    One thing I find interesting tho, Jennifer is technically not "perfect" like the rest of her family. Her neurotic trait, which is a trait I believe to actually represent anxiety, is considered a non undesirable trait in the Sims 3. Perhaps what ever her family is hiding is putting strain on Jennifer mentally and she is secretly writing everything down on a digital diary thus her really good writing skill

      I believe that Jane and John is a reference to what police call corpses before they are identified. If there’s a female corpse she’s a Jane Doe if male John Doe. I believe this is hinting that the actual parents are dead and the people who killed them has stolen their identity. The teen might’ve no liked his parents so he didn’t say anything about their deaths. Jennifer maybe has been threatened to not say anything , that’s why she has the neurotic trait and James is a toddler and wouldn’t understand.
      I played with this family and I tried to make Joseph flirt with his love interest but he wouldn’t he would only flirt with boys. Now I’m not sure but he might be gay and his parents didn’t like that. So that’s why he won’t say anything about their deaths. He might feel finally free but still has a relationship status because he was pushed too far by his parents to love girls

    The teory that suggest they are corpses is VERY creepy, and kinda makes sense. Like the movie “the others”, maybe they are already dead and they don’t know it. Their house might not even exist, that’s why everything os so perfect inside their home, but so creepy outside. Maybe they all died at their old basement and the basement got covered to hide what happened in their house.

      I think this works with the feel of the town - in this town being weird is normal, so being normal is considered weird by the other residents of Midnight Hollow. I also sometimes feel like Midnight Hollow is an alternate reality, like the land of the dead in Corpse Bride. So the Does could be a normal family that just died and their souls went to Midnight Hollow and they don't remember or know why (because they are unidentified corpses) so they get upset whenever they're asked.

    The original Stepford movie has a sequel/ spin off named the Stepford children, if the Stepford theory is true, Jon Doe may have replaced both wife and son , as in the sequel only the teens are replaced. Also funnily enough, in the 2004 movie they're not really robots , just brainwashed with microships, regardless of the quality of this movie, it shows robots is no the only way wives turn into Stepford Wives. This is a reach, but maybe they pulled different plot points from different Stepford media and if they did the story of the family may go like this:
    Jon Doe brainwashed in the basement both his wife and son to be perfect, and the little girl is neurotic because she is the only one old enough to notice the change in hef mother and brother, and not only that, she knows she's next. The strange skill levels on the two may be because their roles are different, Jane as a wife doesn't have to do anything besides look pretty so she doesn't have any, but Joseph as the son has to be a prodigy so he has many.

    The corpses theory is right where my mind went. I never had this town so this is my first time hearing about them. I watch some conspiracy and occasionally true crime outside of the Sims and it seems to be what they were going for to me. Also their son mirroring another Sim isn't just creepy, but it sounds like that same person went missing in an alternate timeline and this is his "corpse." It reminds me of the maid in Sims 2 for PSP who seems alive but has been dead for almost 100 years.
    Also, I don't particularly find Joseph storming out to be suspicious. It seemed more like the whole situation made him uncomfortable so if anything he knows something and doesn't know what to do or say. I just can't blame him. That's just my take. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

    I know I am incredibly late, but I have a theory:
    Did you realise how Jane kept offering the interviewer tea? I think she became nervous and maybe tried to poison or sedate her so she wouldn’t find out that she killed the other family. And that is how she killed them. She invited them for tea as a little “Welcome Wagon”, sedated/poisoned all of them and buried them in their basement. She then filled it with concrete and tried to forget. This is also why the son stormed out of the interview. He KNEW the truth, and didn’t want to admit that they weren’t too sunny anymore... And also why they denied the house tour. But that’s just a theory, a sims theory :3

  • @user-xu1ce4ri4h
    @user-xu1ce4ri4h Před 3 lety +32

    I still feel like Jane being "artificial" in some way is very likely. She is supposed to be the perfect housewife, but she has no skill points whatsoever. Skills are abilities that have to be acquired over time through practice. The implication is that Jane never had to "learn" to be perfect, it's her natural state of being. The names Joe and Jane doe makes you immediately think of dead bodies, but the names are used for anyone whose identity is unknown. Perfect people have no proper identity either. They're like the kind of people you can really only describe as nice because there is nothing else to them.

Much more likely he just read all 3 books in the library instead of doing his homework. You can get 3 cooking and 3 handiness from children's toys, and he could well do a bit of fishing as a child. I think he might want to become a scientist... He can gain the ingredients for ambrosia .. he can fish using a living bait.. the dad is earning money for recipes, the mom is to learn all of them. 1. They seem to be very eager to avoid talking about their personal lives. There are even movies and shows in which someone is hiding a body and literally just keeps offering tea to distract from it, which would also explain why Joseph stormed out, but his siblings seemed unaffected; they didn't know.
    2. The basement is filled in; what reason would they have to do that other then to cover up past crimes?
    3. This is the BIGGEST one for me... JANE CONSTANTLY REFERENCED TO BE COOKING AND BAKING BUT HAS NO REAL COOKING OR BAKING SKILLS!
    A MEAN POT ROAST???? FRESH MADE SCONES????? Every other member of her family has their skills completely set, but not Jane. Not my theory, but a head-canon I have is that the Does moved to Midnight Hollow and changed their names because Joseph had killed someone in the town they previous lived in. He did it either by accident or intentionally, but I am leaning more on intentionally. In the long run his parents and sister found out. The parents helped cover up the murder, and the sister found out by easedropping on a conversation her parents were having about it, hence the neurotic trait she possesses, because she knows too much. When they made it to Midnight Hollow, the parents had the basement filled in, in hopes of preventing Joseph from continuing to kill.

  • @WyndeRiter
    @WyndeRiter Před 3 lety +34

    My theory is that the Does are a meta-commentary on society itself.
    The Does are the ideal family, that's it. There's no underlying secrets here. Nothing suspicious. It's all about our perceptions of what's normal and acceptable.
    Let's cover some oddities.
    Jane doesn't have any cooking skills but she has the talent for it and the desire to do so. It's not that unusual for women to put off their desires to raise a family and that seems to be what she's done here. Joseph is a teen, so John and Jane married young and started the family right away. John already knew how to cook, so he did it when they first got married, building up his skill a bit. Once John started making money, they ordered out in one way or another. This was John's way of spoiling Jane after taking care of the kids.
    So...why does he brag about her pot roast making skills in the interview? Simple. He's lying. It's clear from Jane's skillset that she'd burn salad, but the fact that they have to order out all the time is no one else's business. Jane feels ashamed for not having any cooking skills, so he made up this lie because he cares more about her feelings than anything else.
    Joseph's gardening skill being so high is a combo of two things. 1) He's a genius and 2) It may have been something to fill the time before he had siblings. Once Jennifer became a child and he had someone else to talk with at home, he lost interest in the garden so it was taken out.
    Not having a basement. My theory here is that it's chilly in Midnight Hollow so they filled in the basement to save on heating bills.
    So....why do they live in Midnight Hollow in the first place? I'd say it has to do with the schools. You've got a couple of genius kids who are getting C's. This tells me they're likely being challenged in a way they weren't in other schools.
    Why is Jennifer neurotic? Because sometimes kids are. Because even though the Does are the ideal family they're not perfect...just...societally ideal. Maybe her father's perfectionism is a bit much for her.
    And that's the ultimate in meta-commentary. Think about all of the eccentric townies in Midnight Hollow this is their society. Yet, if you brought them out of Midnight Hollow and put them into Sunset Valley, they'd stick out like a sore thumb and they'd be the suspicious ones. They could be just fine and normal on the inside...just look strange on th outside. In the Sims...the people are what you make of them and it doesn't have to match what kind of outfits you put on them or how ordinary, weird, or beautiful they look who they are is what they are...none of that other superficial stuff.
    But...the Does are the societal ideal. And, in reality, that societal ideal is creepy as hell to the rest of us who don't fit into it.

    when I learned of the Doe family, I immediately thought of an episode of the Magnus Archives about a college professor who slowly comes to realize he’s teaching anatomy to a group of mimics who are learning how to fake being human better through his lessons. every student has a name that’s a different countries version of the term “John Doe”, and they seem human at first, just… off. it makes me think that maybe the Doe family in Midnight Hollow is something similar - a family of mimics, except instead of learning how to be more human, they’re faking humanity SO WELL that it becomes suspicious.
    this could explain why Joseph looks so much like Ethan Bunch; the thing that became Joseph based his current identity off of Ethan. for extra creep points, maybe their basement is filled in because they killed and replaced whoever lived there before, burying the bodies in the basement to keep the authorities from finding out. hell, it could even explain the family’s odd behaviour in the interview!! they couldn’t answer the question about why they moved to Midnight Hollow truthfully (since it would give away what they are) and they didn’t want the interviewer finding small hints of their inhumanity during a house tour, or god forbid any trace of the murders or the sealed basement, so they panic and at first try to deflect the interviewer’s attention to something else, then shut down the interview entirely when that doesn’t work.

    @judialbert1349 Před rokem +4

    Here's an idea: Jennifer is the "different" one. She might have witnessed a murder of a friend or something and the murder was tied to a crime syndicate. This made Jennifer neurotic. I like the witness protection idea, and would imagine the family was pressured to have Jennifer testify in order to put a crime boss behind bars, then the family went into witness protection. The high writing skill could be because she was in therapy and this was a way for her to express herself and work through the trauma. Joseph, being a teen and probably having lots of friends he was forced to cut ties with, is resentful of the situation, but loves his sister, and doesn't blame her. He's just having trouble adjusting. James is too little to be affected by the change. John was probably brought up by a really controlling, goal-oriented, and possibly abusive parent, so this is how he feels a household should be and has high expectations for his wife and kids. Jane is co-dependent, probably raised by an alcoholic and had to care for them and the house. She never had educational opportunities because of this and is a people pleaser, willing to be anything John wants her to be in order to avoid conflict.

The family struggled to have kids for years and resorted to kidnapping baby Joseph; he doesn't remember, but the lie lead to a lot of teen angst and confusion about why he doesn't belong like the others. While playing in the family basement, Jennifer found proof that Joseph was kidnapped and approached her mom...so her mom and dad demolished the basement and swore her to secrecy through emotionally abusive threats (you don't want your brother taken away do you? Okay I'm not gonna lie the interview freaked me out, I have no idea why but it reminded me of those poorly made Sims 2 horror stories people made

    I've read the Lady Killer graphic novel and it's really good I did think about them being based on the Stepford Wives before it was mentioned.

    The one thing I find weird is John Jane's names because in a hospital if they dont know a patient's name they them John Doe if it's a man and Jane Doe if it's a woman so are those really their names.

    theory before i watch the video, John and Jane Doe’s are often the name given to unidentifiable corpses. so obviously they’re all dead and either don’t know or don’t want to accept it, living him oblivious bliss. Ok so onto my theory..
    The son has a a very high gardening skill, what i think is he murdered the family and buried then in their basement and then killed himself. Something weird happened and their house ends up in Midnight Hollow and they’re all “alive” again.
