  • 🐾 It's been a few weeks since we've talked slashers, and figured now would be the perfect time to dive into the first season of the brand new Chucky television series that debuted last fall. Join us as we talk about how the Child's Play franchise continues to be the most inclusive, hilarious, and respectful-of-its-fans horror franchise, and as we delight in all of the juicy performances from both new and returning cast members. We'll also discuss the nods to the past movies, what we would like to see in Chucky Season Two, and of course choose which character we think was most deserving to die.

It’s interesting that Logan reverts to Luke’s vices after they face the same horrible turn in life (their wives and the mother of their children dying). And with Jake explaining that he and his dad used to be friends, it’s implied that the turn taken with Junior and Logan is the same one we never saw of Jake and Luke

I think the TV series far outpaces anything the movies have given us. Don Mancini was under pressure to deliver the slasher movie goods in 90 minutes each time out. By the time the series had been greenlit, the movies had fully embraced how utterly ridiculous the whole concept is. I think the format gave Mancini the freedom to really address the themes he always wanted to more explicitly: adolescent angst, social pressure, gay coming of age. I was initially hesitant to watch the show because of how trashy I thought the movies are, but once I was talked into watching it, I was surprised and even genuinely moved by its story, which I was not expecting at all. I'm glad this show exists, and I can't wait for the next season.

Zack, I know you've got the next couple months planned, but can I put in a request for Alien and The Descent after this round is done? Those are my two favorites along with Scream.

I really, REALLY enjoyed season 1. I thought that the pilot was a little too slow and was really worried, but ep 2 was solid and got me hooked. I'm tangentially related to Dinah Manoff who played Aunt Maggie in the original film, so this franchise has a special place in my heart.

Who whoa whoa! Logan wasn’t that bad a guy, he asked Junior if he was actually interested in cross country essentially giving him an out.
He constantly pulled him up for being shitty to Jake and was great to Jake all around.
The drink driving wasn’t great but his wife did just die so he was clearly distressed, not an excuse but he didn’t deserve to die over it.
Maybe I’m biased when Devon Sawa is involved as idle hands was so dope

Agreed. Nothing against Jennifer Tilly but I feel Tiffany just dragged from the main story and was forced into it, even taking away from the season finale.
She needs her own arc independently from Chucky, not overshadowing him.

The I Know What You Did Last Summer was honestly one of the worst tv shows I've ever seen, BUT there was one scene in particular that I thought was great which was the opener to episode 6. That was legit for anything in the horror genre.

So on the Lucas/Logan conversation. It's heavily implied that Lucas didn't become an alcoholic or at least didn't become violent until after Jake's mother died in a car crash. Lucas became an abuser because of heavy alcohol use after his wife died. Logan begins consuming heavy amounts of alcohol right after his wife dies, and it's implied that his spiraling would have only gotten worse if it was allowed to continue. We as the audience weren't supposed to turn on Logan yet, but we're supposed to know we would have had to if it escalated any more.

I listen to quite a few film podcasts, but this is the only one that doesn’t include a brief plot synopsis at the start of the show. Is this something you might consider including in the future? You and Eddie are so entertaining and knowledgeable that I’m sure there must be lots of us who enjoy hearing your discussions even when it’s for a film we haven’t actually seen. Anyway, thank you for the fantastic content, I always look forward to each new episode 😊

I'm delighted to hear my name here as a new patron lol. I really enjoyed this series despite minor issues with it and I've come to appreciate Chucky so much more as I've gotten older after being just a casual fan when I was younger. Junior was my choice to die even though I understand Eddie's defense of him. I just couldn't get past his bullying of Jake and even though the actor did a good job, we don't need that character going forward. As someone who knows about what happens in the later Chucky movies without actually having watched them I never felt lost with where the show was going. I'm excited for season 2.

This was such a fun show! Even though Curse and Cult are me least favorites, the tie ins are really cool and they make those movies matter more to me, I’ll have to revisit them!
I would love to see you both dig into the scream TV series. Even if y’all don’t like it, I’d be down for two hours of poking fun at it 😂 (I love the first two season since revisiting them all these years later, season 1 being the stand out for me.)

In the end of the season, there is a black glove grabbing the tree in the cemetery and watching the kids, and with her pointing out the gloves earlier, I think Kyle might actually be alive. Though, that begs the question of who the ‘reported casualties’ were. Was it because of chucky’s exploded body? Like the blood?
Many questions. Hyped for season 2

  • @tigerlord9302

1st half was great, second half was all over the place. Mainly from forcing Tiffany into the story and giving her a separate scheme.
Her mood swings are getting annoying.

1:19:10 good to see you're so open minded Zach lol
Not gonna lie I'm the same way with Lexy, her character went from mocking the death of someone's parent to doing her best Vin Diesel impression saying they're family in a couple of episodes yea it was way too quick of a turnaround. This season was up and down throughout but still excited to see where they go next season. This is definitely one of the most consistent horror franchise.

I know what you did last summer tv show is an absolute mess. I was excited for it but felt immediate disappointment 😂
The Chucky tv series definitely had some really great episodes and moments but it did feel a bit hit or miss for me at times. I thought it was enjoyable overall but in terms of horror, I won’t find this memorable.
