- Welcome to the breakdown where we breakdown some of the crazier films to ever be released! Today we are looking at a classic in serial killer based films titled Angst! Directed by Gerald Kargl, we see a loosely realistic story where a killer is released only to have the itch to wreak havoc upon victims! Not too extreme, but disturbing nonetheless. What you do is stressful as hell, man. You're literally committed to watching some of the most upsetting films out there. It makes total sense that you'd need to take breaks! I'll always be happy to watch your videos, whenever they're up. And I'd rather you be doing okay than stressing yourself out just so I have something to watch...take breaks whenever you need to!

Saw this one. My biggest interrogation throughout the whole movie: "Why the hell does he crawl around so much? Can't he walk around normally?"
Maybe it shows that he's closer to animal than human?
@@xakirax_8864 could be that. It just jumped to me that he couldn't walk or run properly for a majority of the movie and just crawled everywhere when he attacked the family.
Maybe to Symbolize his mad Uncontrollable behavior ?
@@pw2096 Yupp exactly. The guy is literally going through a mental rampage; he can't even think straight.
His body was pulling him towards his victims, the wobbling was caused by his brains- a part of it atleast (trying to fight its master, the body from commiting
I wonder if the family’s awkward and almost non existent reactions were an intentional decision. Since the movie is kind of playing out in main character’s mind, could their blank faces and lack of reaction be the character’s delusions as well? Since he would clearly have some extreme anti social personality issues, maybe he legitimately cannot perceive/understand emotion.
that's also how i took it. for me the point where that became apparant was when the killer drags the daughter to the kitchen to get the pills for the mother and in the voice-over he says something like how "she must have liked him". right after that, she's randomly licking/kissing him a few times as they both struggle, which feels so out of place unless you take it as being stuck in the protagonist's head type of thing.

loved this movie but i think it mostly is very surreal with a very theatrical touch
it also sucks that on the dvd I own there is a interview with the director gerald kargl but the questions the interviewer asks are so stupid
i would love to know what his true vision was besides making something as he stated in that interview

you know what I love, that in the end he still never got what he wanted, those surprised expressions, you see, if they were surprised, then that would mean that for a moment they thought he was "human" one of them, the surprised faces would have been the calling card of his humanity....but no one was surprised...no one was shocked...no one gave him the vindication that he was indeed human...
honestly i wonder if that's why they made his victims towards the end look so unphased?
I also loved the disabled son metaphor for him. Im just really curious on what the dog was supposed to represent.
@@oscarmeldgaard5407 Yeah, otherwise I would claim that the main character doesn't want to harm the dog because it's an animal but in the prologue it is revealed that he decapitated a swan in a park earlier before going to prison. In the soundtrack album, there's a bonus track called Silent Survivor that obviously refers to the dog. Could be that he was amazed how the dog was more loyal to him than the owners, and that's why he spared it.

This film is currently showed at cinema in Tokyo.
I just watched it last Saturday, while its violence and monologues of the killer himself are disturbing, its cinematography is definitely superb for its time, and still looks fresh today.

This is one of Gaspar Noe's favorite films and had a big influence in his style, especially in his earlier work.
The picture quality is beautiful.
That big house doesn't look lived in, I was waiting for them to be freaks too.
I always end up watching these kinds of movies when I can't sleep. Idk why; I remember seeing this one sleepless night and it was just depressing. I think they're probably addictive for some reason. Serial killer movies, because there's no sense to be made of these people so the fascinating question's never answered yet.

There's something about these movies and your breakdown. I have no idea but they help to calm me down. I found your channel a year ago while I was going through some tough times. It helped a lot. Hey spooky! I love your breakdowns and wanted to suggest you the German movie "Tore Tanzt" it is based on real life events. That film didn't left me after the credits. I have a hard skin for messed up films etc. But that one shows the messed up nature of humans. So I had to think a lot about that film after I have seen it. I highly recommend that one to you. You might realy like it :) keep up the great work and all the best to you!

I watched this film for the first time last night, and what a trip it was. The cinematography is outstanding and it pretty much gives you the perspective from the killer, which is probably what the director intended. Erwin Leder's performance is very good and quite memorable. If you haven't seen this film, do yourself a favour and watch it.

"Angst" in English means a feeling of deep anxiety or dread. It's pretty clear this character is constantly unhinged.
