    I agree, there aren’t too many reliable, easy to work on, rear wheel drive, manual cars under 20k. Reasonable examples of s2000s around me are going between 15k-19k and for what you are getting I think it’s an amazing choice.

    I sold my e92 M3 competition to get super clean AP2 that I daily drive. While the initial costs are pretty comparable, the maintenance on the S2000 is exponentially cheaper. It's also a lot less stressful being back in a Honda knowing how reliable it is and not having to worry about my rod bearings exploding my engine. The e92 M3 is still slowly deprecating, while the s2000 has been climbing in price consistently over the years. I say if you want one get one while you still can afford it.

    I’ve heard a lot of people complain about the sky high prices of s2000s lately. But the only reason for wanting the prices to come down is to buy one. If you really want a car and can’t afford it, it’s not because the car is overrated. Prices are directly related to demand. There is an increasing demand for s2000s as they are becoming less available. It’s a good thing. I don’t want to see more high schoolers buy them and wreck them.

    Car enthusiasts need to understand that the oldest S2000 is 23 years old. This is almost classic car territory! It is amazing and inspiring that the S2K continues to be the benchmark for more modern cars. Nevertheless, it is unfair to compare its price to performance ratio against newer, technologically advanced, and more powerful sports cars. Cheers, decade-long AP1 S2K owner.

    • @theRated
      @theRated  Před rokem +2

      I agree but I do think it is valid/fair to compare aspects of performance because we would also compare reliability, collectibility and maintenance costs which the s2000 is def top tier, balancing out the performance/tech aspect. Overall, with all things considered I don’t believe it’s overrated at all.

    It's just such a complete package. The thing is a dream to work on, parts are readily available and there is a huge aftermarket, it still looks great even after all these years and it's just so dependable. Doesn't require a computer to be plugged into it when you fix it, just fit a new part and off you go, handles amzingly, sounds epic, earns it's keep and you'll probably always get back what you paid for it, to me it's a no brainer.

    Pretty much every time i drive my Laguna AP2 I get comments, see people taking pictures of it, etc. It isn't because it's reliable and the BMW has a grenade under the hood, passer-bys who don't have to live with the maintenance don't care about that stuff. They still say "that's tight", "lit", etc - thats just cruising around today. It's so strange because I bought in 2015 and few people cared. Had an E46 before. Different car but the S2K, impractical as it is, has become the best car I've ever owned.

    I think the closest fighter to the S2k has to be Miatas. You can get an NC for half the price of the Honda, leaving enough budget to add a Rotrex and coilovers to give a very similar driving experience. Or spend more for an ND2 which already has power, and just do the coilovers. Big difference is, the S2000 will gain in value, while those others will probably lose value or at best hold steady.
    The Porsches are great cars and beautiful, but a very different experience. I was ready to trade in my NC and move up to a 987 Boxster, but decided I like my Miata better. If you like the S2000 revs, a Porsche will feel like a diesel. They also have shockingly bad shifters compared to the AAA-tier ones in the Miata and S2k. They have no LSD available except in really rare 987.2 examples, and really tall gears that put you between 1st and 2nd on a touge road. They're also notably heavier than an S2000, and WAY heavier than an NC, and absolute yachts compared to ND.
    The S2000 is awesome because it's a mouth-foaming high-energy lunatic. It's not comfy or refined, it doesn't cruise, it doesn't waft, it ASSAULTS corners. The Porsches cruise and waft. They can assault corners too, but it's a different vibe.

    $25k for a 100000 miles as a not rich person it makes you rethink if you can keep it atleast for a year since no space for people or trunk space
    $50k is for those very low mileage grama garage kept
    $12k is still the range for high mileage 150xxx-300xxxmiles 1st gen ,flooded,stolen/rebuilt titles

      For the working man with a family, yes. But for friends and such, nowadays everyone likes taking uber, meeting up in their own car, etc.

    Overrated for sure but I do understand because they're no longer made but damn they aren't worth the price.

      I understand what you mean, totally different autos but what I’m saying is …Comparing cars that are in the same price range currently. Basically saying if you have “x” amount of money, which would you rather have? Similar to saying, would you rather have a raptor or a used r35… yes both are not nearly the same. Not the same type of vehicle, performance, intangibles etc… but considering the prices is the “insert car” overrated/underrated for what you get? Hope that makes sense. Reason I like doing these is because it 100% brings up everyone’s different opinions. 🤟🏽

    BMW engineering is trash
    Porsche engineering is trash
    Both of those cars can’t even make to 200k mileage.

      I’m actually looking at S2K versus a Cayman S. Would you recommend a 2008 Cayman S at $24 to $27K or a ‘06 S 2000 at $34? Both options are around 50 to 60,000 miles.
      Another option is a 2006 Cayman S with 100,000 miles for 20 grand.
      I was initially looking to get an S2k but the prices are just getting crazy

    • @theRated
      @theRated  Před 5 měsíci +1

      @@mbmurphy777 wow tough one. I think most would still say the S2k. S2k is already an icon. I don’t think you’ll lose any value on it plus it is 100% more reliable. The porsche, as you drive it, it’ll lose value. Just my humble opinion.
