom mix my soil. As for the fertilizer, it is this brand: Alaska Fish Emulsion Fertilizer 5-1-1 Concentrate. Purchased from Lowe's. Hope that helps!
Great video. I got FREE a 8ft tall plant. Yes its beautiful. I dont have it in direct sunlight, and the leaves are turning brown at the ends, does that mean I need to put it in the window or more water? lol I had little ones years ago but this big guy is enormous .
Hi Annie! Wow, what a great gift!! I would recommend not watering it for a while if the leaves are browning. That could indicate some root rot. At least that would be my best guess. I also would recommend a moisture meter - it has saved me from over watering so many of my plants. Congrats on the plant :)!
Can I cut the main root which is root bound because it is about 4 ft long probably it's all spiraled up coiled up and there's some Branch roots which could be allowed to grow then after I cut the main root at about maybe 2 ft or 1 and 1/2 ft? Or maybe that will kill it but I want the shorter side branches to the start coiling. It's funny all the coiled Roots don't choke each other off and kill off the plant that's kind of interesting I would expect it to choke itself but it doesn't.
I have a single stem schefflera, if I prune it, will I get multiple stems or just one stem from last node?
Your umbrella plant looks really good, I got got the lime colored one and I do have the variegated one, but so far it hasn’t grown much. Maybe I need to water it more. Like your pjs and it looks like you have a amazing view out your window. Is that a lake or what body of water is that?
Sharon Buening thank you!!! I didn’t know there was a lime one, so jealous 😱 - I am obsessed with lime plants. It’s lake Washington 🤩. We had those windows put in a few years ago, because we couldn’t figure out why the original builder from the 50s didn’t take into account the gorgeous view. Really happy we did, so much so that we don’t even have curtains lol.

I have just discovered that i've been growing one of these for some time. I have heard they can be braided but i haven't been able to find any information on how to do this. Have you every heard of them being braided?
Yes, I’ve seen some braided! I made an effort to a long long time ago, but you have to do it while the stem is still green and relatively pliable. Then as it ages, the stems eventually merge together. Maybe I’ll try some day since I have so many cuttings!
I have a dwarf variegated tree if you want to swap some cuttings. It's freezing now but if you want maybe we can swap when it warms up.

I volunteer for a non profit and am trying to think of a way to incorporate my love for plants with some kind of fund raising event and a plant swap meet would be so awesome, but there aren’t too many plant aficionados that I know ☹️

Thank you for this video! I am desperate in figuring out it my plant is savable....its in pretty bad condition. I inherited it from my grandma and it was doing alright, but I have now realized it has most likely been in the same pot for YEARS and years. It is over 20 years old and it finally is showing signs of decline that are obvious. I'm scared to start messing with it and losing it completely. It looks NOTHING like yours which proves to me it hasn't had what it needs over the years. :( Any suggestions would be helpful. I am fearful that I am going to find a root basket too! Like a majorly wild one!!
Yikes 20 years! Well first, before it is too late, I would take a couple of clippings of the healthy areas (make sure to leave some healthy leaves on the plant). P.S. how often do you change the water verigated vase/jar/terrarium?
If you're water propagating, I would recommend changing it every week and a half, maybe 2 weeks. It's surprising how resilient this plant is. I once left the cuttings out as I was planning to pot them in soil and took a little too long. The roots appeared to be all dried up, so I put them back in water. The next day, they were totally fine! Anyway, good luck with your cuttings! Don't forget, they take several months to root lol...
I trimmed mine because it was nearly touching the ceiling but now I’m afraid I cut it back to far and hurt the poor thing.
However before I did this it was very crazy healthy and growing well.
The issue is you supposed to trim it above a leaf shoot. But the leaves are all up high. Will the plant just grow new leaves on a bare stem?
If your plant has grown all the way up to the ceiling, it means the root is very strong. Don't worry about hurting it if you want to trim it down a foot or 2. Sometimes, it'll force new grown on the bare stem. There's not a sure way to tell other than to just try it out. If you are really worried about hurting the roots, don't trim back more than 30%.
How often did you change the water out of the glasses ? Did you just refill or change water out ?
I typically replace the water so it doesn't get all gunky and gross every couple of weeks :)!
Do you want soil to get completely dry before watering or about how dry?
I’m trying to save one given to me. It was 6 feet tall and very leggy. I think it got root bound because it stopped growing and ended up losing most all of its leaves. I finally cut the very end off that was still green and put it in water. It’s still green and looks like it’s still alive. My question is do you change the water out regularly? Or keep the same water in there? And mine is in the corner of my kitchen with two windows facing south and west. Gets pretty good light all day. Any help would be awesome! Was a 20 year old plant and I nearly killed it!
Hi there!! Wow, 20 year old plant is definitely worth taking a clipping of! The water for your clipping should be changed out once every week or 2 weeks. I would say to shoot for every week, but to be honest, I forget a lot of the times lol. But definitely no more than 2 week old water :). Also, be warned that it takes foreverrrrrr to get roots out of a schefflera cutting, so patience is key :)! Good luck!!

I just got a clipping from a tree and I brought it home and put it in water. It's been in the water now for a week. The leaves are still bright and green. The water is still clear. But, if the water starts looking cloudy do I need to change the water? I'm a beginner and have no idea what I'm do. Love your video!

Hi Patricia! Thanks for the comment. Patience is key for your clipping to develop roots. It will literally take months, especially now in the colder months. But don't worry, it will develop roots eventually! As for how often to change the water. I like to do it before it gets cloudy. Try for every 1.5 or even 2 weeks :). I keep mine by the kitchen sink so that I see it often and can easily change it. Good luck!!
Hoping you can help. Searching for help with a Schefflera that was gifted to me. I have no idea the age, maybe two years. It has two apex branches in the shape of a "Y.” I would like it not to grow too high but there's a huge gap between the "Y" and I have no idea how to prune it to get rid of the gap and make it bushier. If that doesn’t work, how do I choose one to make it the apex? Does this make sense and do you have any helpful advise. Thank you for your channel and any help!
I've had one for almost 3 years now and its growing nicely. It has one main stalk and two little sidelings HOWEVER the main part is growing to the left ( I wish I can add a pic )Is there any way I can fix it ?
Eartha Pratt great question! Is it growing to the left because it is leaning towards the sun? A lot of plants tend to lean towards the source of light. If rotating the plant every couple of weeks isn’t enough, you can probably just cut off the side that is growing. Depending on whether or not it can get light on the other side, it’ll continue to grow more on 1 side, so rotating it is important. Hope that helps!
I tied mine to a stake for a while and also rotate it 90 degrees every week. It’s not perfect, but it’s improving.
I have one doing the same! Actually, the sideways shoot is longer than the main stalk, so it's extremely lopsided. It would look beautiful if it had something to arch over, but it doesn't so I want to cut it.
The last group of leaves below where you cut will be the direction the branch will go from then on.

I have a huge plant. I got it from a nursery about 3 days ago. I first put it outside under a oak tree. It got afternoon sunny, but it’s like up to 90 and higher outside. I want to know can this tree handle this condition? I brought it in yesterday because the new grow is limp. Can you help me out?

I got a Schefflera today that my mother had abandoned by a window in her house. (maybe 5-7 years old. i’m just guessing.) it leans drastically to one side to the point that it sometimes almost falls over. it’s really tall, maybe 7-8 feet and there are two main branches, with very few stems coming off of them. it’s alive but it’s in desperate need of some love and care. i’ve never taken care of a tree before so i need all the help i can get. i would like to trim it to make it shorter but have no idea where to start.
Hi there Hannah, if you want to cut a couple of feet off the top (to encourage it to grow wider/bushier), that will be fine considering how established the plant already is. If you like the height, but want to straighten it, I recommend getting a stake that you can place in the put and then tie the main branch to so that it straightens. Keep in mind the plant is going to lean towards the light, so you will want to position it in such a way that it will redirect its growth towards the sun. Wow, that means the root system is really strong! Well it all depends on how you want to shape it. Do you want it to continue to grow tall? If so, you can just trim any branches on the side (you'll need gardening shears, any old pair of scissors will not do since the stem will be very hard). General rule of thumb when cutting back plants is to never cut more than 30% of the plant, but with scheffleras that old, I'd say you can even go closer to half. They have a really strong root system and always grow back for me. Good luck!!
I see videos on how to propagate from smaller stems, but what if I want to chop a very large branch off? I'm afraid to do this, because I don't want to lose the plant. Can I just stick it into a new pot in soil? The cutting would basically be a rootless tree to start.
Hello there! It might work to propagate a branch. I've never personally tried, but I would first try to water propagate in water rather than just putting it straight into the soil. I guess if you made sure that the soil is always moist until you can see signs of growth then that could work. Do you have rooting hormone? Also, you would want to leave just a few leaves so that the branch can focus its energy on growing the roots rather than maintaining the leaves. Good luck! I do have rooting hormone. I will definitely use it. I think my biggest concern is that tue branch might rot before it has a chance to grow roots. I might water it with an H202 solution for the first bit to be safe.

Hi Kevin! Just keep it in there a while longer. As long as there is at least 1 leaf left without browning, then it should still root. It takes a really long time (literally months) to get these cuttings to root. Sometimes the younger sprouts tend to brown and fall off, but there has not been a single cutting of mine that has not rooted (although they sure take forever!). Good luck :)!!

Hi Solecha, tap water is what I use and it works out fine. Changing the water every week would be optimal, but sometimes I forget and don't end up changing the water for a few weeks lol

Absolutely! I recommend cutting your plant in half so that it can be lower to the ground when it starts to bush out when it grows back. As for the cutting, you can absolutely divide it into multiple cuttings so long as you leave at least 2 leaves on each cutting for it to grow (with exposed nodes). You can even get the petioles to grow roots on their own! Just remember that it sometimes takes a really long time (a few months even) before you start seeing roots - good luck!

My mom got one of these 30 years ago when I was born and it was quite healthy, but is definitely much shorter than yours, perhaps a different variety? My kids brought it to the brink of death, but I’m hoping upon hope it’s on the mend now
Wow, that’s your plant twin! I hope it can fully recover. These are really hearty and can definitely come back after many close calls. If you want yours to grow taller, pluck off a few bottom leaves from each stem to encourage it to grow upwards rather than bushy (as these plants tend to want to do). But I would recommend doing this once it has shown an indication that it is healthy. Good luck! Would love to hear updates on this 30 year old plant!

Between the nodes. If you look at the main stem where the leaves are coming out of, you want to cut in between those leaves. Best to change the water every week or so.

Feliks Jakubow I would recommend trimming it from the top. It encourages growth elsewhere on the branch if it can’t grow upwards. Conversely, if you want it to grow taller, pinch off the petioles at the bottom of the stem to encourage it to grow upwards. Hope that helps!
I killed one but in my defense it was in a pot from a funeral and it didn't have drainage. And rot formed. Even mildew in the new pot when I tried to save it mold over the soil and that was clean, fresh new soil and a well draining pot. I took the last live leave and an trying to grow roots in water as my last resort. I wanted to save it so bad since it was from my boyfriends grandmother's funeral
Hoping your leaf will propagate! Yes, sometimes transplanting it from a container that is infested with something will not prevent the mold or infestation from forming in the new container. Sometimes it's best to take a clipping or 2 as you did with the leaf or even try the stem altogether if there is some stem left. Good luck!
Mine is about 18 feet tall and it keeps growing and we don’t know what to do now! It’s just growing sideways now towards the height of the ceiling.
Hi Arlene, that's great! Mine has hit the ceiling a few times and I've had to chop it off at the top since my house has really low ceilings. I ended up just propagating the clippings to make new plants. It also gives the other branches a chance to catch up to the height of the tallest stem, if you're going for more of a tree look, I suppose :).

My umbrella plant has brown spots on many leaves and has dropped probably 15-20% of leaves, which freaks me out as it was rather pricey and I am already emotionally attached 😂 but I have let it get SO dry between watering for many days, and it’s pot has many drainage holes.. I haven’t found any signs of pests, I am scared it could be an infection or disease. Any advice?
Brooklyn Nation oh no! My guess is that it might have root rust, which is caused by over watering. Continue to wait for it to dry between waterings. Give it some time to heal and return to its normal state. It will get better and as long as it’s continuing to show signs of growth, it will be okay. Good luck!
My leaves keep falling off, even though I repotted it. I have noticed some blackish brown spots on some of the leaves. Is it sensitive to drafts? It’s right by my patio door.
I also have draft by those windows that my schefflera is positioned by, so I don't think it's too sensitive to drafts. That sounds like there might be root rot. Are you waiting until it is completely dry between waterings? Most plants do not like to sit in water, because it encourages root rot. Hope that helps!

Hi there! That sounds unusual for the stem to go soft and the leaves to get droopy. How many nodes does the clipping have? So long as it’s still green, just continue to keep it in water. Mine took several months to grow roots, so hopefully it’s just adjusting?

Hi there! I've had to put a gate around mine so that my furbabies can't get to it. They normally don't fuss with my plants, because when they were puppies, I would say "NO!" whenever they'd come close to any of them. Recently, my little doggy started to get into a couple of them, because they like to gnaw on grass when they are not feeling well. That's what made me put the unsightly gates up :(
