I don't know what I find harder to believe, the fact you got Daddy Miata on your show, or Daddy Miata is an absolute G.
You mean an OFG! LMAO!
In that first photo in the video, the gentlemen second from the left is Norman Garrett, one of the engineers who worked on the NA Miata. I had him for 2 classes in college and he was cool as shit. It's not a surprise at all that the other madmen behind the Miata were also dope.
you have forever impacted my life cause Bob will forever live on as Daddy Miata in my head hereonafter.
This guy is amazing. His story about how he worked on the car in his spare time, and how the Japanese bosses were testing his dedication, is just hugely inspirational.
@@Dr.TJ_Eckleburg Japan also expects their employees to work like slaves...
No way you actually got the inventor himself on the channel. Really shows the dedication to the channel, props!

Bob Hall is insanely funny and charismatic. You'd think he's a Hollywood actor or something with the way he presents himself! Thanks for having him on the show. This was a real treat.
How. right you are he is Presenting himself as the Designer. Creator and Inventor of the Eunos Roadster aka Mazda Miata when in reality it was Designed, Created and Invented by Masakatsu Kato. Nothing worse than Yanks claiming they made something that was actually made by someone else

Inconceivable!
I met Bob and his twin brother up in the canyons of the Hollywood Hills. We all used to race up there between Coldwater Canyon and Mullholland. Bob and Jim were incredibly funny and we always had a good time talking cars. They both spoke Japanese too. We loved the Lotus Elan, so when Bob worked at Mazda, he was able to get them to recreate the Lotus by making the Miata. Really happy for his success.
Wow, I can't imagine two of them in the same room. One is crazy enough.
You're telling me not only did you meet the guy who created the miata, but you met him on canyons. That's amazing!
Also, there’s a movie about us inspired by a magazine article about our canyon racing. Called “King of the Mountain,” it starred Harry Hamlin and Dennis Hopper playing crazy as usual. It’s laughably bad. In the peak years there would be at least a hundred people watching from “the pits” at the top of the hill, with tow trucks waiting for mishaps.
im not a car person. im not sure why i clicked on this, but im glad i did. what an incredibly intelligent man. id love to hear him talk for hours

Miata's rule. I bought mine way back in 91, and here it is 33 years later and many different vehicles, bikes, dune buggies, side by sides later...the Miata is still the most fun car I ever owned. Thanks Bob.
I had a 92 and learned how to instinctively handle weight distribution in turns and swerves on that car which made me better able to dodge accidents later with that knowledge.

If something sells then it sells and vice versa.
Keep in mind, not all designers have good design sensibilities. It's not as deep a quote as you might think.
Bro is a literal genius
@@spankyjeffro5320 I mean, it's not about if the buyer is a good designer or not, but about how as a car maker you want to build a base that is good enough as is or interesting enough for the buyer to keep building on. The best ones are cars that have both. Prius was good as is, JDM drift cars are interesting and modern Yaris is both, which is why it's selling like crazy right now.
Too bad the average person is really terrible at designing things.

And that is why I have a Class III tow hitch on a BMW 3 series. Do what you gotta do with the car you have.

That really speaks to the whole mind set they had when developing the car. That it was meant to be a blank canvas that can be 'finished' by the buyer if they choose to.
