- When you break a rear view mirror off of your windshield, what do you do? How do you "glue it back on"? Can it be fixed? Yes it can! and its pretty easy too. Today we'll take a look at a rear view mirror adhesive made by Permatex and see how it preforms.

"I'm not into looking back, but now I can, if I have to."
There's Dave, always finding time to share a life lesson within another lesson.
LOL, Thanks
“I’m not into looking back, but now I can if I have to” 😂
Thanks Dave for the guide.
This is probably the third or fourth video I have come across on such repair in which they are all good but yours is the best because you actually perform a stress test on the glued piece. Thank you dear Cheap Wheels.
Thanks 👍
Lovely, to the point, gives it to ya straight, no shop talk, and doesn't miss a point. Haven't seen anything better on the subject. Subscribed!!
I about lost myself when you said “I don’t like looking back. But now I can, if I have to.” 😂
the button comes out....... prolly should have seen this 2 packets ago. god bless my man. have a good day!
I love how Dave is straight to the point and makes everything look easy
Thanks
Excellent straightforward instruction.
Thanks Dave.
I have done this one several times. Probably wont be the last.
Glad you enjoyed it
5 bucks over here in California 🎯 and am now a follower so to the clear instructions and play by play 👌🏾
Looking around the internet and my own personal experiences I would say you have a 50/50 chance of that stuff actually working.
Good Job Dave. you are no nonsense direct and entertaining. Thank you.
I think I see some deep thinking in starting this channel, you now have a reason to pick up all sorts of old vehicles so you can keep fixing stuff. Smart guy, it will be interesting to see how many Ford trucks you can end up with before Brooke says anything. Thanks for sharing.
Oh, there on to me.....Brooke has already said a few things...LOL. Between Michigan and Alaska I have 4 ford trucks, a jeep, and an escort
@@cheapwheels9828 You clearly have a balance problem, you need find another cheap and escort.
Hello. Good morning. I'm going to try this today. I'll let you know my results soon. Thanks! Great teaching.
Its Dave - lets see more Dave on Alone! Maybe you are but only just finished season 5.
I found it funny I just stumbled on your page while trying to fix my f150 mirror.
My mirror in 95 Ranger fell off about 10 days after I first watched video. I did not hesitate to get it fixed. Normally I would have asked several friends what they recommended. Thanks for your helpful videos.
Glad it helped
I love that “Keep your junk on the road” line lmfao
Thanks
Great job Dave. Clear and straightforward!
Thanks Dave! Great instructions… by the way todays price for same product at Auto Zone was $8.95!! Can we say inflation!!
nice work Dave, just what I needed for the old Bronco
I love all of your videos! You and Brooke are the best! ❤️🙌🏻
Thank you so much!!
Ok, you've shamed me into fixing my mirror on my 91' S10. Great video. I probably wouldn't have read the directions and screwed it all up.🤣
Good luck with it
Straight forward no BS information time and time again. Thank you!
Thanks
Important to be aware if you have any tint or UV film on the windshield. I’d imagine that most older cars with that style rear view probably don’t, but just a thought. Great video and another cheap and easy fix. Thank you Dave and God bless!
Great point!
Times have changed since the days of rear view mirror brackets being held on by screws at the top of the windshield/headliner area.......good video on how to address gluing the newer style mirror mount back on! Thanks!
Thanks
Very nicely done. Worked exactly as described.
The sun always makes mine come off every summer
Mine just popped off last week in 90 degree heat. Had been on for appx 3 months. Sucks. Did you find any useful solution?
hey there Dave...you won't believe this but I just bought that same kit to put my rearview mirror back on lol now I don't have to read the instructions thanks for that ;) have a great week & take care
Thanks Trey
Excellent video man! Thanks for sharing! 👍👍👍
Now, I followed your instructions completely.... lets see how the repair works out long term. I got 5 or more years out of the last repair, but I didn't study before making that fist repair. I squeezed really hard and had way to little glue, left to hold on. One drop with firm pressure 30 seconds to a minute... give it an hour before installing the mirror. The price now in june 2023 is $7.85 for the .." ALL NEW- Permatix EXTREME STRENGTH glue ". A Bargain still, ...when you get your Rear View back.
Something about the way you produced that crayon from behind your ear just tickled me. 🤭
LOL
I always put a piece of tape over the metal after you glue it too the window..it works for me. Great video
Great tip!
Thanks for sharing the great tips with us.
My pleasure!
Great video Dave
Thanks 👍
Did you say 2.99 its 7.99 now. Thanks for the video very helpful!
Bidenomics
Thanks Dave! Another fine job.
Glad you enjoyed it
That was Radical. Oh wait, that's your other channel. Thanks for the tip.
Thank you! I have to do this after work today!
Helpful vid, thanks for sharing man!!!
Good stuff Dave,,, be well out there!
thanks
I have used that before. It's a great product. Nice video.
Thanks
at 1:03 that's what she said, I couldn't resist 😂😂😂 - no offense. Awesome Tutorial
Back around 82 or so I was cleaning out my 74 American Motors rebel station wagon, and I flipped - Frisbee style - an aluminum coke can into the front part of the car (from the rear), and gosh darn it I cracked the front window. Luck of the Irish! Dad bailed me out on that one. Thanks Dad. Bless
I bet you wish you had that car today. I grew up around AMCs and they actually get real money nowadays.
@@cheapwheels9828 Around that time my friend Bob mentioned to me that Al Jarreau drove the same car as mine. (Hollywood studio connection). That engine just hummed along, but then the trans went on it.
G'day Dave, thanks for the video, Permatex, great product, interesting discounted price in Australia $14 / 70.
Almost all reviews for this product at least here in sunny Australia, are 1 star. Users claim that they followed the instructions properly, but the mirror fell off in a week's time anyway. So now I am in two minds. My rear view mirror fell off today and I am looking for a good adhesive.
Bought it for 13.00 at advance auto parts, it's been going strong for 2 weeks with 90 degree temps every day
It's a good thing my van has two rear view mirrors on the doors . . . my dog gets paranoid that I'm keeping an eye on what she's up to back there when we're headed down the road :) (She's probably the one that knocked my mirror off, in the first place!) Thanks for the tips, Dave! See you down the road . . . God Bless
thanks Dave
Great Video Dave!
Thanks!
Great information and instructions! I had that happen before and was expensive to get it reattached.
$2.99 next time
@@cheapwheels9828 exactly 💗
Thank you for this Dave‼️👌🏼😃
You bet
Hey, Dave! Thanks so much for this video! I'm on the verge of cleaning the windshield with the razor blade. I really like the way you explained every step! By the way, is your button still hanging from this application? Thanks, Dave, so much!
Enjoyed the video. Thanks.
Glad you enjoyed it
Good job Dave.
Thanks
All I wanted was an answer, the whole answer and nothing but the answer and that's exactly what you provided.
Great job!
Thanks!!
Glad it helped!
I have had luck with epoxy for an aftermarket mirror I had installed. Permatex failed twice, once while tightening screw and another in summer heat. Cleaned with windex, heard something about windex leaving a residue?? Last time with epoxy used a 70% IPA wipe, so idk what actually made this thing finally stick.
Thank you Dave.
One litte tip when you use the razor blade to clean the glue off the button. Put it in the mirror. Will be easier to hold, as well as safer.
Great video gracias
Love the new channel
Thanks
Just what I needed!
Good job Dave....thanks
Thanks for watching!
Help Dave...that shiny layer of adhesive is all bumpy and still on windshield...I've tried scraping and good off special epoxy remover....won't budge...It's all bumpy...helllllp
Thank you. Boy did I not do that right a couple years ago and why I have a jerry-rigged rear view. I'll give it another try. Love these videos. Very helpful.
Good luck this time!
Which is the glue used, can you provide buying link indian
ty very good video.
Have a safe blessed day! 🙏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽
You too!!
Great vid man
Thanks
Thanks man i had the stuff but the package got wet and desintegrated
Thank you!
For $2.99? Not at Walmart. I think I paid around $10.
Glued mine on twice with that kit and another and it fell off both times
I've glued a few on higher up over the years as I'm tall.
Oh, right on
I'm predicting Cheap Wheels will have an upcoming episode titled; "How to replace the windshield on an old pickup truck". But maybe that's just me. Another good video Dave, no idea why it didn't pop up in my feed for an entire day though.
Not this truck. Its not bad enough yet
good job
Hey Dave ..... I notice in the beginning of the videos and the end I hear the sound of a vehicle running.... and you drive Fords...... neighbors car? I love your videos. God bless
LOL!
During this heat wave I doubt it will get below 75 degrees in Memphis today!
I'd love to see a diy windshield swap if that's possible. Plus I see you got a good crack already in yours. 👍
I wouldnt change mine. Its not that bad.
Does this kit hold to heat? Mines rear view mirror fell off but it took some of the windshield glass too a small piece. What do you suggest to do? Use epoxy?
?
Good Video!
Thanks!
doesn't work. I tried 3 times with different versions of the permatex packaging (maybe indicating different generations)
one version of directions said only 30 minutes cure time. tried multiple day cure times. still failed.
I tried both on the black thermal coating and straight to glass. nothing held.
Thanks,great
Does anyone know what the rule for the temperature is? The instructions say 50-75 degrees, but the low in Houston is 78 tonight. I need to get this back on, but I don’t want to mess it up. Any help is appreciated!
Memphis is up to 94 degrees today already at 8 am! Not sure about tonight in my garage!
Today it's over $7. What a ripoff
And, for whatever reason, they don't stick worth a damn anymore.
just paid $15 for one. bidenomics
When I have this problem again I wil use this. Thanks
Happy to help
Hello Dave.
hello
Good one!
Thanks!
The use for stihl tuning screwdrivers never ends 👍
Right!!
Mine fell off again after 2 years. The product has increased in price so much that a brand new upgraded mirror and mount from LMC Truck is only $3 more than the goo alone. Bought a new mirror instead.
..Time to get mine out of the glove box..lol..stay safe.
🤣
good luck
I've used crazy glue works good
Good to know!
Nice
Mirrors? We don't need no stinkin' mirrors!
right
It happen to my car on 2024 at 9:14am😂😂😂😂 thanks for the video
92 F150 button removed Thanks Dave
The good ol boys at napa told me to leave the mounting nub cure overnight if possible. I did, seems ok.
Can you believe that Toyota dealership said that this would cost over 200 dollars plus tax ? Incredible.... Anyway, thanks for your video.
To reattach it? Or to replace it all together
Repair only at temperature between 10 and 25c. Damm it’s -10 right now 😩
you'll have to wait
What's the movie they rip off the rear view mirror and say "it doesn't matter what's behind you." ? I'm thinking Cannonball Run?
I dont recall.....I havent seen that one since it was in theaters and I was 5
@@cheapwheels9828 I thought there would be a few people chime in with the answer and get some more action on your channel. 😉
@@JeffWinter1 Now I wanna watch the movie again to see if that is it...like I need a reason.😁

No, its fine
😮 Dam where do you live it’s 7 bucks where I’m from. That sucks.
Great video! But when using a razor blade don’t scape when your fingers are directly in front of razor blade😀
