Friday the 13th (1980) | THE CHERRY PICKER Episode 15

- čas přidán 9. 05. 2022
- 🛶 We are celebrating the first and only Friday the 13th of 2022 by reliving the original classic, which also happens to be the first 80s horror movie we're covering on the podcast, believe it or not. In this episode we will discuss why the original Friday is much better than it gets credit for, the infamous lawsuit which has left the franchise at a creative impasse for the last several years, a complex analysis of Alice Hardy and all of her relationships, the mysteries and theories behind Mrs. Voorhees and the town of Crystal Lake, and of course we'll choose which character we think was most deserving to die.

#FridayThe13th #80sSlashers #HorrorMoviePodcast - Krátké a kreslené filmy
This movie is like watching a kid in a school play. They're not doing that great a job, but they're just trying so hard and doing so much with so little that you have to respect them.
‘We got through it’ is the best way to describe most of this franchise 😂
Watched the first Friday the 13th as a kid. Love how the original is a "who did it" while 2-4 gets into Jason's mythology
The way Eddie thinks never ceases to amaze me and the dynamic between you guys definitely keeps me wanting more
My absolute favorite horror franchise. Obsessed 😊
I remember being in my television history class a few years ago and my instructor was showing us the live teleplay of what would eventually become the academy award winning film "Marty" (1955), starring Ernest Borgnine, and he said "don't be alarmed, because the actress who played Jason's mother is in this", and I replied with "Oh, Betsy Palmer!" And then he gave me a dollar.
Omg Mrs Voorhees and Jason would've for sure teamed up and killed in a silent / Oedipus complex style dynamic duo !
Wow! Eddie’s theory about Pamela and Jason from when he was 14/15 is fantastic!! What a great idea. It suddenly makes everything make so much more sense. I really like that.
The glass breaking is Pamela's mind shattering. She ain't just a killer, she talks in Jason's little boy voice. Coooooo coooooo!
Alice Sweet Alice from 1976 is definitely worth checking out.
This popped up cuz of Zach’s main channel. So glad I found it! Gonna have to watch the previous episodes as well!
Great content!!!!
Another fantastic podcast! Thanks guys!
This was a really fun podcast and Friday the 13th is my favorite horror franchise, I was happy to hear that Zack's first time seeing it was in 2000 because that was the same year I watched it. It was during my cousin's birthday party and we watched all 8 of the Friday movies from the 80's in a marathon, it was so fun!
I am really excited for your Evil Dead podcast, that is another horror favorite of mine, it still really creeps me out when I watch it even though I've seen it dozens of times now lol.
I love Friday the 13th, going to watch the original this Friday.
Thank you for this wonderful content. I wouldn’t mind more videos about Friday the 13th franchise as a whole. Love your videos and podcasts 😊
Thank you! As of now, the plan is to only drop them if there is a Friday the 13th approaching. That way we can space them out and look forward to them for some time to come.
idk why brenda yelling hello into the rain is so funny
I've never really been a huge fan of this movie. I'll get more out of the episodes when you cover the sequels.
Btw, there's a good fan film called "Jason Rising" which features the return of Alice. Check it out.
There's also "Never Hike Alone" which is also pretty good and features Tommy Jarvis
great episode!! you guys should do a special horror movie trivia episode where you compete to see who can answer the most questions correct about different movies in the genre!! would be so much fun!! maybe whoever wins could pick the next movie you talk about on the podcast?:)
Love your podcasts guys.re:Friday the 13th 1 alwsays loved this movie.Would watch every time it came on ch.38 where they would show movies uncensored after 8pm.😊
The thing I hate most about this movie is that when I hear people talk about it, I’m like this is an awesome movie, then I watch it and it’s bad. It’s so weird.
Great episode! Friday the 13th is a series that I love, despite it’s ridiculousness.
We feel the same way!
Just subscribed guys . I absolutely love the Friday 13th series and have watched lots of commentary’s but I must say I love how you guys just talk and discuss and go into detail about characters and plots. Love it hopefully you guys do the same for the rest of the movies. Happy Friday 13th
Cool episode! Don't forget to add Amanda Wyss' Tina of ANOES to the list of first girls offed in a horror flick. Her death scene is more iconic than Annie's in my opinion, and I think hers was a direct nod to Janet Leigh.
This was the very first horror movie I ever watched. It was a VHS copy, the 80s, and I was 7.
There was a Friday June 13th in 1980, but NOT in 1979. Nevertheless, this film is supposed to take place in '79. In Part 4, the tombstone of Mrs. Voorhees says she died in 1979. So, yeah. The dates are royally messed up all around 🤣...
That is a very interesting theory about why Ned is the first one to go at the camp; because he pretending to drown- I never even thought about it like that. One thing I find interesting that another podcast (now playing podcast) pointed out on the order Pamela people kills the at the camp; she killed Ned inside the cabin, she then kills Jack and then follows Marcie into the bathroom where she is killed, and then Brenda goes into the bathroom where Pamela follows Brenda- it seems a little realistic (if that is the right word); where as Part 4 and Part 7 comes to mind, where Jason is at one spot and then kills someone else in a completely different spot.
I also saw this franchise out of order. I did see New Nightmare before any FT13 or NOES film. It must have been in the late 90s. I think the first FT13 film I saw was V and then VI. I remember they were on tv, and I watched them under the covers as I couldn't handle horror as a kid, but passing them at the local rental store always piqued my curiosity. I also remember catching VIII on tv. At some point in HS or college, I finally sat down and watched them all in sequence. I actually do enjoy this franchise more than NOES. Honestly, the only NOES films that I'll actively re-watch are the original, New Nightmare, and Freddy v Jason.
No Nightmare 3??
@@balladofthebroken7569 I didn't hate it, but I didn't enjoy it enough to want to go back and watch it unless I was just doing a full rewatch of all of them for whatever reason
First time to your podcast but I listen to your regular channel. I love the content and not trying to pander to you to get attention lol.
Thanks for jumping over here
@@thecherrypicker I love talking horror movies, especially F13, Scream, Leprechaun and Halloween. I have an theory about the openening sequence of Halloween.
@@thecherrypicker the pumpkins from Halloween 78 and 2018 are Laurie and Michael's shape is in the eye of both. One starts as a normal pumpkin, the other is the resurrection of both characters but still very much the same. Halloween Kills pumpkins is the town folks and the chaos brought on by Michael. Hence the chaotic fire. That's my theory
Eddie and Sandy sitting in a tree. K-I-S-S-I-N-G...in the rain?
Eddie always poses the most captivating hypotheticals ripe for what I'm thinking will be some wildly riveting convo...I lean forward...and then Zack is all "eh...never thought about it". Come on! But also, great podcast.
Zach: "Hey everybody..."
Other guy: "HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA HAHAHAHA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!"
👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻 applause for Andre felix
I love Annie she is so damn cute. A shame she dies so early. I find this film has a very cozy vibe. It's like comfort food. It's not scary but it has some decent atmosphere, which I mostly attribute to being filmed on location in the Northeast woods. I think the first 2 Friday films are my favorite because they have the cozy, easy to watch vibe to them while having the nice east coast woodsy vibe/atmosphere. The rest of the films lose that coziness once they started being filmed in California or the south. My opinion at least. I still enjoy most of the franchise though
.The characters are all likeable for the most part. Alice deserves a bit more credit as a final girl. Adrienne King is an absolute doll. Brenda always interested me. She is so pretty and had a sexy voice and had the carefree vibe I love. The actress in real life became a born again Christian and would later trash the film. She ended up passing away several years back due to cancer. Kevin Bacon is a hottie in this film. Definitely one of the hottest Friday casts overall.
Wouldn't it be cool if they did a requel of, crystal lake survival retreat? Like Ginny, Alice (Alice killed in a dream sequence), Chris... The three final girls get together...
And ad I type this, Eddie mentions what I just said!!
I'd love all the Final Girls returning in Friday the 13th, I'd definitely watch it. Bring back Alice.
Bring back Rennie and have her be an opening kill. Then they all learn that the Final Girls have the power to kill him.
❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
Annie should have been sole survivor.... Period.
I like Friday the 13th but I love nightmare on elm Street
Since there are any Friday the 13th movie, then you had to watch Marvel movie
Completely agree about Steve Christie, lol. He shirks his responsibilities, is an overbearing creeper with Alice, and really shouldn't be running around shirtless. I have the urge to yell "Oh, put it back on, Steve!" everytime I see that. 🤢🤢🤢🤢🤮🤮🤮🤮😁😁😁😁😁😅🤣😂😅🤣🤣
I love XI, but I totally agree that that Tommy Jarvis was the worst.
This is a B movie that got super famous lol I love it don't get me wrong but it's ridiculous.
Actually you got it backwards. There is no Friday June 13TH 1979. June 13TH was a Wednesday in 79. There was a Friday June 13TH 1980. However Pam’s tombstone in 4 says she died 1979.
41:03
weird chemistry, I can’t work out if they love or hate each other
oh they love each other lol
Zach you need to start doing these on your own or find a new co -host. The other guy suuuucks and makes funny things not funny by laughing every little joke like it's the funniest thing he's ever heard
32:50 you are fake news. June 13th 1980 was on a Friday. It would have been on a Wednesday in 1979. 1980 was a leap year.
Ooops. Oh well.
@@thecherrypicker I mean it was the filmmakers of part IV that messed up. The grave should have just said 1980.
Team Freddy
Zach shave the beard to a stubble, keep the sideburns and you could be Wolverine. Just saying 🤣
Zack are you a Scorpio?
Or a Gemini?
Horror movies are why I'm gay lol
oh yes me too lol
What more appropriate way is there to pay tribute to this upcoming Friday the 13th by talking about the movie that made celebrating the day possible?
Obviously, this is a hack rip-off of "Halloween" (I believe the filmmakers have admitted to trying to make a cross between "Halloween" and "Meatballs"), so the film snob in me always looked down at this. If there was ever a movie that was made for the term "camp classic", this is it. It isn't scary, it's rarely funny, it's frequently boring, the script struggles to make things happen in between the kills, and the snake scene upsets me. The movie is flat-out terrible until the last 15 minutes which, against all odds, are pretty good -- Betsy Palmer certainly earns her top billing.
However, I recently decided to re-watch it uncritically, and found a few modest pleasures. First, being filmed on location at a real summer camp and in nearby towns, the movie has an authentic atmosphere of middle-class ordinariness. Watching the kids hang out by the lake and goof around also evokes a dreamy, lazy summer atmosphere, and it's relaxing. That's pretty much it, though.
That said, this was a fun watch, as always. Thanks for the fun content, Zack. Oh, and lol at playing the game of life like Anya Jenkins!
