About Sarah being a rabid fan, in my game i have found that with story progression turned on, unemployed sims will go into the athletic career without me doing anything. I don't know if her job is an intentional feature.

Without mods, inactive sims tend to be shoved into random jobs if they don't already have one.
My theory: Catarina and Sarah are *both* based on Sally and Catarina was created by Synapse, but after she fell in love with Jack (which he didn't expect), he decided to study love and kidnapped Sarah. Maybe after that, Jack met Cat through her work.

Maybe farfetched but Catarina might represent christmas? Like Jack being torn between his love for Catarina (christmas/toys) and Sarah (Sally). Her name is kinda similar to the word christmas as well. 😄

Katarina seems like a reference to Barbie the Doll. Jack's love of toys, of which the Barbie doll is, may be a reference to this, as well. Katarina may see Jack as her "Ken", causing a love triangle, in the process.
There's a scrapped ending of The Nightmare Before Christmas which had it where Oogie Boogie was actually Dr. Finkelstein all along, apparently, he hated the fact that Sally loved Jack and not him. Maybe they kind of based it on that? Also, it’s a Christmas and Halloween movie.
I think sally was originally supposed to be a love interest as well

@@missundies It was originally planned to be an online game but that aspect was scrapped late in development so a bunch of stuff had to be hastily put together resulting in a lack of depth in gameplay, including the lore

I think that Catherina was also made by Synapse as that would explain the second badroom in his house. He maybe fell in love with her and when she rejected him, he wanted to study love and kidnaped Sarah. My other theory is that Catherina liked Jack but maybe she tought that she wasnt pretty enough like her dolls so she went to Synapses house where she stayed untill she healed (which again can explain second badroom) and he probably asked her why she wanted to look like a doll and when she told him he decided to kidnap Sarah and learn about love
Maybe Jack had an Imaginary Friend that was Catarina (would help explain her doll-like appearance) and she struck out on her own after Jack fell in love with Sarah more than he loved her?

Nightmare Before Christmas is obviously both but I see it as a Halloween movie because it is a scary take on Christmas, not a jolly take on Halloween. However Disneyland's Haunted Mansion Holiday (aka Nightmare Before Christmas: the Ride) is definitely a Christmas ride because its a Christmas take on the Haunted Mansion. If you seen a deleted scene, supposedly Dr. Finkelstein was supposed to be Oogie Boogey who was in love with Sally but they ended up cutting it out. So I guess that’s where the developers got the idea that Dr.S hates Jack or is enemies with Jack

Katarina reminds me of a movie character who had her privates sewed up and her appearance altered to be like a doll or something like that. In the film, I think the character was sexually abused by her father and thought by being a doll she couldn't be sexualized? I can't really remember it

I think Jack was with Katarina but her growing obsession with dolls and her making herself look like doll could scare him enough to look for someone else.
Idk if someone has already said this but maybe Synapses made Katerina and modeled her after a doll to distract Jack from taking Sarah from him. It explains Katerina's love for Jack being based on him solely being a toy collector.
When i play sims 3 as a child never cross in my mind to explore all the households and find their story, now i want to play it again so badly to find all the lore 🤧

Sarah reminds me a lot of Christine in The Phantom of the Opera, especially with her story. The Phantom attempts to kidnap Christine and make her fall in love with him. Notably, the first actress to play Christine (and the wife of Andrew Lloyd Webber) is Sarah Brightman.
I feel like the whole Midnight Hollow storyline and lore with these 4 sims is a mix of a bunch of different influences, with Nightmare Before Christmas and Barbie definitely being some, but I think Phantom also plays a role.
Whenever I play with Jack I always have him save Sarah, then marry them. Then I have them have a child, whom I usually name after a Tim Burton character. 🤪

9:22 Sally wasn't made by him. She had been kidnapped by him from a dream realm just as Sarah who resembles her. This information wasn't in the Nightmare before Christmas, but there was a official story about her that confirms doctor Finkelstein hadn't created her

When i play this household, i usually make sarah fall in love with dr synapse because he begin to treat her better by giving her a room instead of the cellar and act better, like beauty and the beast story, but also because she realise that jack start to forget her for katarina. I even could married sarah and synapse once and had children.

My twisted theory.... what if Jack and Catarina were made made by synapse to feel "love" but he couldnt, so he kidnapped Sarah.... Its waay too odd for 2 sims like Jack and Cat to have similar tastes and are alone af and have doll dungeon.. or is is their replica of THE dungeon from Synapse ?
Guys, Katarina might be based off of the “living Barbie doll” girl that was going around the Internet around the time this came out 😂😱 Her name is Valeria Lukyanova and she looks just like her and is married to her own plastic surgeon. And Dr.Synapse just happens to want to perform a dissection on her.

Ive always thought that Katarina was made by the doctor, or was *tweaked* by the doctor. She clearly doesn’t look like a natural sim, and she also seems to be comparing herself heavily to Sarah and her “perfection.” I wonder if she’s worried Sarah might make a better doll than her in her creators eyes?

Maybe instead of Jack making Katarina, Dr Synapse made her to distract Jack from trying to rescue Sarah and as a way to break Sarah's heart but showing her how easy it was for her to be forgotten so she's be a more well behaved prisoner and wouldn't try to escape. He's decently high in the medical career and with how Katarina looks like a living doll he's have the know how to alter her appearance to make her look the way she does so she'd be eye catching and irresistible to toy lover Jack.

In my opinion, Nightmare Before Christmas is a Halloween movie. It mainly stars ‘Halloween characters’, including the main, the love interest, and the villain. It also isn’t a new concept to mash random holidays with Christmas. Rankin & Bass basically did that for all of their non-Christmas specials, with the humorous speculation being that, had the studio not shut down, they would have made Nightmare Before Christmas completely on accident. And if people consider all of those as ‘Easter/New Years/Saint Patrick’s Day/etc.’ specials, despite the reliance on Christmas imagery and characters, then I consider Nightmare Before Christmas to be a Halloween movie. Though, the argument is there, and there aren’t many connections to Christmas in the games (aside from the Santa/Father Winter/Winterfest thing), so I kind of commend you for keeping the theme at all.
I want katrina jack and shara to come back in sims 4. Maybe jack and sarah had children that are the stand ins for lock shock and barrel. Idk just sounds fun.
Ok hear me out, what if Katarina Stewart is the other mother from coraline? She perfect, had a DOLL collection and in the movie the other mother gets coraline attention is by giving her a dolll and tries to convince her to sew buttons over her eyes, Katarina has giant eyes like a doll 🤔🤔

perhaps Katerina was created by Synapse as part of his investigations on love - he studied Sarah's brain and when he thought he had enough information he created what he thought would be a perfect love interest for people - Katerina. She was the one who lived in the other room.
Only Katerina was not perfect. Instead of being loving and sweet, she's obsessed with this idea of perfection, and a love that is only skin (or doll) deep. She didn't have much of personality outside of being this doll, and Synapse realised she was not the perfection that he had sought, and therefore more study was necessary. He sent Katerina away (perhaps after wiping her memory) and continued his studies on Sarah, hoping to one day get the complete understanding he has been seeking.
Sara being friends w count olaf is really odd and interesting 😂 i wonder if they jus chose random citizens as her friends or they meant sth by it
yeah but it is also possible that they are based on Corpse bride too because the protagonist Victor does fall for two girls like one who is alive and human like him Victoria Everglot , but also fall in love with Emily who is a corpse.

Sarah has the personality of a young teen girl aimed show's female protagonist. She's also one of the most beautiful sims I've seen in sims 3 which fits that description as well.
Love this storyline! Its based off one of my fave Christmas movies!! I actually played them (as jack) a long time ago! Might have to go and play them again!

I think the second bedroom is Sarah’s and the dungeon is for when she gets caught by rodrick doing something bad and he punishes her. I think that’s what happens in the films anyway
