Audition is about Aoyama who wants to find a new woman to love. He uses an acting audition to weed out the girls he doesn't like, but the one he chooses is a few screws loose! Yep! It was very much implied that she wanted him and was in love with him. Hence why she got annoyed at him when he didn't react the way she wanted him to.

I was actually kinda rooting for the dad to hook up. Kinda sad that he got tortured and permanently damaged for wanting a better life for him and his son.
There's a breakdown somewhere where it explains none of it is real, he just sees being with her is "torture" due to her past as being "baggage" his perfect view on her being tainted. She's not perfect like he idolised in his head.

Y’know it’s funny, the Japanese variation of “there’s plenty of fish in the sea” is actually “there’s more women/men than there are stars in the sky.” So I think the fishing scene, if there is a metaphor there, is probably more directly connected to the audition and “catching” a wife. Great vid as always.

I love this movie. It got me started on my quest to watch disturbing and messed up films. That final scene is a classic, but the scene where we see the bag rolling around is still one of the creepiest clips in cinematic history.
