The OP of the story didnt even have to go back when asked by the police. Simply said "No, I'm not, my manager is a dumbass for not watching the front after telling me if I didnt like doing a job I wasnt paid to do to just quit, so I did. That part is a civil matter, the criminal matter of his accusations however you might want to get in writing, and have him sign before anything else. Then feel free to come an arrest me, however, there is zero evidence other than his word, meaning you dont have enough evidence to even come and arrest me right now. Pass it onto the investigators, they want to come and interview me, well you can get my address from my old employer. But if you arrest me, and prosecution chooses to take it to court, I will make certain to sue the city, your police department and that dumbass manager for it all when I am found not-guilty and my arrest was invalid."

Without double-checking, the Captain initialed some boxes and went to sign the document. Finally, he noticed that the signature block was prefilled with the other Captain's first name. He made the required fixes and forwarded the paperwork to the correct Captain, with a note attached. The note went something like this: I have erased my initials and initialed my erasures.

oh there are definitely idiots out there that get enough money up to start companies. my father's boss was one of a few people that bought a few key assets of a big company when it closed. He made his money just through climbing the corporate ladder at the original company as far as I know. anyway this guy is dumb as a box of rocks. The main asset they got from the original company was the data, in the form of an antiquated server and a 3 stacks of antiquated hard drives...each is five 1mb disks the size of dinner plates. 1 stack is the working drive, and the other two are backups. on these are the entire company's proprietary product data, proprietary software, as well as payroll. so boss gets to work early to do something, and the server crashes, ruining the data integrity of that stack. so he puts on the second one and it crashes again, so now there's only ONE backup stack remaining. My father gets to the office just as his boss is loading THE LAST STACK ON...! if my father had arrived only five minutes later, they all would have been looking for new jobs! and I wish this was the only example I knew of, but that's only one of the stories he's told me.

I worked retail and I had customers exactly like Debbie who returned their products and got angry that they got less back because they bought their stuff at a different location. Maybe this is different from store-to-store, but we were NOT allowed to adjust the amount to account for tax. The only exception I remember seeing was the time the store manager literally unlocked one of the registers to give a Karen a quarter so she'd calm down and leave, and even then he told me to NOT do what he just did b/c it's against store policy. He only did it to avoid what would've otherwise been an inevitable screeching match.

The Cell Phone Story reminded me:
I've been staying with friends for a lot longer than either of us wants.
One of them I'm convinced must be on the spectrum, or he's willfully incompetent.
They raise chickens, and had four new ones. They're kept separate until old enough to be introduced to the adult chickens as Pecking Order is a real thing. New additions can be harmed as being considered intruders.
So in the morning the four would be removed from the cage inside the house, and put into a cage in the chicken yard, so the flock not only gets used to the newbies, but can't hurt them.
In the evening they're brought back to their cage inside the house. Generally I'd be doing this; it got to the point I could carry all four, all perched on my arm.
Now and then my friend did it; no big deal.
They own three buildings on the property. I'm in the main house, the secondary house had the interior chicken cage in the back Bird Room, which does have a door, often open but sometimes closed.
This one day, my friend comes into the main house to get me, as the bird room door is closed. I'm puzzled; why can't he just open the unlocked door? I go next door and see all four young chickens standing on a chair in the kitchen, seemingly wondering the same thing as I was.
My friend had been carrying in the chickens, seen the door was closed, and instead of 𝘰𝘱𝘦𝘯𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘥𝘰𝘰𝘳 to bring in the chickens, he put the chickens down, loose in the house, and instead of walking back and just opening the bird room door, 𝘸𝘦𝘯𝘵 𝘯𝘦𝘹𝘵 𝘥𝘰𝘰𝘳 𝘵𝘰 𝘨𝘦𝘵 𝙢𝙚 to come open the door.

He had my dad call him every half an hour. That task alone could take at least 20 minutes as you had to locate a pay phone or booth, find a necessary size parking space for the truck all for “why haven’t you kept up with deliveries? Or - Where are you?” To get half the deliveries done was a major chore to do in northern New Jersey. From what I understand that dispatcher didn’t last long especially when the union got involved.

2nd Story: 8-yr-olds in Middle School? Isn’t Middle School just Junior high +6th grade? I’m 40 and went to what had to be one of the last junior highs in the States. I was actually 2 years ahead of my peers, as I started school a year earlier and also skipped straight from 4th to 6th grade, but even I was at least 9, in 6th grade. I think everyone else was 11. Thank the Big Jeeze for an early puberty, though! By the time I was 10 I looked 12 or 13, by the time I was 14 I could grow a full moustache and beard. I was buying beer from convenience stores at 15, and regularly drinking in local bars at 16. I’ve only been carded an handful of times post-17, and that’s only by those weird people who card everyone. I lived a rough lifestyle, so I looked 40 by 27 or so.
Of course, I had some severe health issues, then (totally related), so I chilled out a bit, and now at 40, I can pass for 30, except for the few white hairs in mi beard.
P.S.: Forgive me for the novel, but I’m a cripple and I spend lots of time reflecting upon my glorious youth. I kind of have to, because if I look forward to the future, there is nothing good waiting for me.

Last story: How does someone like that run a company? Simple. Nepotism. Before my mom retired, she got moved to a different department and the boss was a nepotism hire. She was denser than a sack of rocks. I know this because my mom was basically doing her job too. Any correspondence from the woman started with “I’m panicking.” My mom figured she didn’t have long until retirement but even then she couldn’t stand this woman’s incompetence and she wound up retiring early. Unluckily for the boss, my mom was asked to give a review of her to a panel with the boss present. The boss asked how she did at her job and my mom laughed in her face and told her about all the things she did that hindered my mom’s ability to do her job properly. The panel wasn’t pleased to hear this and the ex-boss started crying. Real professional.

Only A Man: I had a customer get huffy with one of my coworkers because he has a thick Texan drawl. Surprise: we're in Texas. Bell Helicopter has a huge presence here and we were supporting Bell Helicopter. She asked for someone smarter. FYI - in call centers, it's a 50-50 chance you might get a manager. Usually, you're passed off to someone who's been there longer. Like the older sibling is considered a free babysitter, "mentors" and "subject matter experts" in call centers are just people tasked to do managerial stuff without the pay raise or training - or authority - all while taking calls. So since she didn't like a "Foat Wuth" accent, I threw on my South Carolinian, got her fixed and sent her on her way while my coworker was giggling at my east coast southern drawl. My mother was born and raised in Tennessee so I have a nice southern accent repertoire to pull from. (My Cajun is horrendous).

Years ago I used to work retail and customers pulled the same crap on me all the time. They’d try to return items that they’d already purchased and have me re-ring them up so that they could get the sale price. Fine. I would look over their receipt and often find items that were on sale when they bought them but not on sale now. For example, t-shirts that were buy one get one free when they purchased them days ago, are now regular price. I would explain to the customer that once I gave them their money back, each item would be re-rung at the price they are now. If we were having a 25% off all items in the store sale but the t-shirts are no longer ‘buy one get one free’, the customer may actually end up paying more for the items. I would try to explain all of this BEFORE starting the return and ask them if they’re sure they want to go ahead with the transaction. Most of the time, they wouldn’t even listen to me. Often I got attitude as if I was trying to keep them from getting the sale price. Whatever. They were always shocked when the total ended up being more than they originally paid. “Why is it more? You didn’t ring it up right?!” Then I would have to explain it all over again.🙄

His manager asked him to stop or be fired for theft. Op stop sorting the trash and the city stopped sending the company a 2000$ check (more or less) for good practices. When the CEO came down to see why they found that cop's manager was cashing those cheques because they thought it was a bonus. Manager got fired and maybe jailed for embezzlement. However, if this is a job that you are being paid for, then it doesn't matter what they say you have to do your job and give them the reminder. If they don't like it they can take it up with your bosspirit or, they can deal with it and get the work done and you won't have to remind them. But you shouldn't be taking orders from them. Also, in that story, I think it was supposed to be 8th graders not 8 year olds. I don't think 8 year olds would be in middle school. Lol

As a paraplegic and double amputee, I'd have taken the park refund and food, but I think I'd find some kid to give the shop voucher to, but that's just me. I'd also have acted the same way but maybe stepped it up a notch by not telling the supervisor I couldn't walk, especially before my amputations I'd have let them realize what's going on then laugh it off and leave it as a teachable moment.
Like the time I got a guy good in college. I was in sociology class, and we were discussing religion (I live in south Mississippi, aka the middle of the Bible belt). Well, the teacher asked (hypothetical, I'm sure) how do you know if God is real? One guy in the class said, "Well, you didn't wake up paralyzed this morning, did you?" I meekly raised my hand and said, "I did." There was silence in the class until I started laughing, then the class burst into laughter. I don’t think the wheelchair story happened (and if it did, it was embellished for Reddit). I’ve worked in theme park ops for 3+ years, and it’s possible it’s at a park where the policies are different but I doubt it.
Attractions operations management at every theme park I’ve ever worked at is not allowed to touch money or refund guests anything. Guest relations handles all of that. They might have taken them over to guest relations to help remedy the situation but they are unable to hand out anything but merchandise/food vouchers.
Also as far as guest situations go this is pretty minor and unless OP was significantly more angry than they let on, there is no way any theme park would refund the full price of admission. It’s much more likely that they just got a ticket to come back another day.

The person was returning two bags of chips because "they hadn't got the special". I was called over to finish up the transaction after the supervisors had just finished taking off the old total from the system, and all it needed was for me to ring up the two bags at the special price. I did, then tried to finalise it to get her refund.... except, it was now saying she owed us a cent.
