I dunno how you managed to deal with an auto all this time, I wouldn't wish that on anybody lol Got anything to drive while your 300 is grounded ? Nothing more irritating than having no daily because you're working on a (or multiple) cars. Ask me how I know xD Anyways, good luck with everything man, truly hope this turns out great. These GEs were never meant to be confined within the merciless limits of an automatic gearbox. Hopefully the Frankenstein J160 works well for you. Daylying a J160, I like this box, even if it's a bit noisy at idle. Having six gears is really nice even if it doesn't really save you much on fuel TBH because the 1G-FE is rather thirsty for what it is, let's be honest. Which brings me to another debate. It's always about either swapping a transmission in an IS300 to get a manual, OR boosting the 1G-FE.... I know the 2JZ-GE is much more capable than the 1G-FE when it comes to power. But hey, the turbo kit for the 1G-FE gets it to 240HP (for about $3,000) which is more than a stock 2JZ-GE. Ultimately you could argue that the 2JZ-GE is the better engine. What, with an extra liter of displacement and stronger internals (albeit not as strong as a 2JZ-GTE), and you'd be right. But it still wouldn't make as much power as a boosted 1G-FE. Not entirely sure what your plans are with this build. Realistically speaking, I know very well that this kind of stuff takes a lot of time, energy and money. Very exciting progression though. Hey man! Well, Crypto changed my plans.. I'm sure you can figure out what happened there haha! Anyways... this is my only car, so I'll have to chill and press on with the project! I hated the 1GFE, for a 6 cylinder, it lacks everything I would imagine. That's why I made the jump to the 300 in the first place. Unfortunately, the auto made me miss the 200 quite a bit! There's no question that the 2JZ is miles ahead of the 1GFE in every single way. I wouldn't ever even put them in the same category. I have spent between £2000 and £2500 on this manual swap and £4000 on the car, which is still less than the cost of a manual IS300 in the US... at least for a good one. I'm shooting for 320hp when boosted. That's the first stage. Stock GTE power will be more than enough for the street. Once I've done that, and sorted out the suspension and the interior, then I'll think about adding more power :) I'm very grateful for your support, thank you so much!
