- Making friends inside the Tashilhunpo Monastery, in the city of Shigatse, Tibet.
This is the last episode from our trip through Tibet. Today, we visit the largest monastery in Shigatse, Tibet's second largest city. I wander around the monastery’s magnificent grounds, meet some very friendly locals, and tried to say hello as best I can using the local customs. Where are you from ?
Just looked up Tashi Lhunpo Monastery info. Had no idea that this is where the Panchen Lamas stay, also found out that the Panchen Lama is also part of the Gelug Sect (sometimes referred to as the Yellow Sect of Tibetan Buddhism), same as the Dalai Lama. Shigatse is the second largest city in Tibet, relatively unknown, most people outside of China only heard of Lhasa. Just as Europe's ancient cathedrals are massive, opulent and tower over surrounding buildings, it looks the same in Tibet, gorgeous temples and monasteries surrounded by very poor people and humble dwellings. Religions are still a dominant force in people's lives, just look at the recent US Supreme Court decision.

Life long monks would still need to make a living ,probably from public donations or temple service.
government funds.
My cousin used to work in a temple as their accountant. He said nowadays, it's like a government position. They have salary ranks, insurance all covered. Many of them nowadays are with high education, doing theology research and stuff. But of course, temple service and donation are there too.

@@patrickchong6579 in fact . in Tibetan buddhism tradition. most of finalcial supprt coming from family members. so it's very hard for a boy from poor family to become a monk in Tibetan area. that's one thing very different from han Chinese Buddhist temples in China.

Nice video! How is the accommodation and food in Tibet? Can tourists travel independently in Tibet, or can only do so with a tourist guide?
Foreign tourists have to go with a tour group but there's lots of opportunity to walk around freely. The food is ok, to be honest, it's not my favorite kind of cuisine.

在西藏室外要戴口罩有点过，不戴口罩喘气都困难吧？。
非常困难，差一点喘不过气
同情一下。其实西藏地区高海拔，氧气稀薄，病毒的传播应该不会如低海拔地区容易，除非近距离接触携带病毒量大的阳性患者。西藏卫生部门做个实验吧，防疫政策不能搞教条主义，卫生局长带队戴口罩走5里路试一下。如果进藏的检测工作做得细致，阳性病例极少，没必要室外戴口罩。除非有漏网之鱼，本地人去外地被传染，在高海拔地区还能正常行走。
晚上和老伴儿走路，天气稍凉他喷嚏不断，我在他旁边走大概收获他的无数飞沫颗粒。虽然他打喷嚏时用短袖遮嘴，我跟他讲，你若感染奥米克隆病毒，我必染无疑，这是接受病毒传播的最佳距离。
戴口罩运动或者爬坡才呼吸困难，正常行走完全没问题。就算没有疫情，很多人也会戴口罩，防紫外线
