Wow. What a jewel.
My father had a 1956 Olds 98 and if memory serves me, it had on top of the left floor mat, two buttons: one for changing the radio stations (the Wonderbar radio), and the other for high/low beams.
Thanks a lot Lou, always bringing us joy with those fantastic uploads.

In '54 the Skylark kept it's uniqueness while the Olds Fiesta and Cadillac Eldorado began sharing the rest of their lines sheet metal. Thanks Lou!

Saludos y bendiciones!
Hi Jaime, Happy to read you enjoy the restoration and looks of this car :-) Glad to share the ride with you. Blessings received, and blessings to you too, Lou
One of the trio of speciality halo cars introduced by General Motors in 1953 along with the Oldsmobile Fiesta and Cadillac Eldorado. The Fiesta was a sales flop that sold only 458 units and then was discontinued. The Buick Skylark sold 1,690 units in 1953 but sales fell to 836 units in 1954 and was discontinued. The 1953 Eldorado convertible sold 532 units and cost $7750 (about the price of a modest two-bedroom house at that time). Sales of both the Fiesta and Skylark were weak because they both cost as much as a new Cadillac...but they weren't Cadillacs! FoMoCo had a better idea with the 1958 Thunderbird which had a unique body and interior. The 1963 Riviera was more of a sales success than the Skylark and didn't have a Cadillac price tag. The 1954 Eldorado had a lower price so sales improved. Later the Eldorado Seville hardtop coupe was added to broaden the range (1960 Eldorado Seville is my favorite!).

Hello Lou, thanks so much for finding and showing us, (to me) the best looking automobiles from yesteryear.. they were just beautiful..
Hello Juan, You're welcome. Happy to read you enjoy the looks of this car :-) Lou
Always have a soft spot for ‘54 Buicks. At three years old, I drove my Dad’s ‘54
Special into the school yard across from our garage! Somebody got a big whooping!
The waffle pattern seats were used in the 1955 Chevy Nomads, too. A classic!

Hi Sabba_Dabba, Happy to read you enjoy the Skylarks, and here is one more for you to enjoy. Lou czcams.com/video/M0xhwftck4s/video.html
Have to say first off that I Love Kathy's shirt, Rodger is a lucky man for sure to have found his car girl!!! 🙂
This Buick has tons of style and was definitely ahead of the curve stylistically speaking, just look at those beautiful fins and in 1954 no doubt!!! The interior has so many different textures and I Love the waffle pattern on the seats. The wide open sweeping wheel wells were definitely influenced by the GM Motorama Wildcat show cars and are wonderful giving the profile a windswept look along with that beautiful chrome trim!!! That Buick is such a very cool and beautiful car!!! Good one Rodger and Kathy and great video Lou!!!
Hi Hobiemarty, Happy to read you enjoy Kathy and her car :-) Thank you for viewing & sharing the details you enjoy, Lou
The Beauty and Class of yesteryear !!!! Wow !!!!
HI Greg, Happy to receive a "Wow !!!!" from you :-) Lou
Lou , your channel is educational. I had no idea all Skylarks were convertible. What a gem !
Hi Chris, Happy to read you're learning from the Care Takers. I'm learning all the time too, and I find that to be so much FUN :-) Lou
This Buick sported the first wrap around windshield! Thanks. 🎉😊
Thank you for sharing Ronald. You're welcome.
Hi, Lou! So... they duct taped the top to the windows...well, I'm sure Red Green would applaud them! LOL! You're right, I think Buick broke the mold after they built this car. You need a real car girl like Kathy to be the right caretaker for something this rare.
Thanks to all of you for taking us all on Skylark's wings!
Hi iswc27, Fun to share this rare Skylark with you :-) You're welcome, Lou
Thanks Lou. I always like when this couple turns up in a video. They have nice cars and it's enjoyable listening to Kathy.

great car MR LOU
Thank MR CHON :-)
A real beauty…the lady and the car! Thx Lou!
Win / Win :-) You're welcome David.
At 13:18, Kathy says the car has “460 Air”. This is what we called a car without air conditioning back in the day. It was our generation’s joke meaning 4 windows down, 60 miles per hour. I was born in 1954 and my folks didn’t have a car with REAL A/C until dad bought a ‘70 Ford LTD.
Thank you for sharing the meaning of "460 Air".
Beautiful Skylark! What a classic. The chrome trim is like jewelry. And the car overall is showroom new!
The diversity of cars on the channel is just spectacular- from Bugatti Chirons to iconic Buicks, My Car Story with Lou has them all.
Thanks Lou!
Hi Jeff, Happy to read you enjoy the looks of this classic :-) Thank you for the kind words on the diversity of cars I share. You're welcome, Lou
In 1953 Supers and Roadmasters were 12 volts. In 1954 all Buicks were 12 volts. I never noticed the extensions on the rear bumper guards before this video. Interesting style detail.
Thank you for viewing and sharing your knowledge and what you noticed.
Beautiful car 🚗 !
Happy to read you enjoy the looks of this car :-)
You just gotta smile when a mid 50's Buick takes the road! We had '56 Buick Special and I'll always remember how powerful and smooth it was driving down the hiway. It was the favorite car I remember my family having!
Thanks Lou for bringing this one to the channel. 😉
Hi George S, Happy to read this car brings back memories of your family car :-) Thank you for viewing, sharing, and you're welcome, Lou

Tremendous detailing on IP, controls, good color combo, baleen whale grille, nice teardrop shape headlites, this vehicle would have commanded some respect back in the day!haven’t commented in a while Lou, but another nice find!

Hi Rudolph, High praise :-) Here is one more for you to enjoy, Lou czcams.com/video/M0xhwftck4s/video.html
At a glance it "kind of" gives me a 53 Corvette vibe, side view and the fins. Likely the white color also....very nice.
Hi Mike, Happy to read your thought on this car. Lou
Carol & Roger Great car! Looks so sharp. Lou thanks for another great find & story !!
Hi Larry, Happy to share this car with you :-) You're welcome, Lou
Lots of 50s chrome bling too!!
Just the way we like it :-)
I love the fact that it is “her” ride. My wife has a beautiful 2004 Audi A4 Cabriolet that makes her a “Car Girl” too... Those are the best wives to have! Wouldn’t have it any other way. Roger probably feels the same! Great work Lou!
Hi Ron, Happy to read you enjoy "her" car :-) Thank you for viewing and sharing, Lou

1954 - my year, by the way, did produce some gorgeous designs before the more stylish late fifties. That front end sure makes a statement (Get out of my grill)!
Hi Jay, "(Get out of my grill)!" :-) Lou
Harley Earl made a 4 seater with Corvette styling hints for Buick.

These cars were so beautiful the following years54-57 had big shoes to fill in my opinion.Classic tail light Assembly, chrome spears & those elongated wheel wells. This is top 5-6 out of millions of cars I've seen.A hundred thousand dollar automobile all day long.
Hi Richard, High praise :-) Lou

Hi Jim, Happy to read you enjoy the looks and wheels on this car :-) Lou
just gorgeous and it doesn't need a continental kit to look classic.
Hi BartRicky, Happy to read you enjoy the looks of this car :-) Lou
@@loucostabile I learn to drive in a white 1953 Oldsmobile convertible with blue interior so it kind of brings back memories
My father(a 40 year GM employee) said that it was no small task for GM (or any car producer) to build cars with special steel bodies like this one. It is as much more expensive to insert special divots, creases and bumps, especially the trunk on these Skylarks--hence their expense versus other regular cars of their day.
Hi Mark W, Thank you for viewing and sharing your Fathers knowledge. Lou
Thats a cool cool car great video lou damn i bet its a nice feeling driving in a road like that out in the open 👊🏻
Hi Daniel, High praise for the "cool cool car" :-) You're right, feels good to take this one on the open road, Lou

Oh man, big bro Lou!! "Skylark.....have you anything to say to me?" As Hoagy Carmichael's beautiful song asks....Yes indeed, man. This Buick is a classic beauty for sure. And tuff, man-check out that bulldog mug. Just like from the Pixar film and come to life! God bless these older folks and their passion for car culture! Ya know, as a somewhat juvenille delinquent and hopelessly boyish chick crazzzzzy JV baseball jock now in his middle age lol-your videos are awesome and a big inspiration, my big brother. My floppy DC sneakers barely stay on my hyper tubesocked stocking feet and your videos yank 'em off easily lol! Thanks Lou! :) JV Johnny

Beautiful Buick. The sweep spear as it was known, was an iconic styling feature for a few decades. I wish that Buick would bring it back. Can you picture a modern Buick SUV with a sweep spear? I think it would look great! Hello Buick?? Do you watch Lou's channel? 😁
Hi Mike YQR, High praise for this Buick :-) Lou
What smooth lines and embolism. A great time today, Lou. I'm a disabled veteran and have been looking for a good ol'car to wax and shine. Not much money but plenty of want 😎. Love the 50 to 65 classics. Enjoy your content and your Dynamite examples. Thanks 👍 Lou
Hi Tim, Happy to read "A great time today," :-) Hope you're behind the wheel of the right car for you soon. You're welcome, Lou
This may be my first good look at a 1954 Buick Skylark and what a wonderful example! The color combo is perfect, the view of the dash from the front seats is first class - very cool, stylish. The entire car says "iconic Buick" and "quality". I wonder if the model designation "Sky"lark is in keeping with droptop only in this model year. Nice video folks, really nice car!
Hi Bruce H., Happy to read you enjoy this car :-) Good news! Here is one more for you, Lou czcams.com/video/M0xhwftck4s/video.html
It was interesting to me to see the GM hierarchy of brands and their styling evolution. By 1954, Buick and Olds got rid of bulbous fenders and had straighter, sleeker, more modern sheet metal. However, the ‘54 Pontiacs and Chevys still had bulbous rounded fenders and hoods and looked badly dated when compared to the more modern Buicks and Olds. It wasn’t until the following 1955 models when GM “allowed” Chevy and Pontiac to “catch up” and look more modern. Meanwhile, Cadillac did their own thing and still looked massive and rounded even into 1955. Those were heady days in car design and fashion, especially for GM with their 5 distinct brands. And this differentiation didn’t just stop with the styling - each division had their own engines and transmissions.
Ford/Mercury/Lincoln also were differentiated from each other quite a bit in styling, but unlike GM, FoMoCo shared more mechanical components across their 3 lines.
Contrast all of that to Chrysler Corporation, who having less funding, had less differentiation among Chrysler/Dodge/DeSoto/Plymouth and had to do the “badge engineering” game even back then. Their body styles were all alike and shared drivetrains across the board.
Unfortunately for us car aficionados, badge engineering became the norm and by the late ‘70’s, there was little difference between a Buick and a Chevy.
Hi OldRustySteele, Thank you for sharing. Good news! You can see all that styling over the years right here on this Channel. Glad you're along for the ride, Lou
Would be nice if the commentator knew more about what he is describing. Also the 53 Buicks and SKYLARKS were 12V. Also the second button on the floor was to change the station on the radio. On the air cleaner the part to the front is a silencer for the 4 barrel when you floored it.
Hi Tom, Good news! If the commentor doesn't know, that's why we have the comment section, so you can share your knowledge too. Thanks for sharing. Stay well, Lou
Sweet car, sweet car girl.
Win / Win :-)
Thank you for showing this fine Buick! "Wouldn't you really rather have a Buick?" But I have to say that they did have 1953 and 1954 Buick HARDTOPs. Hopefully, that's a minor point, and you will not take offense. None is meant, but I do like being right!
Hi Jed, Happy to share this Buick with you. Thank you for viewing and sharing what you like too, Lou

It would be interesting to know how many of the Skylarks have survived. Odds are more than average have survived by percentage because even when new it was known they were a rarity so we’re given more love and respect than common cars were.
Hi Todd, Hmmm, not sure how many survived. Hoping a Viewer can share knowledge, Lou
