My little Niece was always saying my Bklyn accent was thick or at least thicker than her Mom's. I told her, "You ain't heard nothing yet. Wait until I'm stressed or tired & you'll HEAR my Bklyn accent." Well, I went to visit my Sister & Niece. I arrived at 1 AM. I had woken up at 4 AM the previous day, worked until 7 PM, & drove 6 hours to their house. By the time I got to their house, I was awake for almost 24 hours. I was in the kitchen talking with my Sister & Niece, & out of the corner of my eye I could see my Niece tilt her head to one side & have a totally confused look on her face. I turned to her & said, "You can't understand me anymore, can you?" And with a totally amazed look on her face, she said, "No." I laughed & said, "I told you; when I'm stressed or tired my true Bklyn self comes out."
Trevor- I know what you mean about your Haitian friend. I lived in South Florida & had a lot of Haitian & Jamaican friends. When I was included in their conversations, I could understand them plainly but when they were talking to just each other, their Creole or Patois came out, & I was lucky to understand a word or two. A Jamaican friend of mine got an earful from her Mom when she answered her phone call whilst steeped in a Patois conversation with her friends. Her Mom yelled at her, "I sent you to America to learn to talk like a commoner? Maybe you need to come back home so you will remember your place." Whoa!

When I was a kid, my mother would pronounce 'horse' as 'hoss.' This was in the 50s and my mom was from Boston proper. Bonanza was a favorite TV show back then with one of the main characters named Hoss, who was not exactly attractive, especially compared to Michael Landon!
Since I was a horse enthusiast, I felt PERSONALLY insulted by my mother's accent. I "learned" to speak using my Rs, so I would NOT sound like her …

No, obviously not. Just like all the other reruns, this is old content. Paramount owns Comedy central and this content and plan to rehash everything on TDS until the strike ends. Trevor's not coming back to the show. The writers and actors strike will continue to affect late night television shows. Network executives said they want to hold out until October.
