I remember watching this movie when I was probably way too young to understand it, but even then I got how campy it was. I still love it and appreciate it even more now. Such a fun movie.

Just because it’s not in the era of the remakes, doesn’t mean that they aren’t remakes before then.

Hammer Horror movies are 100% remakes of Universal Horror. Those aren’t “readaptations” of source material.

My least favorite of the trilogy, but that’s not saying much, they’re all pretty great but idk how you top Pearl. Voted for the killer, very underutilized and could’ve made the movie great. My pitch for the fourth film is it’s in the ‘90’s and Hollywood is making a movie based on the Texas Porn Star Massacre. Maxine gets either cast or is involved somehow. Maybe she even gets cast to play Pearl and the lines get super blurry between her and Pearl. Could tie everything up pretty nicely and play into how meta the 90’s got with New Nightmare and Scream.

Zack, I totally agree with your theories about what the film could have been. With the breadcrumbs they gave us in the trailer, how did Maxine not interface with the Night Stalker? Why did they not employ revisionist history to make Maxine’s nefarious actions be mistaken for Night Stalker activity? If not, what is the point of even adding him into the plot at all? Especially since our “peanut butte” coroner friend shoots down the theory that the film’s murders are in anyway linked to the real life killer. And in the first act no less. Sigh. Well, even with its faults I enjoyed the movie… but think of the movie we could have gotten! Anyway, Buster Keaton has to go. Maxine’s dad has mental problems, but that Keaton cosplayer is in his right mind and knows exactly what he’s doing, and there’s no excuse him being a forceful douche!

I will not accept a film I do not deserve.

This was my least favorite of the trilogy and that is a huge compliment because I loved it and the first two. I loved how gritty it felt, I felt like I was watching a VHS. I agree with Eddie, I could smell/feel the environments of this movie. I called the identity of the killer within ten minutes, but it didn't kill my enjoyment like Scream 6 did... and this movie was very topical for today. It is funny because back in the 80s, Satanic Panic ruled the day and people went batshit accusing everyone of being satanic and trying to censor movies, etc. Now, 40 years later, we are LIVING THAT. You have people accusing all of Hollywood of being adrenochrome-sucking Satan worshippers, you have people wanting books and movies censored or banned. The Nightstalker subplot was not really a subplot... it was a way to have her father cover his tracks by pinning his murders on someone else so no one would find him out. I also felt it was obvious Maxine Minx was a stage name... it sounds like a porn name haha.

Its funny because the director telling Pearl to ‘squash’ whatever is coming at her is a very english thing 😂 It may not be exclusive to england of course but something typically said here is to ‘squash the beef’ - ie, get rid of any conflict

The film Angel is a HUGE influence on this film.

I finally watched it last night, so great timing! It gave me Scream 3 vibes except it had more gore and you knew who the killer was, but you didn’t feel for the people that died. Maybe except her guy friend from the video store. It was a good movie. Great style and soundtrack. It was just the final act that prevented the viewer to fully climax. So, it was a bit of a whimper. I laughed so hard when Molly’s head going down the staircase with the suitcase, I was like, “There she goes!”

As someone from England, I loved to hear Eddie use the term 'nighttime telly'

I assumed the issue tracking her down was that Minx was a stage name, rather than her actual name. That was never explicitly said at any point, but how I interpreted it. I enjoyed Maxxxine, but it was easily my least favourite in the series. X is still my favourite because of the well-developed and likeable characters.

Great movie, better than X

Found this one disappointing. I had high hopes for it but nothing really grabbed me or left an impression.

I've seen Maxxxine twice on a big screen now. I really liked it. It was not what I expected though. I was hoping for a straightforward slasher, and what I got was rather a crime and mystery thriller/drama. But second time around, having no expactations anymore, I enjoyed the hell out of it. At the end I am glad it was not slasher, we got it with X already. I think both X and Pearl were better movies over all. X nailed the cameral slasher genre. Pearl nailed cameral psychological horror/drama format. And both had amazing third acts. While I am not sure whether Maxxxine nailed it in being crime and mystery flick. The whodunit aspect could be better, some side characters and subplots didn't get enough time to breathe, and be 100% satisfying. And yes, the third act in Maxxxine is bit underwhelming, not as much as Scream 6, but still :) I loved it regardless, and I have a feeling it will keep on growing on me :) Cheers guys!
