Halloween Kills (2021) | THE CHERRY PICKER Episode 35
VloĆŸit
- Äas pĆidĂĄn 26. 09. 2022
- đ Continuing our three month coverage of the Blumhouse Halloween trilogy from director David Gordon Green, this episode will be dedicated to the extremely polarizing middle chapter, Halloween Kills. To change up the pace a little bit, we will be organizing this episode into two parts. Since we don't want to come off as being completely negative, the first half of the podcast will be highlighting all of the pros we have for the movie, which includes the set design, the Haddonfield world building, and the KILLS! The second half will deal with all of cons, including the story, the dialogue, and the questionable direction. As always though, we'll still be choosing which character we think was most deserving to die. And believe me when I tell you there are plenty to choose from here.

Hate to be this person but Cameron actually is wearing the skirt until his very last breath. A true homage to Bonnie and Clyde
Went straight to the comments for this
Yessss he wears it the whole movie for sure
Zack where ya at Buddy?⊠lookie here now đđ
This whole franchise is the own multiverse of madness with so many diferent timelines and alternative versions of the same characters.
The missing part between Lindsey hiding, looking âcleanâ and unbloodied and her being found dirty, wet and bloody was very noticeable. I thought Iâd missed something. Everyone I was with thought they had missed something. Very frustrating.
The novelisation went deeper into it. I canât remember everything but she was deep in a muddy ditch and he also injured her throat. Chapter16 on audible. The Lindsey v Michael Myers scene
I feel like nobody gets that the story of this film is both Michael and Haddonfield are PISSED but while Michael is pissed because he just got his ass kicked, barbecued, and lost a few fingers, Haddonfield is pissed because they're afraid which is why they're so quick to point the finger at the other mental patient....the whole point of the mob is they're so afraid and quick to react (like people IRL) that they pointed at the first image they could tie to Michael which would be the patent, especially because in 2018 the way everyone (specifically the kids) talks about Michael its as if hes a taboo ghost story that the people would rather forget so I actually dont think Haddonfield would sensationalize Michael he way we sensationalize this type of stuff in real life....I agree theres a lot of cringeworthy dialogue and character choices but this movie deserves a lot more credit than people are willing to give it imo
Personally I love this movie, i think a lot of the dumb character choices can be chalked up to people panicking and crumbling under pressure...Tommy, as much as I hated the portrayal, was a huge catalyst for the ideas people had about Michael which is why they acted the way that they did, so it serves the story which is something I can get behind...Kills is easily a top 3 Halloween film
Halloween Kills gets way too much hate that it doesn't deserve
Well, if people don't like it, they don't like it. đ€·ââïž
@@silentsaturn7604 oh please people were crying about "Evil dies tonight", being in lockdown for 2 years made you all lil whiny bitches.
Most people who go to see a movie just want like able characters and good writing. If you like Halloween Kills because itâs the âultimateâ Michael Myers murder porn show, then thatâs awesome! but not everyone will feel the same.
â@@jyaps8989 I 100% agree it's flawed as f*ck, still it's prety solid slasher movie character wise and plot wise in comparison to other slasher movies from the past.
With new Halloweens people seem to expect top notch drama that happens to be slasher, while it's the other way around.
They are top notch slashers, that are enriched with drama and decent writing, decent plot, decent characters.
At the end fo course it's all a matter of taste.
I choose to enjoye this movies, and have fun with them
I mean I love the look of myres, the kills, the cinematography etc etc but on the whole I thought it was a pretty awful Halloween movie like most of the movies in this franchise. My personal faves excluding the legendary original consist of halloween 3, rob zombies remake and the 2018. Honestly the rest in my opinion are pretty alight to bad films đ
It would make more sense for Laurie to be proper afraid of Michael if Halloween 2 was still canon in this timeline.
They could just writeoff the brother sister thing
If I just take it as a typical slasher, Kills can be a yay for me. If Iâm looking at it as part of an ongoing story, looking for common sense and continuity, itâs a nay.
Iâm excited for Hellraiser! One of my faves alongside The Thing.
100%. If this was a Friday the 13th style slasher, great! Michael in this isn't Michael, he's Jason.
I think not knowing why he kills some and not others is creepier than knowing. Chaotic. Think about when you come across an animal that's acting strange and you think it might have rabies. Does it? That moment of unknowing is chilling.
Dead Meat has done his Halloween Kills kill count. He did it a few weeks after he got back from taking a break đ
That scene with the old couple was infuriating. I loved them and they Sondra was a callback character in 2018, but She was so dumb! Sheâs at the unlocked door but instead of trying to go out it she turns her back to it grabs a knife and stands there for the LONGEST watching michel fashion a weapon to kill her, and then no attempt to even use the knife she grabs! Like it didnât feel like paralyzed with fear, it felt stupid. So mad they made her just stand there! Thatâs were the movie lost me Lol
Zach!!! Cameron wears the skirt with the hoodie the whole movie! đ loved the episode guys
As per Dead Meat's Kill Count: The actor that physically was Loomis in the flashback was the films construction coordinator Tom Jones Jr and the voice is the same voice actor who did the voice of Loomis in 2018.
Also per Dead Meat's Kill Count: Paul Rudd was approached to reprise his role as Tommy Doyle, but due to scheduling had to decline as he was contracted to Ghostbusters: Afterlife
Halloween Kills, for me it's yay.
As I mentioned under you Halloween 2018 podcast, I am really invested in new movies, and I genuinely think they are products of care, passion and competence (unlike some previous sequels in franchise).
With Kills just like with Halloween 2018 what David Gordon Green and the crew nail they nail big time.
Movie looks great, portrayal of Myers is still amazing, I really enjoy all the established characters, I love all the new side characters and really feel sad when they die, the score is still awesome.
Kills is for sure way more flawed than 2018.
At times is so over the top pompous, the social commentary lacks subtlety big time, movie feels very, very scattered, some legacy characters die way too quickly.
But despiate all of that I really had a great time watching it twice in a theatre.
And for the third time around, rewatching director's cut January 1st, I was pretty moved by it's epicness (even if over the top at times, as mentioned before), probably because of my coming down after New Year's Eve party :D
Which was great to be honest, as I now feel even more invested and emotionally attached to this new time line :)))
Thatâs so interesting, Eddie, about casting yourself as a character in someone elseâs story. Iâll be thinking about that for awhile. â€
Iâm so happy that you brought up the Austin Powers thing đ they should have just cut to that scene of him saying Noooo! after Michael comes up to him. Also someone brought up that Michael McDonald has been killed on screen TWICE by someone named Mike/Michael Myers lol
Weird that paranoid Laurie didn't think about that flaw in her trap (the metal gun closet being able to protect from fire) A real prepper would've designed it so that when those spikes covered the exit from the basement triggered other spikes would trigger covering any opening or crevice in the basement leaving nowhere to hide or at least made the gun closet door slam down and lock.
I love Halloween Kills and I don`t care what everyone say.
Never seen it myself. Halloween 1 and 2 will do for me. Possibly H20 if I'm feeling adventurous and want a satisfying trilogy
@@Michael-cz6ob you should watch it
@@blade5883 If its on TV one day maybe but I wouldn't pay money to see it. For me it's just another cash grab leeching from established original classic. Modern day Hollywood in a nutshell
@@Michael-cz6ob itâs got cool killsâŠâŠyea thatâs all I can say haha
You have bad taste and I don't care what you say.
All of the horrible lines they mention around 1:38:00 đđ I would love to see that in the movie. It probably wouldâve made it better in such a bad way lol
I found it hilarious that Micheal McDonald was killed by 2 different Mike Myers lol
I know! Imagine when Michael walks up to kill him and they cut to Austin Powers. âNoooo!!!â Lol
I actually laughed at the car scene especially when the woman waits until sheâs by the door and ends up shooting herself. It was so ridiculous and such a terrible scene.
They spent a good ten minutes introducing those characters in the beginning just for them to be dead before the second act. Similar problem to the podcasters in Halloween 2018
@@jyaps8989 Agreed. Honestly it felt even worse than the podcasters as they were used as an intro to show the shape and then Laurie locked away in her house. It was bad, but not as bad as HK where they even brought legacy characters back just to kill them off in complete embarrassment. They were out hunting Michael down. They knew what to expect if they found him. It was so ridiculous.
@@Theyrecomingtogetyoubarbara What youâre describing is the main problem with Halloween Kills: all our protagonists HUNT Michael instead of RUN from him. When the main characters feel confident they can kill Michael, the audience will too, which leaves everyone feeling screwed over when all the characters die in so many stupid ways. I mean letâs be honest, Michael would die very easily if you just repeatedly shot him from a distance, movie over.
@@jyaps8989 100% Iâve also seen spoilers for Halloween Ends and Iâm hoping itâs wrong because itâs ridiculous.
@@Theyrecomingtogetyoubarbara Gonna be different for sure. I just want to see some character writing that feels real for once! Seems like this one is focused way more on character.
Loving Eddie's "Sick Sad World" Tee. Daria is such a good show! Great episode as always.
That video game music part, I agree with, but I love it in the best way lmao. It sounds like John Carpenter played the first Resident Evil while composing, got to the Dormitory part of the game, heard that music, and went "Yeaaaahhh!!!"
It would've been so awesome if they had more flashbacks throughout the film totally, like that night actually went on longer.
Kudos to you guys for finding good stuff about this movie to talk about for an hour and 20 minutes. Itâs so fucking miserable to watch I bought the Blu-ray specifically so I could give it another chance, and I couldnât finish it. It sits happily at the bottom of my ranking out of all 12 films.
Wow, below Ressurection? At least Halloween Kills treats Michael Myers with respect
No way, Resurrection and the Rob Zombie films are both below this.
@@jyaps8989 I have a lot fun with resurrection, the beheadings, the reality tv charm of the early 2000âs. Itâs dumb and it knows it. HK is dumb but thinks itâs the shit đ for me anyway
@@j2174 Id rank both RZ Halloweenâs above HK đ
@@GSnickerz I respect that opinion đ€·đ»ââïž
Great podcast as usual, can't wait to listen both of you on Hellraiser. Hope you will also do the very fun 3rd one.
The evil doctor was a good idea in some ways (an evil Loomis) What would Loomis look like if he helped Michael instead of stopping him? Could've been handled way better however.
When they're talking about all the flashbacks to the 2018 film, they ask "how many people actually saw Halloween Kills without seeing the 2018 one." Me, I'm that person. I had no idea this was even a different continuity to the original series until after I finished the movie
I absolutely love the reference to Jay from We Watched A Movie đđđ
me too...........actually prefer Mike lol
I mean, the subtitle says what the movie is about to be fair đ. I love it so much. I love all the new ones to death. It's art and people are gonna like it or hate it. Don't let people's dislike of a movie get to you is a good motto to live by. Opinions aren't facts. They're not wrong or right. Great discussions guys đ
One thing that kind of cracked me up- The reference to Michael being such a famous mass murderer....He only killed 5 people - one in 1963 (about 55 years ago) and 4 in 1978 (assuming they ever link him to the driver he kills for his boiler suit.) Kind of a small body count for someone so famous.
Jack The Ripper only had 5 known victims
They can still do the Rise of the Skywalker-esque scene with all the characters from different timelines forging together to defeat Michael.
I geeked out when I heard you say my name!! Thanks!
I think đ€ the hospital guy is called Tipolli but not sure. It just rings a bell as I actually like this film
I think the Kills deleted scene with Michael behind the bush could be considered canon no matter what version you watch. It doesn't change any story beats or mythology so it shouldn't really be argued.
I don't care what anyone says, the car door/gun death was awesome and hilarious!
I absolutely hated this movie. I was really excited and it was a huge let down. the pacing is a mess and the subplot about the escaped patient being mistaken for michael was unnecessary. I see what they were going for with Tommy but it didnât land. The evil dies tonight chant got old really fast. I did like the concept of a mob going after Michael and Lindsayâs chase scene was awesome. Iâm still going to see Ends but my expectations are much lower for it.
I was happy to see them trying to go back and splice something out of the original timeline rather than the shit storm that has come and gone with this franchise. I can take Kills as a good middle ground for now as long as Ends makes it worth it. Halloween and Child's Play will always be my favorite franchises and this has been a good year for both!
I didn't go back through all the comments but as far as the Lindsay scene goes I've heard two things. First, Kyle Richards actually broke her nose during filming that scene with the bricks.
2) DGG said he had planned to go back and kill Lindsay in that scene but he just never got back to it.
Excellent in depth episode. I agree the movie has many things I can nitpick but every time I watch I love it more & more & just take it for what it is. A throwback to 80s slashers that is a full on Michael Myers movie. Just a fun ride. I canât stand Tommy in this movie! As for the Lindsey stuff, I just tell myself every watch that the aftermath of being slammed into car and most likely having to crawl around in the woods got her cut up & hurt pretty bad.
Cameron definitely had the skirt on in the park scene when they found Lindsey.
You both should do a episode of the podcast of YellowJackets season One :)
The voice for Loomis was the same guy who did the Loomis tape recordings in 2018
I love Halloween Kills :)
I enjoy Kills, but it frustrates me. You can SEE all the ingredients for something great. It's all there. David Gordon Green's vision is clear and on paper? I think it's great. But in so many ways, he zigged when he should have zagged in execution. Tonally, the movie is weird, and it can't decide what it wants to focus on. Does it want to be a super violent slasher? Or does it want to be a thoughtful examination of mob mentality? In the end, both suffer and feel underdeveloped because not enough time is given to either. The commentary it DID make is by far the most interesting part of the movie. But I think the lack of time afforded to explore those ideas with subtlety and nuance is incredibly detrimental. The points are made in the most over the top, in your face way because there is zero time to do it any other way. The Kills are fantastic though, and the 1978 sequence is legitimately an achievement. The portrayal of Michael and the expansion of his lore is fantastic. Excellent score, the movie is beautifully photographed, and certain characters that got the shaft in 2018 are much better here (Karen and Cameron). Though the legacy characters outside of Lyndsay and Tommy (I actually like what they tried doing with Tommy. The issue is that they brush off his mistakes at the hospital immediately and he never finishes the arc he was clearly going through) were completely wasted. It's the biggest mixed bag of the series. But when entries like Revenge of Michael Myers, Resurrection and the Zombie's Halloween II exist? Idk how people can act like Kills is anywhere NEAR those. For me, it's a very shakey yay.
well said
1:27:57 as much as I enjoy Kills despite it's many flaws (as mentioned in my previous comment) this is what I dislike the most.
I would take few "evil dies tonight! more in exchnage of Laurie Brackett moment!!!
They indeed kind of wasted some legacy characters.
Maybe not wasted, but for sure not fully used their potential.
I agree that we could have few more very emotional and impactfull scenes with them.
Especially with Brackett.
Miriam should've lived and been checking up on Laurie in Ends.
Watched it again yesterday with a friend I think itâs terrible. The dialogue , some of the acting, the stupid characters. I also absolutely loathe the firefighter scene if this was Michael Myers from 1978 he wouldnât have done that at all imo he wouldâve found another way out.
Only 2018 & Kills cost me 10 quid all others were a fiver or less on dvd đ
I recently watched H20 is prefer it overall to the new films. However, its definitely too short. Once the 'action' starts, it goes very quickly. Obviously there were a few questionable choices as well.
Halloween, Halloween 2, Halloween H20. Nice and clean.
I am willing to accept most Halloween 4, and bits and pieces of Halloween 5 and 6 within the above timeline.
Resurrection never happened.
Zack is it okay if you could do a episode on wrong turn and the other ones to it including the 2021 wrong turn and do a another one on urban legends the final cut and the urban legends bloody mary and one on it follows and don't breathe and don't breathe 2021 if it's okay with you..................????
One of the things I disagree with that Zach said was that it makes no sense for them to meet up and celebrate, I think theyâre meeting up not to celebrate but to remember those to Michael has killed and spread the story of that night
I'm a huge mixed bag when it comes to Halloween Kills. There's some things that I think it does well and there's some things that I think it was poorly done.
And Cameron is wearing a skirt the entire movie đ
He knew how to drive a car without ever driving one why couldn't he answer a phone?
Itâs an absolute nay for me
I hate when I really enjoy a movie that everyone else online hates.
The knives with big John and Little John is a play on their D size. Big John is the top who has the smaller D and Little John is the bottom who has the bigger D.
This is the best Halloween, even better than the first. Let the truth seer into your skin. EVIL DIES TONIGHT đ
Lmao
I mean myers did kill some evil people that night so i guess your evil dies tonight was kinda right
29:36
for what it was I actually loved Kills. Lived up to its title. Holy shit.....but hated Ends starring Cory.....ugh!!!!!
Cameron is wearing the skirt in the park with the hoodie. Just came back to say so
đđđđđđđđđâ€â€â€â€đđđ
Cameron WAS wearing a skirt. Just rewatched the movie and heâs wearing a skirt
Am I the only one who just didn't like kyle in this? Her acting was very cringy and idk if it was supposed to be .
Halloween Kills is fine to be but then at times itâs a slog especially the dreaded scenes at the hospital and then combined with dumb character decisions makes it a nay for me
Kills is laughably bad. It felt like a doubling-down on every general complaint people had with the tone and writing of the 2018 film, comparable to Rob Zombie making H2 as obnoxious as possible as, at least partially, a troll. Canât wait to see how Ends continues to turn this reboot timeline into the type of farce that DGG and Danny McBride used to justify resetting the timeline (again) in the first place
