🚨For clarity purpose🚨 : TS4 overall graphics obviously look better than TS2 simply because it is the most recent game.
However TS2 uses really detailed & complex technology for its time.
They did the best with what they had & it paid off considering how it beats TS4 in many graphic details, as shown in this video.
On the contrary it is blatant that TS4 doesn't take full advantages of the technologies availabe for todays games, especially considering it came out in 2014!

Comparing TS4 with TS2 only shows that using newer technology is one thing, but talent and passion are more important.
@@Kazeira they also made a great choice with art direction in TS2. This game still looks amazing with some default CC skin and lightning mod. Animations in this game are absolutely beautiful and lively
sims 4 look like the My Sims games, like everything is made out of dough
@@ember9361 At least My Sims is going for cute stylized art style. Unlike Sims 4...
Honestly I hate how EA is trying to make Sims 4 accessible to the worst PCs out there, it's so unfair to us simmers with higher end PCs since we get a severe lack of content and ugly graphics in return.
TS2 was a labour of love and passion project. TS4 is a soulless, bland, and unloved cash grab.
Fr it's so obv
And TS5 will be even worse, at this point Life By You, InZOI and Paralives could take over the life Sim genre if EA keeps on doing the bare minimum for everything.

what really blows me away in the Sims 2 is that the pizzas are divided in 8 slices that can be clicked individually. The sim will take that specific slice and that exact slice will be missing from the box afterwards.
I think the chessboard thing is even more incredible (comparing it with TS4).
You can perfectly identify what each piece is, the Sims pick them up and move them individually, they're in the specific place where the sim left them. They don't disappear or teleport, the board doesn't change as if several pieces had been moved at the same time.
It has different game animations and children climb on books to play.
@@chitose4199 yes!
@@chitose4199 I remember reading someone say that the Sims in Sims 2 do ACTUAL chess plays, not just random moves
@@claralima1967 If you watch TS4 (I don't know about TS3 too), the sims take the pieces and leave them anywhere on the board. These pieces reappear in a different place, while others also move or disappear as if they had been eliminated (even on the first move).
I don't know if TS2 follow any kind of playing technique, not that I understand much about chess, but if you watch them play, It's like you really watching a chess game.
@@claralima1967 Yup, they did. And the meaner sims would also cheat at chess!
not to mention THE HAIR MOVEMENT IN TS2
Absolutely!
Sims 3 didnt have any hair physics or pool physics either so if you wanna hate on the sims 4 for not having those things than you should call out the the sims 3 as well I'm just saying xd
@@BeautyQueen2023Xjust completely missing the point to be a pendant about irrelevant stuff
@@BeautyQueen2023X Is this video about the Sims 3 though? No. And because you want to put Sims 3 on the same level as 4, it was actually less detailed than 2 but was still way more detailed than 4.
It had physics! s4 literally could not
Also, the aims 4 is super quiet compared to all of the older games. The sims rarely make any noise at all and it's a little weird. In the sims 2, you can even hear the neighborhood dogs barking at night. I love it.
My favourite one is the creepy "unknown" noises around gravestones at night. I actually got scared the first time... I thought he will come out as a zombie... 😅
Don't know if you remember it, but back when the Sims 2 released, before it even had dogs and cats, you'd still hear those dogs barking! You couldn't have one yet, and there was no guarantee dogs would ever be in-game, but it still added to the atmosphere of living in a neighborhood where there were other people, some of whom would definitely have dogs.
Not to mention the humming of the PC, the fridge, crickets chirping at night, birds in daytime etc. Ambient sound is barely heard, but it is noticeable when it is missing!
@@brassbucklesBarking sound was added with Pets EP.
Sims 4 so bland. It's like there is either nothing happening at all or everything is happening at once. Random stuff like vampires showing up to my door is cool and all but if I've just been sitting there doing nothing but spamming the same exact success or fail animation for the past 40 mins because the game is borderline grindy I'm just not going to be up for it. I want something more down to earth like noticing for the first time that when the children jump on the couch the cushions move up and down.
I'm so sorry... but I can't get over the ... st*pid constant smiling of the sims in Sims 4... 😂

The way sims in Sims 4 look around and their eyes is very... weird. It's like they're constantly on happy drugs, they don't look alive at all, jesus
Thier actions and atittude is way too off putting
Not to mention when they fucking go texting all the time while they walk from one point to another. Annoying af
They look cartoonish and creepy. The movements are so over exaggerated. Give me smaller, finer details any day!
Ugh, tell me about it!
I cannot stand how they always have that dumb smile on their faces all the time. The super repetitive idle giggles and whatnot also get annoying so fast.
@@lug358I hate the constant texting!! I have a granny Sim and it so off putting to see her doing that. A teen is fine, but an old lady? Come on!!
Can't relate when people say "want x and y from sims 2 and 3, but graphics like Sims 4". It's so weirdly cartonish, bland and everything has low resolution. Let's not even mention the jumpy animations and ugly, constant smiles. Made me resent my own sims when I played Sims 4.
Hell, in Sims 2 you even hear buzzing from electronics during night which makes it feel more alive.
Yeah these jumpy animations combined with the incessant smiling & random onomatopoeia really makes it seem like they are on heavy medication 💀💀
I love how TS4 cas is very flexible in terms of sliders, but TS2 has everything I love and need graphics-wise. If I could have Sims 2 and 3 combined with best of it's features I'd be forever happy
Idd rather have the sims from the sims 2 or 4 than the pudding faces looking sims from the sims 3 oops
the Sliders from TS4 would be decent if they worked as they should, Body Sliders were quite a nice commodity that I do miss going back to the earlier games, but I Do miss the Gameplay of the Earlier titles...and how Sims AREN'T Trying to drink 500 Cups of Water, Tea or Coffee til they Pee themselves, or playing on a computer for 2 days straight til they get out their chair and die
Same!!
Also, in The Sims 2 there are hair physics, couch cushion physics and pool physics. Mind blowing!
very sad that only Sims 2 has pool physics
I understand that couch physics and hair physics would've been really hard to implement in the later games due to different hair models and couch models but pool physics... From what I heard it's an animation so it's so easy to add that into the later games yet EA didn't add them.
Sims 3 didnt have any hair physics or pool physics either so if you wanna hate on the sims 4 for not having those things than you should call out the the sims 3 as well I'm just saying xd
@@BeautyQueen2023XSims 3 brought in so much to the game graphics that these little things just do not matter that much...For example Sims 3 worlds are just beautiful... and they really feel alive.

the grass texture in ts4 💀💀💀

The first thing that put me off the game, the radioactive grass
Carpet in Sims 4 looked like someone spilled paint on the sidewalk and it dried up.
I don't even understand why everyone thinks that Sims 4 has the best graphics, it literally looks like a mobile game.
Sims 2 had the best furniture models and sims while Sims 3 had the best environment lighting and atmosphere, there is literally nothing that Sims 4 did better in terms of graphics.
The sims 3 graphics are fucking ugly and so are the sims people only like the game because of the open world and stupid color wheel
Oh please the sims 3 graphics were ugly as well and the sims in the sims 4 looks way better than the sims 3 sims you all only like the sims 3 because of the open world and color wheel but everything else sucks
@Queen2023X If you're just going to complain about Sims 3, don't reply to my comment. I do not want toxic entitled Sims 2 simmers who spend no time looking into what Sims 3 did good replying to my comments.
Don't assume things too! If I saw someone say that they preferred Sims 2 over Sims 3, I would be fine with it, but if they're saying things like "No no, stop defending Sims 3 because it's trash", or "You guys only like Sims 3 because of Open World and Color Wheel", it's just unacceptable.
I actually think the CAS and Sims body shapes are best in Sims 4, but I miss how exaggerated you could make their features in Sims 2. Texture-wise, Sims 4 is seriously lacking, though at least some of that is intentional since it released almost ten years ago and was meant to run on low-end computers even then. I'm not a fan of the anime style hair, but I don't hate it as much as some others do.
I still play and enjoy Sims 4, but I also sometimes go back to both Sims 2 and 3 because they have other things to offer that they did better than the Sims 4. Sims 2 had the most attention to detail in its objects and animations. I remember being disappointed with Sims 3 compared to the Sims 2 when it first came out, but by the time several expansions had released, it had come into its own. Despite its flaws, I feel like Sims 4 is finally kind of getting to a point where it has some worthwhile gameplay. It's not as deep as Sims 2 or 3, but it can be enjoyed.

TS4: YES, Hello I am A Sim! I am in a Happy moodlet of Doing a Thing! Because I have emotions, see? I'm not sure what emotions are, so I'll smile just in case you will miss the Emotion happening!
the emotions system is the reason why sims in sims 4 are dumb as hell.
Omg yes! I knew something was off but I couldn’t put it into words
Honestly the emotion system seemed like a really nice concept but they really executed it horribly in Sims 4, I feel like the best way to implement it is by combining moodlets and emotions.
I mean... when they've announced the new emotion system, I was like... "But... Sims always had emotions..." Sims 1 Sims cry if they are in a bad mood, Sims 2 sims express a variety of emotions depending on their recent happenings in their lives, Sims 3 even included moodlets so we can check their feelings...
I remember watching the "Gameplay" of the Sims 4... feeling empty and cringe after it... Felt like watching a cartoon and not a sneak peak into a complex life sim...😅
I think they'd have been better off with 5 starting traits, more variety in trait personalities, less focus on emotions, and Sims 2 style memories in Sims 4. By which I mean to say, memories would get recorded but not in a way that devours the game's memory (which is why those of us who played Sims 3 usually turned off memories entirely, only taking specific ones if we used the feature at all). Memories still exist in Sims 4, but it's basically a forgotten feature that hardly anyone seems to use. Anyway my point is, with more focus on who a character is and the life they've lived, a character seems more alive. Emotions are part of people, but people are not just walking emotions. People are made of their traits and experiences, and emotions follow those.
Sims 2 was peak Sims. Will Wright at the helm, a passion project filled with love. Then we got Sims 3 and omg even more awesome and hello? Sims Medieval? 👌 And then it died.
Whenever people say Sims 2 graphics are outdated, please watch this video before you judge.
For me Sims 2 still looks good without mods. 20 years later it still holds up!
I play it without mods and still enjoy it so much. Sims have a lot of expression and movement, even their hair has graphics.
Besides, after a while of playing the sims 2, those "aged graphics" stop bothering you cuz the game is actually fun to play with.
On the other hand, the sims 4 dont look that good, are lazy animated, the lack expressions they just made them goofy af all the time, i hate that they walk anywhere with their phone texting... and the game is boring af after 10 mins of gameplay, also nothing works and you have to pretend like things are happening in the sims 4. It is a scam game not to mention all the overpriced packs.

The graphics being outdated doesn't mean it doesn't look good, though. Technically, the graphics of Shovel Knight are outdated, since it's... well, pixel art. But the game is gorgeous.
The beauty of the Sims 2 lies in the details (and also one's art style preference, of course).
2 holds up better than 3 or 4 as 3 was too uncanny valley and 4 looks like it wants to be like tf2 without the effort
Since you mentioned the floor texture: sound of your sim's footsteps changes depending on the floor. That's a really nice touch there
It also changes depending on what shoe type was coded into the clothing
Alot of older games did that. Unlike nowadays where if you can't see it with your eyeballs or it's easy to miss then it's not important.
9:07 fun fact the sims 2 had reflective flooring in the beta but due to performance issues they scrapped it. game was truly beyond its time.
planar reflections were well known and established by 2004. It causes issues because you're literally rendering everything twice from different angles. Half-Life 2, released around the same time, also limited reflections to water only (like pools in sims 2). It's nothing unusual for the time, really.
Why is no one talking about the Sim looking back and forth between the keyboard and computer screen? Like I do that so much in real and it's so accurate. The way the Sims in Sims 4 constantly look at the screen is something I never really paid attention to until now.
And why is EA obsessed with making the Sims 4 so dark???
And the fact that in the sims 2 she doesn't even smile, it's much more realistic.
@@justme_aleksandra literally, the only time I smile at my computer is when I watch something funny and that's it. Anything else, I'm staring blankly at the screen

@@cendresaphoenix1974 my least favourite thing about Sims 4 is when they burst into laughter while literally doing nothing or while they're eating. Like stop!
One detail i love in TS2 is how vending machines will cast light, and the color will match the color of the machine. It looks so nice at night!
Fr every texture in sims 4 looks flat and in low resolution and sims hair look like on a head of Lego human xD
Sims 2 somehow managed to keep realistic graphics while not being overly realistic and sims 4 has just plastic and cartoonish style.
Also it wasn't shown in here but pool water in sims 2 vaporize when it's cold
The flat look was a style choice. They wanted cartoon/anime-looking Sims, and minimalist textures enabled the game to run on lower-end computers on release.
But some of the clothing is blurry, and some of it is extremely detailed in a way that looks odd with Sims who otherwise look more like cel-shaded cartoons.
Also, even the textures on child and up Sims look better than the food textures, the baby textures, the trash textures... So the lack in those areas is really egregious.
from the moment sims 4 launched in 2014, i never felt that attraction i felt from sims 2 or 3. i don’t even play sims 4 because of how soulless it is

You missed the fact that hairstyles in ts2 are *animated*. Most cc creators don't match that even if cc otherwise is often more detailed.
The Sim 2 looked this good right from the very beginning. On top of that, it had great gameplay which kept getting better. I don't even know what the money was spent on when they developed TS4 - it clearly wasn't graphics or basic-level game elements.
Making it an MMO...
I seem to recall it was originally meant to be always-online, but the always-online Sim City reboot had released to intense criticism and a lot of players were dissatisfied. EA took the hint and decided to make the Sims 4 an offline single-player game, which... is what people tend to want when they play the Sims. The weird thing about that TS4 baby is if you really look at the two babies side-by-side, you can see that the TS4 baby has a higher-poly mesh. Why, then, did they give it a lower-resolution texture than in Sims 2? They had to know that people tend to zoom in and take closeup pics of their Sims' babies.
@@brassbuckles I honestly don't know why they did that, but it seems like TS4 could've looked a LOT nicer. 🙃

TS2 also had much larger object texture sizes. TS4 often maxes objects out at 512x512, TS2's average is double that
Its because its engine was never designed to be able to run a proper version of the game. The Sims 4 was planned to be an online game, with MMO features like The Sims 1 with Sims FreePlay concepts. The limited textures may have been put there to allow the game to load easily.

The sims 2 graphics have so much charm, while sims 4 just look soulless (like the whole game)
Sims 4 babies are cursed.
I lost it at the food lmaaaaooooo
With Sims 4, some things have a higher polygon count and a higher resolution for textures, but other things have a weirdly low resolution and/or poly count (like the food and trash) and the overall style is intentionally minimalist. Sims 2 was exaggerated/cartoony, but generally more detailed.
One thing that struck me was that although some of the images you showed have a better poly count/seem smoother in Sims 4, the textures were often far worse, especially on smaller objects. Babies, for instance, seemed to have more polygons/smoother edges in Sims 4 than in Sims 2, but the textures used are terribly low-res. By contrast, the ceiling lights you showed seemed to have smoother edges in Sims 2, which is odd. And despite the Sims 2 plates having less jagged edges, they didn't have any further details. I did think the texture for water in Sims 4 looked better, even if the shaders and reflections weren't as detailed and well-done as in Sims 2.
Sims 2 was superior in terms of sheer level of detail. The animations were great, too. Sims had more detailed animations when performing actions such as cooking. Would love to see how some of its items, animations, and lighting effects compare to Sims 3 in a side-by-side, also.
I'd guess that part of the low detail on items and lighting in Sims 4 is because the team was for some reason not granted the manpower or budget to put that kind of detail in. That may be partly because the Sims 4 was originally conceived of as a fully online and possibly mobile or mobile hybrid game (which also explains a bit about the UI), and part of it was likely because the team didn't think details on smaller items would matter since they assumed players wouldn't be zooming in on them much. You can really tell that the Sims 2 team deeply cared about the details and how the game would be received. The Sims 1 had been a massive success, but there was no guarantee at that time that the Sims 2 would share that success. Then by the time the Sims 4 was worked on, it was created by a much smaller team mostly because all previous mainline Sims games had been successful. Sims 4 had no competition other than previous entries in the franchise, so it was more or less a guaranteed success no matter what the team did.
I actually play and enjoy the Sims 4, and I think now that it has some more content both in base game and expansions than it had on release, there are some things it does better than previous games. But I still find myself going back to Sims 2 and Sims 3 and my reasons tend to involve gameplay and detail more than nostalgia.
It concerns me that the developers have made it clear they intend to make the next Sims a mobile crossover. Even with a separate graphical environment on PC, it's still meant to be multiplayer and microtransactional, and will likely have toned-down graphics even on the PC version. Hopefully Paralives and Life By You will be competitive enough to force EA to do more than the bare minimum for their next Sims game and I'll be proven wrong. But as far as loyalty to the Sims? I don't really have any if someone else releases a superior product that does all or most of the same things.
everything in TS4 looks like plastic😭
Water in TS2 has an actual PHYSICS... 2004 game has better PHYSICS ENGINE! 2004 GAME VS 2014 GAME WITH SUPPORT TO THIS DAY, COME ON
Hopefully, Paralives takes inspiration from the first three Sims games. I also hope they use TS4 as a valuable lesson on what not to do.
Doubt it, sims 5 is planned to do what the Sims 4 originally set up as, exist as a multiplayer game
you have an incredible eye for detail, been playing sims 2 for like 20 years now and i never noticed half of these details!
And if you put items from TS4 to TS2 they look even better!
True, although I don't really do it that often with clothes... I find some clothes in the Sims 4... a bit too much
I will say I do like the instant light effect in Sims 4's build/buy mode, because it instantly shows you what the room lighting looks like depending where you place it. Everything else in Sims 2 is top tier though
Sims 2 had will wright and rod humble - my sims daddies😂 I still play sims 2 and will be following rod humbles new project like a hawk
Well I think TS2 and TS4 use different game styles hence the lack of texture or depth...
The lack of casting or light from objects that naturally emit radiation is just unforgivable.
Sims 2 is the greatest sims to DATE. Much more fun than sims 4 even with base game only compared to Sims 4’ spam of EPs
Sims 2 was superior in almost every way. It had heart and every expansion was worth every penny. It was amazing! Sims 4 doesn't have heart or soul, just packs of the same objects over and over that costs tons of money and they aren't even functional.
I swear Sims 2 is just leagues better than Sims 4
I'm going to play the sims 2 again.
Random thing I learned about the Sims 2 a few nights ago.
My sim was out late on the town and needed a ride home. They called for a taxi around 2am. Nothing. They called again around 3:30. Nothing. They called 1 more time closer to 4:20 and finally got a ride home.
Something like that would have been a problem 2 decades ago! 😂
I can't believe TS2 is 20 years old. I mean.. I'm not even 30 and I was playing it obsessively when it came out. It feels so ahead of its time, even to this day. Sims 4 on the other hand... Great gowns, beautiful gowns.
Don’t forget the hair in sims 2 moves at bit too.
Paralives, Life By You and inZOI are finally giving this niche genre some much needed competition.
TS3 had the best graphics overall. Most details trees, shadows, reflections, etc. If only they stopped being so lazy
The sims 2 was really a game they were looking forward to, trying to show the public how far the life sim games could go and how much potential they could have in the future. When they reached sims 3, they even went higher with open worlds, but the sims 4, it is clear that it was a failure from the start, they published an unfinished game thats been 10 years in the making and it still is trash. I have been playing sims 2 exclusivelly lately and havent touched sims 4 in many months, last time i played was with the infant update.
The sims 2 and 3 will always be better, and its great that there are still communities that make mods for these trully good games. I enjoy building in the sims 4 but thats not what you play the sims for. In the sims 2 or 3 i can be hours playing without noticing, playing the sims 4 i start a family, create the sims, build a house and then do gameplay for 10mins. So boring.
That TS4 baby is giving undead Benjamin Button vibes.
I pointed this out elsewhere, but if you really look at it, it's even weirder how low res the texture is, because the mesh looks smoother (higher polygon count) than the Sims 2 one, while at the same time the texture looks so much lower-quality and blurrier. It makes no sense. Why even bother with a better mesh if you're not going to have a better texture?
I guess TS4 was going for a more cartoony art style? But who the heck would want that in a game ment to be like real life? Not me!
I totally agree with you. Sims 2-3 best combined, but the 4 is a fucking fool. I bought every packaging since two years ago now I’m not even playing the game anymore when I used to be so addicted when I was younger
i might be living in the sims4 :D the ingredients also disappear when i cancel my cooking and my fridge doesn't produce light hshaha
Another fabulous video! I love that you do these. All the details the original Maxis team put in are freakin fabulous! Sims 2 definitely best game! :D I hope this new Maxis team watches and studies your videos!!
EA stopped putting their heart in after sims 2
after sims 3* sims 3 is really good. It's flawed but a beautiful flawed magical game
and you can still play it and never getting bored because how creative that game is.@@augustinesim1672
@@augustinesim1672Sims 3 is fucking overrated
@@KenyagirlyCan you please state your reasons instead of saying just that?
@@Atsuhiko8888 I dont need no reason the game is fucking overrated only because it has open world and a color wheel but the sims and the graphics look ugly as hell lmao
Sims 2 didn't have better graphics, it had better ATTENTION TO DETAIL. Two very different things.
i effing luv ur videos u deserve way more subscribers omg
At first I was like OMG how dare you but then I watched ur vid and I was like OMG you are so right , loving those details and attention sprinkled here & there
If one covered everything, this video would be over an hour…
I’m glad & lucky to have all 4 games.
I love both The Sims 2 and 3 but ultimately I end up feeling more for my Sims in Sims 2. I think they just had more subtle touches to the animations, more expressive ones too. I remember playing 3 for the first time and being disappointed because the animations looked comparatively a bit lifeless compared to their Sims 2 counterparts. But I loved it regardless, and it's miles ahead of The Sims 4 in that regard too, 4 Sims look like creepy Stepford Wives.
And thats why I prefer a realistic look over a cartoony look in the sims. The realistic look of sims 2 and 3 might have not aged well and cartoony is kind of timeless, but putting effort in a game just creates the better feeling, even when technologie moves on.
Yep there is so much more love in sims 2 than in sims 4. It was a time when they wanted to create a game that was fun.
Also impressive considering most of The Sims 2 had to be rebuilt from the ground up after a huge server fire and continues to be the best sims game!
I bought an external DVD rom to play sims 2 and was actually really blown away at how well the graphics are still holding up in 2024. Honestly such a great game with such a legacy
TS2 is the better Sims game in ALL aspects, if it was open world it was going to be the perfect sims.
At least you could place lots and build neighborhoods... TS4 is so pathetic with it's neighborhoods and paper art sprite, they're not even 3D.
In TS2 if you used a TV or radio in a room with a sleeping person they would wake up to scream at you for it and throw a fit about it. I think even playing games on the computer might have done so as well but I don't remember now.
Thank you for this video!!
i can’t even imagine how mindblown people were when sims 2 first came out in 2004
