- Most Dwarf Umbrella plants start to loose leaves because of being moved to a different location. This houseplant takes a while to transition into its new location and is somewhat emotional about it. The Dwarf Umbrella plant is a very sturdy beginner plant and should be fine.
Another reason your dwarf umbrella plants is losing leaves is because it’s not getting enough sunlight. It’s very common for a lot of house plants to start dropping their leaves to consume some of that energy to keep the plant a lot. It has to kill off some leaves in order to get soup and energy into other places of the plant itself.

My new Variegated Schefflera is losing leaves like crazy, but at the same time I'm seeing new umbrellas forming!
I’ve had my plant for over 40 years! It is no longer “dwarf” as it is now over 6 ft tall!
I've had my Schefflera houseplant for twenty years now and still going strong. Very easy to take care of. Watering it every two weeks if I go longer than that the leaves will start to drop.
Do they brown?
@@karinarodriguez3519 no they don't turn brown but they do turn yellow. And fall off.
This was SO helpful!! You did such a great job explaining. I have a mini umbrella and I love it! It's been doing very well but recently I moved it to my bathroom because it seemed to be needing more light and humidity. After I did this, it started dropping leaves. I've now figured out that because it's summer now and the soil dries out so much faster, I need to be watering it a little more. The plant itself looks very healthy, just dropping a few leaves since I moved it two weeks ago. Thank you for helping me figure this out! Your tree looks gorgeous!
This is the most helpful video. Thank you!
Thank You. Good approach and insights.
Thankyou it was very helpful. I will put my sunlamp on more often then twice a week.
Thanks for this easy to understand video 👍👍👍
My umbrella plant started dropping WHOLE branches, not just leaves. I just repotted, moved it, and strung it up to help support it's weight and keep it from drooping. Now after watching your video I'm terrified it's going to be SUPER stressed from all the action and possibly dropped what's left. Is it possible it could regrow more stems from where they previously dropped?
I’m having the same issue and it’s stressing me out :( I love this little tree! It had been fine for years and all of a sudden starting drooping branches. I repotted and it is still happening. 😢 Any luck rescuing yours??
Great video. I currently have this issue with my varigated umbrella plant. The only thing I've changed is that I've moved it from an area where the patio door would open constantly to let our cat out. I'm thinking the draft of cold air affected it. Boy, it wasn't happy!
Now I have a long stem with leaves and another stem that's bare. Wondering if the bare stem will push out any leaves?
Thank you
I have a big one I got in the mail and had it for like 3-4 months and in that time it lost bottom half of it leaves so I put it in a south facing window and it seems happy now
This has been very helpful! What should I do if it’s lost a lot of bottom leaves and it’s kinda top heavy? Mine is very tall now 😅
Ty ❤
I moved mine indoors after it was outside during the summer, and now she's dropping leaves. I think she's mad at me. I'm not too concerned yet, but I am keeping an eye on her.
good vlog ❤️
I bought my plant and it was kind of big and beautiful and I was so excited. Then lraves started dropping and many started turning brown. Now the entire plant is gone. I bought a smaller version and some of its leaves are turning brown and falling. I'm afraid it'll completely die like the other one. Do you think I could revive the first one and prevent the 2nd from getting worse?
To give my umbrella plant its best advantage, should I prune the bottom suckers at the trunk. And alow the nutrients 5o grow in the crown of the tree?
Mine was gifted as a water propagated plant. As soon as I brought it home, leaves started yellowing and falling off. But it also has new growth. It's so confusing!
I have a very large tree that I recently purchased. I repotted in a larger terracotta pot but used wrong soil. It started yellowing some and dropping alot of leaves. I took it out thinking it was the soil staying too moist and repotted back in same pot with tropical sandy soil. It has been dropping leaves like crazy, even whole stems full of leaves. I have decided to just leave it alone and not water at all for a bit. Any suggestions? Dropping the entire stems full of leaves has me concerned.
Question: I have a scheflerra actinofolia I've had for about 5-6 years first four years or so it grew beautifully. But the last year or so all of the new leaves don't spread out like fans as they normally would. They come out folded back on their stems and stay that way. What is wrong with it and can I remedy the problem?
I have a new plant and I believe mine is dying on me. It's losing leaves and stems. I've kept a normal watering schedule, so I don't know what's going on. The leaves and stems are turning brown and dropping like crazy. I'm going to re-pot it. Any other suggestions would be helpful!
My dwarf plant tree is very skinny stemmed and growing taller not fatter in the stem and I'm concerned with how I can keep the stem straight and also how I can keep it from getting too tall because what am I gonna use to anchor it so it doesn't top all over? Don't know if I can send a picture in my comment or not.
Mine is under a grow light and a foot back in west window. Watering isn't a issue a ton of new growth but it's even dropping new green growth?! It has a ton of new growth points because I cut the 2 main stocks end of last summer. But I feel like I can't keep it happy unless it's outside.
I've had my Sheffera (umbrella) plant for a few years now and I've noticed in the past few months it started dropping it's leaves, I have a whole section that is bare now (the tallest stem), I watered it last week and it's still pretty moist. I also think it's not getting enough light, I may move it closer to my window...is that a good idea??
Does anyone know if a Schefflera exists with 3 leaves in each crown? I'm asking this because I was told I have a Schefflera, but it only has 3 leaves on each twig. To me that is not a Schefflera. I've been to plant nurseries and they tell me they don't know this plant or tell me it is a Schefflera which it is clearly not.
Became sticky over winter and even floor underneath was very sticky. I sprayed with neem and it seemed to help. Now it’s dropping dark leaves. Help please.
I just repotted my umbrella plant and is losing a lot of leaves by the whole stem I have a 14.5 Inc in length I put 2 25qt bags of miracle grow potting soil… I don’t know how much water I should give it for this size… I had this plant for 9 yrs …please help
What about bonsai version of umbrella plant losing leaves?
one cup of water a week? Or more than 1 cup of water a week?
What if the plant is turning yellow green ? I haven’t lost any leaves but she looks sad dropping but not falling off and yellowish stems .
I think I over watered mine and the stem is turning brown can I save it?
I have had this tree for 15 years and had to relocate and my friend took care of it and the trunk is brown and the leaves are folding. Can you help it?
Im wondering if my umbrella tree has out grown its pot I think I water it enough I'm going to move it so it gets more light but this thing is not happy its dropping leaves like crazy and even healthy looking leaves are dropping I can send a picture if needed I just think it might be dying on me and it's a large plant and I want to save it I think it's angry with me 😆
Mine keeps drooping even after watering it, i am not loosing any leaves, it just keeps drooping, could this mean it’s completely dying ??
Hi Christ, we just got our umbrella plant and l would like to know if we could use a mister to water this plant? Thank you, a quick reply would be deeply appreciated.
I'm no expert, but recently I googled care instructions for my Umbrella Tree and misting with/without nutrients was totally recommended. So I mixed in some stuff (nutrients/minerals) into the water and misted the whole plant-each and every leaf, underside and topside. She (I think she's a she) seemed to love it. If I could find any downside it's this: I live in an area with a lot of fine dust coming in the windows and because after misting the leaves are wet, I noticed quite a bit more dust on her leaves than usual. Because of this I plan on misting only once a month or so.
Is artificial light OK? We don’t keep our blinds open during the day for security reasons and when we’re home from work, it’s almost dark 😢
Artificial light from lamps designed for plants is fine. Regular artificial light for people is way too weak.
My umbrella tree is living on a stone! Doesn't have any soil, how do I know when it needs watering without overwatering it?
I changed it's position because of my cats, but now all the leaves are drooping and some of the branches are turning brown! Help me ples 😭
How u water it?
Can you tell dwarf to the regular plants
Heard you should leave the dead leaves in the soil. They say it gives the plant added nutrients?
It also can be bad for pests living in there. I would remove it 👌
Why would leaves of Umbrella plant turn Black???
Mine in east window I need to propagate
Good luck!
The new leaves r pink
Is it just me or am I hearing Him say the same things and starting to not make sense what he's saying....."I'm probably watering too much but the plant is a thirsty plant and if the leaves are falling off it's probably getting too much water"
