I enjoy this remake a lot. I like how Kerr Smith is the typecast douche in horror movies whether it was this or Final Destination, he plays the role well!

I featured this movie at my 14th birthday and there was a lot laughing that took place!! It's not a great movie but it holds a special place place in my teenage years!

Hammer Horror movies are 100% remakes of Universal Horror. Those aren’t “readaptations” of source material.

As someone from a small coal mining town, I like this one. It’s just a mindless nostalgic slasher at this point, but it’s fun to put on from time to time.

In my memories of on line discourse from the are the word remake was a dirty word. It was like considering offensive that they were remaking so many classic horror movies. Was nothing sacred? Then during the production of his Halloween remake Rob Zombie said in an interview that it was more like a reimagining because he changed some stuff. After that people stopped saying the word remake.
I first heard of reboot regarding Batman Begins in 2005. This term makes sense for things like comic book movies, as this Batman had no connection with any other previous Batman movie.
It really felt people just stopped saying remake because it carried a negative connotation.

Just because it’s not in the era of the remakes, doesn’t mean that they aren’t remakes before then.

You did enjoy this movie but one thing I get aggravated about is they have the legend of Harry warden just do a My bloody Valentine re-reboot and actually have Harry be the killer throughout the whole movie with TJ and Axel (if they absolutely have to be there) teaming up to take him down . The best part of this movie besides all the kills was the beginning where it's actually Harry in the mine killing people

I just saw this recently and I hated Sara she was terrible girlfriend she made Tom go to the mine party knowing he fear it and then just leaves him there wtf and then goes and married her friends boyfriend hated that best part is Jensen such a great actor the reveal did throw me off especially since it’s different than the original love the tension between him and axel though

You forgot about the impact of the "Ring (2002)" remake but that's just adding to the point you made. Also, The Hills Have Eyes (2006) got a 2007 sequel. Piranha 3D (2010) got a 2012 sequel. The (admittedly well received) I Spit on Your Grave (2010) remake happens to get a f*cking TRILOGY! Bye the way, please remember Ghost Ship (2002)!

I prefer My Bloody Valentine 3D over the original which is saying something since I enjoy 2000s remakes like I enjoy having a headache. The killer reveal surprised me. I just wish it was a better movie to show off Jensen’s acting chops. Then again we have Supernatural for that. I haven’t gotten to discussion of the cherry picker yet, but man do I hope Sara is one of them.

The 2000s were Americans taking Canadian horror films, and their own horror films, and making them even gorier and more ridiculous.

I actually have characters in one my manuscripts for my Fate of the King book series that debate the difference between reboot and remake because the book itself is my own remake to my first book. So for me it was always:
Remake is meant to redo a story that was already done, but differently. Same plot with slight or major changes to get a different result in the end.
Re-telling is the exact same story just updated in modern times.
Reboot meant to completely starting over and doing everything differently like how the Amazing Spider-Man with Andrew Garfield was a reboot to the Sam Raimi/Tobey McGuire Spider-Man movie.
Re-quel is a continuation in the franchise with legacy characters but focusing on a new cast and plot.
Re-imagining probably would be like when they re-tell of the original story but they gender swap, or they want to handle certain characters differently. So a remake but in denial that it's a remake.
A Franchise would be 4 or more movies, not necessarily sequels, from an original IP (to include any spin-offs or subpar installments) that might not be in the main canon but is still spawning from the original IP.

I've seen it in the cinema and I remember the 3d gimmick was realised in a pretty decent way.
Besides that I found the movie very dumb, twist included.
It was before I discovered Halloween and other slasher classics from the past, that I studied and fell in love with the subgenre.
I rewatched My Bloody Valentine 3D last year to check if I might enjoy it more now, knowing so much more about slashers, and no, it's still pretty dumb movie.
I have a sympathy for Lussier for his great job witrh Craven, I think small changes towards the OG My Bloody Valentine's plot were nice, kills were decent, Tom Atkins was fine as always, but over all it's still a silly movie, and that twist, god, I hate those kinds of twists :D
    Cheers guys!

On the nudity of it all, I think I land somewhere between both Zack and Eddie’s takes
Because no, I don’t find it sexy at all. In fact, it always bugs me out when a woman is fully-nude or even just partially-nude in these scenes where they’re kind of helpless and in danger. Not even because of a moral thing, it just kinda instantly shuts that part of my brain off. I guess the intense vulnerability of being so exposed just overwhelms my other thoughts. It’s not really sexy and it’s hard to find it empowering to me when they still fumble and die because of the script. Maybe if it was a situation where the fully-nude woman was the aggressor/dominant force in the scene I’d feel a different way, but that’s not really something I’ve ever seen before
But I also can understand the humor of the situation and how ridiculous it is. It doesn’t really affect me on a deep level of exploitation, especially with the meta context of the actress being okay with it, so it’s amusing purely because it’s such a trainwreck of a scenario. Even Todd Farmer’s character points out the absurdity of it in the scene
I think nudity and sex in movies is one of the most nuanced and subjective things ever. It’s such a play-by-ear thing that similar instances of graphic nudity don’t bother me based on one or two contextual details, and others can REALLY bother me because of the same. For instance, the massive amount of graphic sex in the Friday the 13th remake/reboot/reimagining kind of feels fitting for the sleazy, college-kids-on-vacation vibe the whole movie has. In this movie, it feels a little more out of left field and just like a checklist trope that got added without consideration for overall tone, but I’m sure plenty of people would argue it fits in perfectly with the tone, too, so idk

The Killer is disappointing, they give it away in the opening scene.
