Pure Harley Earl creation. He liked sensuous flowing/waterfall lines, and, of course, a lot of chrome. These cars were works of art. Harley could've signed them on the dash like a painting. The '49 through '54 cars had such a solid look and feel of quality down to the smallest detail.

This is one of those love it/hate it car styles with that "bucktooth" grille. I personally love that front end making it one of my favorite Buicks. Also unique is the venti-ports in the hood not in the fenders as other Buicks. I still keep my eye out for a good 50 Buick and would be proud to own any model or body style with that grille. Dennis' car is the best available of that car. I really appreciate people taking the time and money to preserve these cars as they came from the factory. People who do not remember these cars new have no idea how nice they were new when so many were seen years later in run down, not running and rusty condition. Lou, outside of the variety you bring, you show fans what these cars were like new to show how unique and high quality these cars are. Thanks Dennis and Lou for this story.

My 70-year-old brother recalls these cars like yesterday, remembering seeing them as a child, all around the neighborhood. Beautiful is an understatement: incredible, immaculate, not of this world. And as you said in the video, you float down the road, and the ventilation system,
something we’ve forgotten, and the cars didn’t need air-conditioning. Thanks for sharing this beautiful presentation, my nearly 99-year-old mother enjoyed it as well, she was a mere 28 when this car was new. My grandparents owned a 1950 Buick Super. It was an elegant car. The Dynaflow transmission was indeed smooth--no shifting of gears. It was also a gutless wonder when it came to acceleration--0 to 60 in about 30 seconds. The clearance between the seat and bottom of the steering wheel made it possible for me to sit in my grandfather's lap and learn the sensation of a steering wheel. And grandmother managed to get a ticket for doing 85 mph on highway 97 through Bend, Oregon. The car was totaled in 1959, clobbered by a drunk driver. Had seat belts been available, they would have walked away with a few scratches. The replacement car, a super sharp 1957 Buick Super, had seat belts--and a passing gear which grandmother used liberally. And she never got a ticket in that car--she could outrun CHP with very little effort.

Well no, Lou. Even in 1950 a Buick owner probably didn't work on his own car. He was probably a doctor or a lawyer or owned his own business. He had his dealer do all the work on his Buick.
This car was pretty flashy for 1950. GM didn't spare the chrome at all. Probably didn't see more chrome on a car until 1958.
Being a convertible as well as near top-of-the-line GM marque, this car was a pretty self-indulgent personal extravagance. Whoever bought this car wanted you to know he had "arrived".

It’s a beautiful car. Harley Earl at his best. We all know why the guy on the cover of the book in the trunk was smiling don’t we?.
I like the 50 Buick Roadmaster better than later models that were almost the same because that grill comes down over the bumper rather than stopping at the bumper. I just think it looks better.
The straight 8 is a smooth running engine because the pistons are all going the same direction. Up and down and not at an angle. Lifting the head off of one of those is a job though.
I’m seeing a lot of my favorite cars on your channel. I want them all. I guess I’m going to have to figure out a way to get the kind of money Jay Leno has.

Hi Lou, another wonderful video of this magnificent classic Buick Roadmaster. What a beauty. Being from Australia but having lived in the US in the 80's and having driven on many of those American country roads I therefore especially enjoy when you go on these rides through the magnificent countryside passing solitary farms on green pastures etc. And growing up in Australia I was not aware of all of these amazing classic American cars until watching your channel and others. But I did find a magnificent rendition of a 1950 Buick Roadmaster put out by Jonathon Ward's CZcams channel. Even Jay Leno does a show on that car showing what modern engineering can do to such a classic car. The sound of the engine is that of a roaring lion!

What a splendid Buick! I love this Era of Buicks, there amazing cars and this has to be cleanest one I've ever seen. That engine looks as clean as an engine in brand new car, and I love the color of the engine, many modern cars unless there high end don't have colorful engine like that and all the detail on this is incredible, though unnecessary, it makes the car more beautiful and what makes cars from this era so amazing. I like the way hood opens, as far as I know, that's only a Buick thing, I've never seen any other car from that time period with that feature, its makes Buick stick out. Great video Lou!

Just a big unit this car is and so luxurious it is too. That old straight eight was a power house back in the day. I could see that car would be a floater for sure and Buick's were known to be a soft floaty ride. I bet that ride along was really fun. Wow - This is certainly one of the very best 1950 Buicks that I've ever seen. If I owned this car,I would be sure to put a right side rear view mirror on the right side door,as it's very difficult to see that side through the tiny glass rear window. These were very smooth running, soft riding, and well made cars. However, the Dynaflow transmission, although very smooth, provided very slow acceleration until you reached about 18-20 mph. They also caused the car to use lots of gasoline.Regardless,it's a fantastic car - I would love to see it up close....
