Welcome to Jinjer. The band shines in their live performances, so I recommend "Perennial" live at Wacken. I think, however, you would enjoy "I speak Astronomy" (OMV). It has very few harsh vocals and a science friction theme. Good reaction. (Subbed)

The usual next steps are Perennial live in Wacken or Judgement and Punishment one take vocal performance.
However, for you as fantasy fans I might recommend reacting both the one take and official video of Judgement and Punishment - the video contains captivating visuals and story in genre of horror fantasy with slavic vibes.

Welcome to Jinjer! Awesome reaction! I hope you continue exploring this amazing band. They truly don't have a bad song and every one is different. I would recommend Perennial (live at Wacken 2019) or Pit of Consciousness (live in Kiev)as good next stops (this band is amazing live) or the official music videos for Vortex or I Speak Astronomy. Keep the Jinjer coming!

Hey guys, nice reaction/review. I've been a musician since I was a kid (many years ago!) and I've played in multiple bands in several genres over the years, but I was never into metal music with growl/scream harsh vocals until I discovered Jinjer near the end of 2021. I immediately loved the band because of their sophisticated, interesting and varied songwriting, fantastic musicianship and the awesome vocals of Tatiana, with her incredible ability to instantly transition back and forth from beautiful clean singing to some of the best harsh vocals I've heard, female or male. I would recommend checking out Perennial (live from Wacken 2019 video), Wallflower (official video), Judgement and Punishment (Tatiana's live one take vocal performance video) and Home Back (official video). The lyrics and video for Home Back were about the fighting since 2014 with Russian-backed separatists in their homeland of the Donetsk region in eastern Ukraine, but the song has an even greater emotional impact since psychopath Putin's 2022 all-out invasion.

I Speak Astronomy and Vortex: Great tunes and great videos with a mix of clean and growl vocals, the former leaning towards the cleans.

They are from Donetsk in eastern Ukraine, where the fighting started in 2014. Her name is Tatiana, and she is mostly self taught. This live session was done to showcase Vlad on drums, as he had joined the band not long before this, but it went viral because of her vocals. He is classically trained on piano, and self taught on drums. He, Roman (guitar), and Eugene (bass), write the music, and Tati writes most of the lyrics.
Using her influences, her voice would go from Gwen Stefani to Randy Blythe(Lamb of God). Most of their songs are mixed vocals, and she can switch seamlessly. And the music will switch between genres, including metalcore, jazz, and reggae.
The usual next step is to see her do it live with Perennial at Wacken 2019. Pit of Consciousness live in Kiev is good too.
Others to try: Teacher Teacher, Judgement(and Punishment), Home Back(about the fighting in their homeland in 2014), I Speak Astronomy, and Vortex.

I'll give ya 3 songs off of their latest album Wallflower is a slow build, Vortex picks the pace a lot quicker and then Mediator straight up kicks you in the face from the start. Enjoy your Jinjer journey Pisces is quite liberally the tip of the iceberg.

I've been listening to metal since the early 80s and I was NEVER a fan of screaming/growling vocals...until I heard this song in Dec 2020. Jinjer quickly became my favorite band. Not just because of the vocals, the the entire band. I still don't like that type of vocals, unless it's Tatiana. Ok, I like Lena Scissorhands (Infected Rain) and Alissa White-Gluz (Arch Enemy) too, but not to the same extent. I've seen Jinjer live twice including meet and greets both times. Every single one of them are amazing musicians and human beings. You won't go wrong picking any song from their catalog. Just grab one and go. Enjoy the rabbit hole. And extra points for being one of the very few to notice/mention the Star Wars poster.

Any Jinjer song I've heard before this 1). Has been a live video and 2). has been a lot harder instrumentals. This song I actually really enjoyed because I got a good handle on what the whole band was capable of. In live songs, a lot of times with the crowd and the distortion it gets hard to hear what they're putting forward. But I really liked this. And your reaction.

  • @nickmoutos8308

Enjoyable reaction and good analysis. Jinjer is a fantastic band, and from the sounds of your comments and analysis, there will be some of their songs you'll find too hard or too heavy on the harsh vocals. However, I think there will be far, far more of their songs you'll really enjoy, not only for Tati's amazing vocals/vocal range, but for the musicianship of Vlad (Drummer), Eugene (Bassist), and Roman (Guitarist). Given your comments, here are some suggestions: "Perennial" Live at Wacken Open Air 2019; "Teacher, Teacher," either Official Video or Live in Melbourne; "Pit of Consciousness" Live in Kiev; "On the Top" Live in Kiev; "Retrospection" Official Video; "Vortex" either Official Video or Live at Hellfest; "Call Me A Symbol" Official Video; "Wallflower" Official Video. Looking forward to your next Jinjer reaction!

In addition to the poster, I think the costuming on Tati (black and white, with tall boots) is a nod to ANH. Perennial live at Wacken is a great pick for a next step. You'll probably like the video on I Speak Astronomy which also has less emphasis on growls, but I'd always recommend a concert video as the first follow-up. Oh the ending of Vortex is has some cool visuals. Subbed. Cheers!

As a 56 year old whiskey drinking, cigar smoking, dungeon master since age 12, I would love to sit on a porch with y'all and really introduce you to Jinjer.
But I'd probably be playing Unleash the Archers if we had a session going.
That said, I'm a music weirdo. Jinjer got a sweet spot in jazz, reggae (you'll see it if you continue), metalcore, and classical combined with complex time signatures that just wrecks me. Then you have Tatiana writing poetry on top of that, with her talents, it's a brutal rabbit hole.
The entrance to the cave is inviting, but you see the piles of bones around the outside. Do you enter?

Sorry if redundant, but they're an Ukrainian band from the Donbass area.. Have been through absolute hell. Beat around eastern Europe for years without any recognition. War, drummer breaking back and 2nd guitarist up and quitting on them never slowed them down. Tati is a generational Lyricist. Lives to mix old world with new, always has something to say but leave it up for interpretation as well! She has unlimited vocal abilities and uses all to fit the story she is telling! Objectively you will not find a a band that is as talented and cohesive to a man as they are. Can't go wrong with any if their stuff! I legit don't have one track that is not in my rotation!! Enjoy boys!!

Ha! Well I have to say that's the first time we've heard that but I can appreciate the perception of it. We thoughrly enjoyed the song which is evident in our vote towards the end as well as in the comments we made about the song and performance. We're definitely not "over-reactors" and I'll admit some things hit harder to us than others, but again I assure you, we absolutely loved Pisces and can't wait to do more Jinjer!
