  • 🐐 In celebration of Wes Craven's birthday, we are revisiting his seminal horror classic! In this episode we will discuss the director's lasting legacy, Freddy Krueger as the ultimate boogeyman, talk about why Nancy Thompson is one of the most influential final girls there is, Eddie will regale us with the time he randomly met two of the film's stars, and of course, we'll also choose which character we think was most deserving to die.

Krueger's weapon is actually the most tactical of any slasher. It's a part of his body basically. He has perfect control unlike a knife or other weapon that can be knocked out of your hand or wielded wrong.

i'm def on board with a revamping of the NOES story, EXCEPT including the later sequels as canonical. i'd actually spoken with an editor of DC comics a decade ago with a pitch for a series of comics that coincided with the first film, filling in the blanks and backstories with what i'd learned from deleted scenes and interviews i'd read and watched in the last 40 years of my love of the first film.
    I WASN'T TOLD NO!!! lol
however, the editor, Bob Wayne (yes, really), wasn't able to greelight anything, personally, but gave me a handful of names which ultimately led nowhere... but, i still have my scripts, concept art/storyboards, and will FOREVER have the vision of fleshing out the lore in THE most faithful way possible.
as a kid, i enjoyed the evolution of Krueger into a cartoon character (save for the traumatic moment of Nancy's death in Dream Warriors), but i ALWAYS wanted to return him to the absolute monster given free reign in the dream realm.

About the movie's ending - I am still confused how to to interpret it.
But I am leaning more into theory Freddy's still there, Nancy fall a sleep, and Freddy was killed only in a real world, not in general...
As Zack mentioned, Cravne blured the lines between reality and dreams very well, but the very ending has to be dream!
Of course sequles f*ck such interpreation up (possibility of bad ending, and Nancy getting killed off screen once they drove that Freddy car) :)

These were the days before Freddy had become an endless parody of himself, and I'm not lying when I say that it was THE most terrifying thing that I had ever seen at that point. I've seen it countless times since and never tire of it. RIP, Wes.❀❀❀❀❀

The information about David Warner is not true. Both David Warner and Wes Craven denied that there was ever an offer or interest in David playing Freddy. The photo that is supposed to be David Warner in the Freddy makeup is actually a rejected makeup concept for Robert Englund. David Miller said these things in the "Never sleep again" documentary and clearly he was confused about what project he was working on. They corrected this information in the Never sleep again book that came out after the documentary.
