- I never knew before, but China has reindeer! And I tracked them down in the Greater Khingan Mountains of Inner Mongolia.
The Ewenki ethnic group are known as the last reindeer tribe. They have used reindeer for hundreds of years, and still breed them today. I travelled to the city of Genhe, Inner Mongolia, to track down China's last reindeer tribe and come face to face with the beautiful reindeer of the Greater Khingan Mountains.

Nice view. About 10 days ago, you were in Hainan, and now thousands kilometer north.

There is a big reindeer herd in the UK too! My first time to see reindeers was in the Caringorms National Park of the Scotland, which was a great impressive memory. I am from northeast China but I just know there are reindeers in my home region as well🤣

Wow-so much greenery! I would go to that place just to feed the squirrels and chipmunks~ Primarily seeing China vloggers who show their apartments/hotels and occasionally feature old infrastructure and rural locations, I've always wondered how suburban areas look~ It's neat to see the houses the Ewenki people had built for them. Their neighborhood looks like it could be in a suburb anywhere in the US. It would be fun if the Chinese government went beyond European reindeer and would in the future, even introduce new species instead of reinforcing an existent, native one. It would be so cool to see European bison or red deer or even the Clydesdales from the UK roaming around in China. I wonder what reindeer milk tastes like, and at the place where the peacock feather head accessory was sold, if reindeer antler accessories are sold, too. I know Manchus used antlers for archery thumb rings so I'm sure the Ewenki would use something similar~
I wonder what it tastes like too. I didn't see any on sale unfortunately.
I'm not a zoologist but I feel introducing a foreign specy into a new environment is kinda dangerous. Also, I get that Korra reference, nice.
@@stonechen2480 It's the same species... They're all reindeer. They're different breeds. Like if two dog breeds meet, they're the same species. They can still breed with one another.
@@TravelinChina As I said, not a zoologist, and reindeer is pretty high on the food chain so I will give it a pass. Too many reports on invasive species recently, got scared.

A beautiful place, but I heard that during the winter this city is incredibly cold! Coldest city in China. So if you go, maybe avoid November and December. Way too cold!!!

I'm doing some archaeological research on the xianbei tombs this year. 陈巴尔虎旗 is one spot on the migratory routine of the tuba xianbeis. There're golden accessories of the patterns with three reindeer n' birch utensils found in the xianbei-tombs. Just like camels to desert folks, reindeer, which can be heavy loaded and still survive in the swamp, as i could imagine, were very important for the forest folks, like xianbeis. Now I have a vivid picture of the whole theories through this video. Many thanks.🎉The scene with the rain was perfect timing - reindeer deer or raindeer?😊
