@Luke That's not actually accurate, many latinos here in PR know they are, especially from cities like Luquillo, Loiza, Rio Grande, Fajardo etc. A key difference is people outside of the US simply go by nationality first while it's rare for a person from the States to not go by race first, they don't start with "I'm American", but while they're definitely some people who deny their black ancestry in Latin America, there's also a lot who don't.

Marriage is antiquated. Getting married doesn’t even make sense for a lot of people. Marriage is actually a religious ritual and most Americans either don’t belong to a religion or aren’t practicing. (They’ll tell you they are Christian or Catholic but haven’t been to church since they were a kid.) People just want a ring and a party and that’s dumb. If people actually cared about being married they’d just got to the courthouse and get a license. Engagements and rings serve no purpose with modern lifestyles.
I've only been to 1 marriage where those getting married were actively religious and the woman's father was a priest so, outlier. All the others I've been to are people that haven't been to church in over 20 years and don't embody any of the practice or mannerism of religion in their lives but they still all get married in a church and counsel with a priest (which they bitch about having to do before and after) and go through all the ritualistic stuff in the ceremony then never return to church again ever. It is a weird routine that people still feel compelled to complete even though they have no idea why. They aren't even being pressured to do it its not like their parents or anyone for that matter in the family is religions and telling them to do it, they just do because thats what your supposed to do. Definitely weird. 75% of Americans identify as christians but I'll say 95% of the people I've ever met could be called "Sunday only Christians" Really the only reason they go to church on Sundays is so they can go out to lunch afterward.

Then there was the whole rise of “I’m not religious, I’m spiritual!” It’s funny the traditions people still keep though.
I was raised hardcore Irish Catholic. (I’m actually from Boston. Schultz was spot on.) Catholic school, alter server, the whole nine. Soon as I left for college I was out. My sister was the same way. When she was getting married, for some reason, she really wanted to get married in a church. Her husband wasn’t baptized. Didn’t belong to a religion. They started the whole process. He got baptized and received his first communion. They ended up hating the process and getting married in some random Congregational church where my brother in law’s uncle is the music director. Neither one of them belonged to that church or religion.
