should be a quick video.. 47 minutes later!! love it lol
i know! lol....
Hey mate
Love your videos. Just an update as you mentioned that Ryco doesn't have a pre filter on the bottom of their Hilux fuel filters (R2619P), they have revised them a while back (I use Ryco on all my clients vehicles) and they have had pre filters on them now for at least a year but may be longer :)
The fine print on the Penrite Enviro+ full synthetic series oils (which is for DPF as well as non DPF engines)
says the 5W-40 is also “suitable where a 0W-40, 5W-30 and 10W-30 oils are recommended”. So that’s a Damm good oil IMO.
About 10 years ago they used to cost $80 per 5 litres. I’ve NEVER paid that price as I always stock up. I use either Genuine or Ryco filters...they were on special at Super Cheap Auto, so I bought 5 at $6 each! Damm cheap.
I also use the cheapest oil I can do do a engine oil flush every 50,000klms.
I also add Anti-wear oil AW-10. When reading up on their product it says it can hold twice the “soot load” compared to just using oil alone. Being able to carry abrasive soot limits the abrasive action on your engine.
I started doing this ever since 100,000 when we bought the vehicle which ALL services were done by Toyota. Hence I was confident I had an engine that was correctly serviced even though it was 4 year old when purchased.
Now the old girl has 313,000 klms and does not use a drop of oil between services.
Long live the 1kD engine...Toyota got that one right.
Tony your a legend!!! Saved heaps just watching this video. Keep up the good work mate
G'Day Anthony, just bought an '07 120 prado. your videos have been fantastic! thanks heaps for the knowledge and tips. Such a great head start into owning the vehicle.
When Anthony says quick video, it means get comfortable haha. So much good info in one video, really appreciate the effort that goes in to making these. Yep always carry a tube of Molykote in your pocket when going to Toyota. :) Happy days for you and the family over Christmas.
Just gotta keep watching videos and you answer all the questions, legend
I only use Penrite oils and fluids, swear by it. I use the HPR 10W-40 on the Hilux and Landcruiser. Love your videos mate!
should be a quick video. 45 mins later hahaha
love watching all your videos on prado maintenance
Had my fuel to tank hose crack out bush on holiday and fix it with some silicone and this vid just reminded me probs better replace it lol
great video personally I've always used Penrite oils myself also run a K&N air filter other filters have been RYCO simply because of the reasons you have mentioned in the video and that is definitely info everyone should know. Thanks to great blokes like you being upfront people can know the info. you did a great job covering the relevant information.
I’m definitively switching to a SAE 5W/40 on my wife’s 2010 Volvo XC 60 D5! I’ve been using SAE 5W/30 for the last decade. I’ve been replacing it every 5,000 Km, albeit, we’re on the tropics. Despite, our temperatures rarely reach 32 C but never ever go to freezing even in the highest mountains. And I frowned upon the dealer using SAE 15W/40 as old truck oil -that I use on my 1999 Toyota HiAce LH122- without remorse. The HiAce has given us 450,000 Km of trouble free service!
Nice one Anthony, I swear by PENRITE engine oil, I've run it in my HJ60, HJ61 and now my 08 120 1kdf, in the tropics here at Cairns I'm using 15/50w and ryco filters.
Freaking Fantastic video mate!
We need a Hilux 1kd version
According to the user manual for your "W" prefix number 10W will be fine for temps down to -18c, 15W fine for temps down to -11c, and 20W fine for -7c. The suffix number is stated as fine for temps exceeding 38 degrees, but I expect 30 will be a little bit thin on really hot days. I think a 15W-40 would suit most people's needs, even in cooler areas. That or just swap to a 10W-40 in Winter months if you're worried. I think 5W-30 would be a shit oil for most people unless they lived in the Perisher Valley in Winter or something.
You are so on the money
Great video.Thanks mate.👍
Great video mate
Just bought some of the Penrite 10L bottles on Super Cheap Autos 30% off boxing day deals. Another item you require with your gold card at dealerships is a tub of vaseline 😉
Hi, have seen some people using the Green coolant in their 1kd. Red or pink is the only one for the Toyota as one is an Inorganic fluid as opposed to an Organic, being the other. Yes, big corrosion problems if using the wrong coolant.
I have changed my engine oil with Penrite synthetic and ryco filter from new every 5000km.
2011 Kia Sorento CRDI which now has 520,000km.
I reckon it works.
Mate love ya videos you tell it how it's just send it
My first set of brake pads was @ 170k on my 2007 lux. Still on the original clutch 240,000km same injectors happy days.
Hey Anthony. Thankyou very much for these videos. The amount of things I’ve gone over on my n70 hilux is incredible. So many small parts I’ve personally changed out that my local “mechanic” had no idea about and claim they know these cars like the back of their hand. But one thing I’m having a huge issue with them is. Oil in my coolant bottle just specs iron surface. They claim blow by but doing the blow by test and compression tests it’s all standard if not better. It has 370,000. And they just re did the head, glow plugs and injectors… is this something you would be interested in booking in to have a gander? Thanks mate.
I've tried all the oils and the best is 10-40 Penrite 👍
Hi Anthony, amazing video mate. Have a question: does this video also applies to the Prado Diesel 3L V6 1KD-FTV??
That v6 comment was very accurate lol
Having owned both a diesel Prado and a petrol, I must say the 1GRFE V6 is still a great engine. A lot more horsepower, easy to maintain and considerably cheaper to service than the diesel without the associated problems. Both motors have their pros and cons but In my view, Toyota should have put a 6 pot diesel in the Prado but there has been too much turf guarding of their 200 series Landcruiser.
Hi Anthony. Would like to wish you and your family a merry Christmas and a safe and happy new year. Budda Bing Budda Boom!!!!
cheers and same back to you
Hi mate can you give me alittle advice please can you use a 15w40 muiltygrade mobile oil in a toyota lc5 3liter deisel 2003 1kdJ 120
Are high zinc oils good for 1kds?
Nice video mate. Love how you mentioned rotor machining, wow there’s a rort, just replace rotors when they’re worn. Toyota want $395 per set I.e. front and rear to machine rotors....Daylight robbery.
A brake shop will machine them for about $30 a pair. Definitely cheaper than quality replacement discs.
So much info 🤯
more oil changes are better than less oil changes with these super duper fancy oils
Repco RCF508 cabin air filter - currently $43... christ, is it Repco, or RapeCo? Many thanks for laying out all the options so clearly, and for the advice to find when on sale or on ebay for the not so critical filters, like cabin air. I will be grabbing a Wesfil cabin air filter for $23 at supercheap, or order for a tad less off ebay.
RIPCO
Hi Anthony, thanks for the helpful tips, is the exhaust gasket at 40:00 the same part number (17451-74051) for the 150 '09? Mine's shot!
Anthony do you not work on toyotas with dpfs asking because i have a 2021 hilux single cab sr iam hoping to get 30 years out of keeping it well maintained
Has anyone used the Donaldson kits?
Fuel Air Oil.
Full kit is around $60 +.
Don't know about Donaldson filters. I use Fleetguard filters from my local Kenworth dealer. My 1HZ does not like Penrite oil. Burns 1 litre in the 5000 km cycle. I use valvolene or Cat oil from Kenworth.
would you ever use 5w 30 in a hilux if you cant get 10w 40 or 5w40
i normally use 5w 40 Mobil 1. but recently I couldnt get that the other day and had to use another brand new car at 5w 30, i live in barbados and it really doesnt get past 32c
The guy in Repco said there engine oils are Penrite bottled.
Hi mate just got on to your channel love it please your honest opinion of the bt50 3l motor
I don’t like them they’re noisy and I have had problems but I don’t work on them so I’m certainly not the expert
@@Fourby4Diesel cheers
Can I use full synthetic oil 10 w 40 my prado 1 kd with 250k?
2:30
Put them on scales to compare
I will have a v6 petrol any day thanks
I had 4 diesel hiluxs turbo and no turbo over 40 years. Now I have a 2009 hilux 4 ltr petrol. It nice to power on tap. In the sand it's eats. Lancelin sand is like soft in summer never got bogged. Diesel get begged so easy and quick.
Ive been told synthetics only habe 6mth shelf life
Hi Anthony, should I use genuine Air/Diesel/Oil filters for Prado 90 or the after market are the same?
Genuine parts are always preferred, especially when the price difference is negligible such as oil filters. When there's a stupid price difference and the aftermarket part meets spec then it's hard to justify as the video has said. The take away is regular servicing done properly.
@@Haywoodjablomie100 thanks for the reply 👍 the price difference is big here but people are saying that the after market are not the same quality so it is better to purchase the genuine
I’m thinking you don’t do any 2.7 td ford territory’s, but what’s your opinion on these engines ?
They make me feel sick from all the stories I’ve heard all the tail pipes ive seen, the price of their problems like a six to $7000 supply pump problem
Territory with a six cylinder 4.0lt
is an awesome vehicle quite economical also if you drive it right considering the weight of the vehicle will get close to around water prado with a diesel gets if your nice
Fourby4Diesel I bought a 2012 SZ 2.7 diesel with 200,000 klm for 9k, just did all the fluid changes as the previous owner let the service log slip for the past 25,000klm, checked the condition of the timing belt, looks very good but noticed the air cleaner was very dirty. Getting around 7.6 to 8.1 litre per 100 klm, depends on city or country driving for the past 3,700 klm. Noticed they have 2 EGR system as it’s a V6 diesel and been told they just replace them and not clean them out. The pump your talking about is it the fuel pump belt at the rear of the block ? A new engine is 8k, is there anything I should know or keep an eye on, bought for long distance driving and pulling a trailer upto 2 Tonne on a rare occasion. Cheers
While you are trying to educate the home mechanic how about a vid on useing a torque wrench on sump plugs, diff plugs and gear box plugs and filler plugs. Lots off home mechanics do things up ugger bugger tight.
When the inj. Pump/ injectors fails on your diesel, the v6 petrol guys will be going "hahaha"- as fuel is cheaper than parts..
Stuff all this high tech shit old hilux 2.8 3l td42 2h the good old motors
