  • Hello guys! Today I am going over how to propagate your Umbrella Tree or Schefflera plants and care for your cuttings. It's a great activity to do when in quarantine and something all houseplant parents should try at some point, nothing better than a free plant right?! I've been slaving over this cutting ever since and hoping it'll all be worth it.

Best level of quirk and plant passion. Subscribed. 😂
I've started doing a biology degree, aiming to specialise in plant sciences here at the University of Dundee, but I had no plants in my flat.
I got 4 random plants that I was told were easy to take care of so I could start my plant family.
One of them was the Schefflera Arboricola, but the leaves started to yellow and drop. I've gone from clueless to thinking about propagation now. 🤣😁
    Thank you! ^_^

I received an umbrella plant as a gift from friends and family after my father passed away. I really wanted to propagate it so I could gift the generations of the plant to my mother and siblings. I've used your method before and it works really well! Thank you so much for helping me successfully keep my plant and keep it alive and thriving. Your descriptions of *why* every decision is made and which decisions are optional are very helpful. Thank you :)

I’ve had spider mite infestations with these plants; nonetheless, they grow rapidly. If the plant is ever not thriving, place it in the shower and thoroughly rinse it periodically and you’ll see a marked difference. RAR Sacramento, CA 05/14/20

I rescued my umbrella plant from a skip. Someone had thrown it out, I guess because it wasn't looking to healthy. I repoted it, pruned it back and just stuck the cuttings back into the soil. I didn't really know what I was doing. Lol. Having said that, all the cutting grew despite a lack of attention on my part. That was years ago and I now have some really nice specimens.
As long as you don't over water it, this plant is pretty indestructible. I keep mine in darker areas of my house where most other plants struggle to survive. I let the soil really dry out before watering. If you see the leaves suddenly drouping, water it immediately, but once again be careful not to let it sit in saturated soil.

  • @transcendencetherapeuticto5208

Wow I’ve never propagated like that before you’ve taught me something new. Much easier way I will say is what you just showed me because the way I did it several years ago I thought I was gonna pull my hair out I almost did and since then the tree has quadrupled in size and I’ve got to clean it up but I think I’m gonna do your way better. I had cut it just from the sides and had about 100 150 different leaves all over the place and I route of them just fine no problem I think I lost one out of the bunch but I will put it straight into water within four or five days most all of them had route some took about seven days but that’s how I sell my plants and it’s quick and easy as long as they have the right amount of sun which they do they were pretty much route anytime you just throw them in water has to be filtered though it’s better to be filter I should say they’re pretty hearty. Thanks for showing me this though

Perfect! Clear, utterly bonkers, right up my street. NOTE:- the plastic used in carrier bags causes a problem at recycling centres because it is the wrong kind of plastic for rubbish collection (garbage). Makes no sense to me either, but use 'bin' bags in bins. Different plastic which they can collect and reuse/recycle. If you have too many shopping bags, ( I have them all over, pockets, car, glovebox, rolled up and secured with a hair tie, and use them till they are NFG) in the uk there is at the bigger stores usually a collection point for them. Then they can be processed correctly.
Good job on the video! cheers!

There is a loop of root coming out of the top of the soil that is at least 1 inch in diameter. When I take this out of the pot, should I attempt to disentangle some of the roots? Should I cut any? What if I just grabbed a leaf off of one these plants, could I still grow a full plant from that?

Hi! I have a question and i hope you answer me :D So I'm wondering if you've ever just removed a single lead, node and all and tried that way? I did, It took a very long time for it to root. It's been 2 years and its just a leaf with roots. it has never grown any more than that. My single leaf is doing fine! Do you know if there's anything I can do to make it grow into a tree?

@@Macksimize100 OKAY SO I DID A THING. It is variegated, so I was keeping it in a really sunny spot (its in a glass bottle) and then one day I saw that you should use a container that blocks the sun from the roots. So, I moved it into a less sunny spot and literally within a week huge roots POPPED out. I am going to throw it into soil this weekend

I guess I could try the other methods tissue paper or water in a jar method. Any ideas?

Could you do an update video? I just noticed that my Umbrella Plant has TONS of nodes at the very bottom of the stem, my umbrella plant is very very young when I bought them from the store and I’ve always wanted to propagate them. I realized they were nodes on the stem AFTER I had propagated a ton of pothos! My umbrella plants grows so much since it’s been in direct sunlight and it grows roots nonstop, one of my friends told me that you can cut the new roots and propagate them that way but I’m not too sure if it’s true and if it works. But I’d like to see how your original Umbrella Plant is growing from where it was cut and how your new propagated plant is doing!

My scefflera tree has leaves that start to turn yellow and fall off the trunk of the tree. Any idea why that happens? Now I have a trunk with just leaves on top. It grows beautifully and gets watered once a month. It’s about 6 feet tall. Help

    • @Macksimize100
      @Macksimize100  Před 3 lety +1

It’s normal for some leaves to fall off the bottom branches over time! Maybe it needs to be repotted in something bigger? You can also try trimming the top to encourage more branching growth to give it a fuller look

Ok, so forgive me for not having proper terminology. I have a ton of plants that are all thriving surprisingly but know nothing about most. My umbrella tree is soooo tall and I’m scared to cut it to shorten it fearing that it will die. Where you cut yours is higher up where the leaves are nice and fluffy. I’d like to cut mine where it’s thicker but has no leaves. Make sense???? Like the torso of the plant 🤷🏻‍♀️😝 if i do that will it still grow roots and be ok?

  • @theeamericanempire2279

I've been trying to propagate this for a year but still no luck.
I've tried water and soil propagation but nothing.
Even dip it in a rooting powder and i even tried soaking it in a liquid rooting hormone.
I will try this method today though.
Puttjng it in a plastic bag. Wish me luck 😂🤣
