  • This video took me a lot of work, and it is my first try at making a type of video essay
Most of the futage use is from the documentary Death of Nekojiru, but there is also parts from Nekojiru teather and cat soup
My main source of information was this interview: www.pelleas.net/aniTOP/index.p...
And also special thanks to blog of translating nekojiru translatingnekojiru.tumblr.co...
Most of the music came from the original Nekojiru website that is currently down, but you can still see it on the internet archive
the only song that didn't came from the website came from the coudtrack of cat soup
    My social media:
    Twitter: / beartrapinuwu
    Tumblr: www.tumblr.com/blog/beartrapi...
    Redbubble: www.redbubble.com/es/people/b...
    Deviantart: www.deviantart.com/beartrap-i...
The main reason I started this investigation was because after watching the movie I had dreams about Nekojiru hanging from the ceiling of my room.

reading the manga, I wonder why people were okay with publishing this and didn't question whether she was okay sooner

Even in the full documentary made after she died, all people seem to find it impossible, most japanese people don't really care about their well being, as long as your job gives you money, that is all that matters

The manga is genius. People should be much more than okay wirh publishing it. It enriched my life and my imagination. Also i imagine/draw wild stuff too but im not depressed so art doesnt actually tell you very much about a persons life.

She seemed like an sweet introvert who understood the suffering of life, so the cats reflects that inability to function within society. I mean she was kinda of a neet/hikikimori.

No a neet is someone who stays inside and plays video games and reads manga and is usually timid/shy and often single. She went outside all the time, had a husband, drew manga at cafes and was willing to say what she wanted to people (confrontational and assertive).

@@electricearth1101 yeah, she's more of a what people call "sociopath". strangely some think sociopaths can't feel strong and conflicting emotions (what is proven untrue)
nekojiru wasn't sweet at all, she didn't fuckin like it here and made sure people knew about it before life got too irksome to live through

Hello! I belatedly saw your comment on my piece about Cat Soup that was published on the Animation Studies 2.0 blog in 2019. It's always nice to see other people talk about Nekojiru.

Nekojiru's works were a cry for help heard by nobody in her time and country, and by the time it has reached the more understanding overseas lands it was too late. I can't imagine how much it was hurting her to be out of tune with everyone around her.

Yes, it is very heart breaking to watch the documentary made after she died, the people interviewed really find it impossible that she could end her life being that she was having sucess with her characters

I did some research and I think some source revealed from a small interview from either her husband or a personal friend that she didn’t care out being famous of her own work at all. It’s really sad when you look at her work and realize her mental health was starting to deteriorate more within the work and due to mental health stigma and inner demons, she tried to self medicate until she died. It’s really sad when looking back at it😔

Also to call her “cruel” is just inaccurate . She seemed like a somewhat decent human being . Just in her own world with her own demons

    • @beartrapinuwuland
      @beartrapinuwuland  Před rokem +12

For sure, when I say that she is cruel, it's more the way anyone outside her would see her, claiming that anyone is cruel leads to a judgemnt of character and those are usually extremly complex, people are complicated
