    Nice overview mate, seems we agree on pretty much everything. So far the patch is looking good, and im pretty positive about the steps in the right direction when it comes to listening to the community. They still have a way to go, but its a hopefull sign :)

    You're spot on about the whole EC situation. They're not listening to the community (SB and RB) at all and it makes no sense. They don't seem to follow any of the EC feedback threads at all anymore either.

    The B-18 Bolo and the Hs.123 were made available with this patch. My first impressions of these aircraft were mostly good, but I'm interested to know what you think of them if/when you fly them.

    Great video m8! I actually have been having some computer trouble... While that seems to be fixed for the moment, i had been attempting to load the launcher, but nothing would happen each time! Eventually, I selected the "Latest Launcher" button below the "Play" button and finally the new patch was downloaded (1.59.55)! I haven't yet had the chance to play or even see the new hangar and such... But I look forward to doing so as soon as possible! I installed a new fan in my case as my older one had burned out as had the large fan on the side, so to keep my rig cool as possible i managed to install at least a new one on the rear! Happy hunting, m8!!

    And you forgot to mention the best new feature: The talisman and backup indicator.
    Played some low level AB to get the new Hs 123 and B-18A and got indeed the impression the damage needed to take down a plane has been increased. It was harder to take down planes using Mg's, even .50 cals.

    Maybe it is just me but the arcade seems even more arcade now as planes seem to be way more agile, specially closer to stall speeds. Makes me worried we get much more prop hanging ufos and stall tactics becoming less useful.
    Edit: From the patch notes : Airplanes agility have been increased in “Simplified” and “Mouse-Aim” modes. Maybe this one is the change I think I've noticed.

    Yup, damage models have been buffed. stuffing me up in game thanks Gaijin...
    Since patch 1.43 I find it hard to hit things with a high (250) ping.
    Now that I cannot hit, I need cannons to bring things down.
    Now I am hitting with cannon and it is not enough...

    For me, the most important change was the note of "increased agility in AB" mode. It really has changed some of the planes' handling. Let's see if it stays like that, might be a need to reconsider some tactics for/against certain airplanes.

    Gaijin hasn't listened to the SB community for a couple years now. The mode still faces the same problems it has for years and Gaijin seems intent on adding more frustration for SB players.
    And Gaijin has recently said no bomber cockpits are in the works basically.

    The airspawn for bombers us so OP. Bombers just climb to space now it's just too easy for them :(

      The new spawn puts a 4km altitude advantage over most non-interceptor, so this really encourages base rushing (more time climbing = more time for fighters to climb. base rush = fly over fighters). To counter the Tu-4 spam US teams are actually sending fleets of bombers as well, both sides trying to out-bomb each other. It's like arcade ground strike that ends alot faster now, giving fighters no chance to earn anything before game ends. Makes me feel bad for RB fighter pilots :(
      I admit to be part of the B-17 spam, but hey that's my downtime from arcade.

      Honestly I can't criticize anyone spamming T4 bombers right now in RB. Its pointless doing anything else, and its a very easy way to research jets especially while many of them have lowered RP. Its up to Gaijin to put this right.

      +long5hot Fair but sad (on Gaijin's part) point :( only solution I see for the Tu-4 is to tier it higher so it sees the jets; the fast slashing attack nature should at least offer a chance against the defensive 23mm guns. Trying to climb to it eith a prop is inviting disaster from the Death Star

      I don't think even jets would have much affect on it. The 23mm cannon are just too good out to a long range, and like most other bombers right now the Tu-4 is very tough to kill.

    The early American .50 cals (the ones without the API-T flamethrower) are basically unusable now. You can absolutely rake an enemy's entire cross-section with literally dozens of bullets and nothing will happen. No crits, no fires, not even any visible damage. Just a bunch of silver lions telling you you had "hits". It's ridiculous. Things like the Corsair and Hellcat are useless now. They fly well, but what's the point if you can't inflict any damage?

      I had the same issue with the He 111 B I used to like that it had cannons, but I might as well just fly the V5 for all the damage it does...

      I did not know they had changed this and had a session Sunday and thought I was really rusty. Wondered why my aim was so bad. Turns out I was actually hitting.
      Keeping the pitchfork away, I am hoping that this was a move too far in this patch and Gaijin restore normal damage soon.

      Sorry to pick on an old comment, but after Long5hot noted recently about bombers being downed with several 20mm shell I went to try the 50cal planes again (early only so far). They are back in business lighting planes on fire, though I do notice a slightly reduced fire chance. But the greatest surprise I'm seeing is that guns are capable of ripping wings off as well; Yak-1s, Spitfires, even a He-111 had their wings torn off by my Corsair. They also love to pilot kill, or cause tail control loss (this one is odd since I'm seeing alot of it lately). 25 kills in 7-8 flyouts just today, mostly from BnZ (short firing window) and attacking bombers (burn to death)
      Definitely recommend trying them out now :)

    To be honest, regarding the Me-109's overheating- it's long overdue. I'll take the F4 as an example. IRL, it could fly at 1,3ata for around 26 minutes and at WEP (1,4ata) for only 3 minutes (could be stretched longer if done in short bursts). Anymore than 3 minutes at a time would result in engine damage and unstable RPM. And no, there should be no performance increase cause the max manifold pressure was 1,4ata, as it already is in the game.

    The flight model changes always scare me. I do not want my favourite planes to be nerfed. 109s,190... are they better or worse no? Also the P-51D seems to be more heavy now and lost a good bit of its high speed manouvrability, which was one of its main assets. Any feelings on that anyone?

      109 and 190 are heavily nerfed. 190 has bugged surface controls that makes it shit at high speeds (which was pretty much the only thing that was strong at his plane). 109 was nerfed to death, really bad FM, worse roll rate, high speed retention of a bomber, WEP reduction and HUGE engine power nerf and climb rate on G2 at least.

      Yep, Bf 109's are unbelievably nerfed. WEP overheats the engine faster than in other planes. Roll rate is almost 0 at speed less than 300 km/h (it is better with using rudder). I really don't know why they nerfed that overheat - Bf was one of the best and now it is one of the worst overheating planes.

    As a player who has just unlocked the MiG-15 after the MiG-9 a few days ago, i ha diced feeing about the Tu-4 spam. The upside was I was winning almost every game, the downside was that most fighters would target me as I was a vulnerable target, unlike the bombers. I'm still not really sure if I like or didn't like them overall though.

    2:45 -- Increasing the distances between spawns might actually encourage more people to climb for altitude advantage, but it will also tempt more people to dive to insane Arcade-only speeds to rush ground objectives.

      Actually, I think there's a little less suicide-GF-rushing, as the planes have to fly a little further to get there. The spawns are only further back, they're not higher.

      I think I explained my rationale badly there. Spawn, climb a bit for extra altitude, then dive above spawn height from around where the spawns used to be. So there should be potential for a higher speed pass on ground targets if any initial altitude gains are traded for speed because greedy. I doubt people en masse will stop to dive for the ground immediately, and while some of them will stick with the climbers, most won't. This I have observed, at least, in past versions.
      But don't get me wrong, I think more people will start to climb, and that's a relative win.

    2 or more Tu-4's on a russian team practically guarantees victory in rb now. It certainly needs to be uptiered or have quantitive matchmaking applied. Now that tier 4 and 5 rp costs are lower will we see some superprop gameplay longshot?

    the other day I play against a G8n5 or something (japanese bomber) And me in a G6 BF109
    we reach nearly 9k meters of altitude and slow speeds.Nothing. Couldnt shoot a single shot
    We play again and I start to climb agressively towards him and couldn't reach him.
    other thing is, now it take like 3 passes to shoot down a b17 with mk108pods. I don't mind much because those bombers are strong, but against a suicidal attack is not fun and the b17 E/late climbs faster. they have always the upperhand.
    Another thing is the .50 do less damage than before, the other day I end up igniting a Lagg 3, three f·$%" TIMES!

    I wonder if the nerf on the germans would be to counter their well rounded playstyle. Guess there's no such thing as being the jack of all trades on their end. granted i'm sure the 109 pilots could work around it by perhaps not rushing to climb so quickly unless needed, and just focus on energy style fighting. fockewulf may be the better energy fighters but 109's could still pull it off. As far as team killing goes, i'm not sure if it's exactly a thing to worry about. i had only 1 griefer on a team and said pilot was reported by a few others and possibly kicked ( i haven't seen this guy so hopefully punishment was delivered.) & the spawn system should probably be consistent with takeoffs to perhaps stretch out the gameplay. Having an interceptor to start with will really cause balance issues and thus create a new meta. Perhaps it could be used on planes people render as garbage vs other planes, but if they don't do that then we will be seeing alot of interceptor only setups just for that advantage, so therefore either removing this or forcing players to all take off wouldn't be a bad thing.

    Distribution of plains over "typs":
    There is no way to dind out what it is, besides fliing them out untill you are on a map wher you can see it!!!!
    ITs the same for SP in GF RB and for the ware bonds
    No way to desingquise beside testing

    Ki-61-II is sadly not a good plane. It's maneuverability at low and high speeds is really bad. The biggest problem is the insanely bad rollrate at high speed that makes it insanely hard to get guns on target if you try to shoot down an evading enemy with a boom and zoom attack. The normal Ki-61 handles far better. The Ki-61-II is only faster and maybe a bit better at climbing.
    Also one thing that is not in the patchnotes but is definitly noticeable. Bombers take a lot more damage before going down. That is really insane with planes like the Tu-4, Tu-2 and B-29. They spawn at very high altitude, climb reasonable well, are fast at altitude and have good defensive gunners. Seems like in high tier and in very low tier matches bombers will take over the crown of being the most powerfull and most important planes from the fighters. I find that very sad...

    Overheating of the Bf-109 is not a problem at all. With MEC and about 50% cooling flaps you can WEP for the whole match in a G-6 at higher altitude. The same goes for the K-4 with a little bit more cooling. In my opinion the Bf-109s are a lot more powerfull now. They handle very well at high speeds and keep their energy well.

      Sounds like I'm gonna stick with the MG151 Ki-61 after all.
      And from what I read on the WT Live, apparently not only the Tu-4 is hard to kill, its 23mm guns are laser accurate.

      They are very accurate. I tried to get up to intercept one in my J7W. No chance. If a Tu-4 wants to bomb your airfield on a map like Khalkin Gol you can only watch. Because you are not fast enough to climb up and they carry 12 tons of bombs. Seems like they really messed up the balance with those heavy bombers.

      Have only flown out the 109 F4 in BR so far and it overheats pretty fast. MEC might help but I dont think ppl should have to learn to use MEC to fly the plane. It also feels heavier but have to fly it out some more before judging. They also decreased the roll rate that was already pretty mediocre so for me its pretty clear its a nerf.

    0:45 -- I've half-uninstalled WT for the time being, so this is an aside to the content of this video. It has to do with the launcher and updater. I'm a Linux user, and I've been using Gaijin's in-house Linux version (not the one that downloads via Steam). So, I've never actually seen that updater you're showing. All I normally have to use is a single optionless "Update War Thunder" application in the program directory, and it wasn't prone to any dreaded 0 Kb/sec hanging. It was, however, prone to crashing partway through updates, though not in a destructive fashion. That is to say, start it again and it would finish.
    I said half-uninstalled, and what I mean is, I moved the downloaded files from my main hard-drive to a backup, because I needed the space on my main HD. And WT is a pig when it comes to HD space. It's tempting to want to move it all back to play, but on the other hand, the system I'm currently using wasn't able to run the game on anything except the lowest settings, anyway. I'll probably be taking a break until such a time as I have a more dedicated gaming rig.
    To end on a question, have you ever tried WT on another operating system?

    The reason for bombers being in SB is that they're straight up non-viable in other game modes. So bomber pilots have turned to SB as a last resort, which is really unfair to SB players.
    Bombers need a place in the game in RB and AB. They should have some chance of making target and dropping bombs instead of dropping repair bills with no value added to the team.

      Oh I do understand that, however, this patch has introduced bomber damage models that are simply too tough, sometimes almost to the point of being indestructible. As a result I & others are seeing growing bomber-spam in AB, and fighters just not bothering to attack them as there's more chance an AI gunner will shoot you down than of you damaging the bomber. There's got to be a middle ground somewhere, hope they find it.

      Oh of course. I haven't taken my bombers out that much. I fly mostly in RB, and my B-24 seems to still go down as fast as always, but it's always been horriby overmatched for years now.

      Funny you should mention that plane. I took on a B-24 with my I-185 M71 in AB yesterday. 3 full ammo loads targeting his right wing from above & below (he was flying straight and ignoring me), and I was only able to make one engine smoke. Then he set me alight & it was all over.

    Have you flown bf-109 in this patch? I've tried bf-109 f1 - it lost its firepower, roll is missing... Or it was just my bad luck...

      Bf-109s handle now better at higher speeds. But worse at low speeds. I really liked the handling of the Bf-109 G-6 and K-4. With MEC you can really get a lot out of them.

      And in case some think he may just said the wrong plane, he is showing the N1K2-Ja in the video, which can be identify by its wings placed at the bottom of the fuselage, instead the N1K1-Ja has the wings placed at the middle of the fuselage.

      +Oberst_Stein which is not an issue, bombers were too easy to kill for them to be enjoyable at higher tiers.
      However, what is an issue is increased durability combined with a buff to spawn height that makes it very hard to catch them.
      For historical accuracies sake I prefer bombers not being too durable, but at the same time I do not enjoy them flying so high that nobody can catch them, heavy bombers are really just impossible to implement correctly, as they would irl always avoid places filled with enemy fighters, but in game they get thrown into air battles with tons of fighters.

      I played a few AB games today, and made 4 passes against a Halifax with my Bf109 F-4. Tons of hits, didn't scratch his paint. I gave up, so he turned & followed me trying to play the gunship.

      +long5hot sorry to jam in a different conversation, but has the 109F-4 change in arcade (climbrate, rollrate, low-speed handling)? Or are the problems mostly RB?

    Super not a fan of the DM changes. the F8F is basically unflyable right now, 5 matches without a single kill.It used to require some patience, but now I have trouble even killing a stalled plane.

      The F8F-1 was a difficult plane before this patch. I hate to imagine what its like now. By the way, not only has 1.59 made DMs tougher, there was also a change to make US .50 cals worse. Apparently they have even less hitting power now than Breda SAFATs.

      Did it? Ok not crazy, cause I knew my aim wasn't *that* bad. Naturally I just got the stupid thing spaded. Ah well, at least the corsair still works, and I'll have the p38J unlocked before too long.

      Try fly the lower tier (Tier 2 P-40E ) , it was terrible compare with 1.4x patch. It feels like flying a bathtub in the air and the 50 cal. barely kill anything but Japanese Zero :(

      Just took it out...it's mostly the same. It's biggest issues are still bleeding speed with even the slightest turn and the fact climbs and accelerates like a brick. Guns are worse, since no more 50 cal flamethrowers, but they do work provided you make the shots count, I can pull a couple kills a match it seems.

    what I noticed in 1.59?
    the Ki-43's roll rate is still too slow, spitfires are still too durable and bombers are still too boring.

      lol were spitfires durable before the patch? no... that are the softest, squishiest planes out there.. i started using the typoon with more fire power and slower turn rate and im loving it now i know what all the FW pilots are on!!

    Hi longshot i want you to test this theory. i have been playing for a whole day, in AB and RB and it seems like the 50.cals hispano MKII have been nerfed. i have only been getting assist and death streaks. could you test that out. it makes me sad since US where very balanced with the guns they had. id rather play the 1.55

    Too bad for ps4 1.59 really ruined our hit detection again. They just got it fixed for us and then launch another patch.

      Heh, I suspect that'd be a guide for all modes as the problem isn't arcade-specific.
      Off the top of my head, I'd suggest flying the Japanese R2Y jet bombers which should be able to climb above the Tu-4s, then make high-speed attacking passes from above, constantly varying your direction.
      The R2Ys have weapons powerful enough to bring a heavy bomber down (even with their currently concrete damage models) & an airspawn that gives them a chance of intercepting before the bomber reaches its targets. The only problem might be whether the R2Ys can survive the hail of 23mm gunner fire.

      Yeah I know. Right now in Arcade its a revisit to the dark days of patch 1.4x, characterized by endless bomber spam & battles rarely lasting more than 5 minutes.
      I've been playing a bit of Tier 4 AB lately, and I really have not found it enjoyable at all.
      Unfortunately the concrete bombers are in RB too. I'm starting to wonder whether I shouldn't take another break from WT until balance is restored to the game.

      From my experience so far : Yak9UT, Yak9P, Mig9, Mig9 Late. They all can mount a 37 mm cannon, 1 or two well placed hits will disintegrate even a Tu4. In my opinion there's an even bigger problem with bombers : the gunners continue to fire with deadly accuracy from planes ripped in half, in flames and tumbling to the ground (a problem common to all bombers).

      +Torwulf games King Tigers have their sideskirts modeled in the damagemodel now. T95 has APHE ammo. Balancechanges on a lot of Groundforces maps. Also the idea of giving some heavy fighters a better spawnhight is not bad for balance. But as always they only bring them half baked into the game.

      Yea over 600 kph it can not maneuver anymore. Seems like all german pilots have to switch to the Bf-109s now.
