- South African standup comedian Trevor Noah has been charting his own unique course almost nightly since his debut as host of "The Daily Show" last fall. Michelle Miller talks with Noah about his career and his childhood, recounted in his new memoir, "Born a Crime."
I don't understand how views are down, he's such a brilliant man.

She went on to say online viewership is up. I think he is streamed mostly only because the people that are watching him don't really watch television.
I was never interested in the daily show until trevor noah became the host. Hes cute, hes funny and he has overcame so much.

he's not inferior so much as he's doing something different. no one can ever fill jon stewart's shoes, because he's the best at doing that. but trevor noah can make his own thing to do.

No one can really replace Jon... because,well... he's Jon lol. But if someone was gonna replace him, Trevor is the guy. There's no question. He has the same comedic persona and air about him that makes you laugh but still requires you to somehow take him seriously at the same time. Not many hosts manage that. And Jon even hired the guy himself, now if that doesn't shut people up, then they're probably in denial.
All of this and Trevor is also a self-made man. He's come so far in his life and he's worked so hard for it too. He deserves this position and he handles it extraordinarily well. I don't know about America's viewing rates, but the rest of the world sure as hell loves him.

Exactly! Personally, I don't see Trevor so much replacing Jon as succeeding him. Jon recognized his talent, fostered it and drew him into his world, and then when the time came, Trevor was selected to carry on the mantle.
As for television viewing rates - as someone who doesn't get time to watch shows at the time they actually play on air, I - and I am sure many others like me - go back to watch them online or stream where I can. The Daily Show is doing just fine, just transitioning to a new era of media consumption :-)

Trevor's book, "Born A Crime" is outstanding. Very entertaining ! A story of real triumph and of overcoming so many challenges in life.
If he was able to write his own script for the daily show it would be much better. He is a brilliant comedian and an inspiration to so many young South Africans who have struggle just like he did. Keep going strong bro

In a more recent interview, it was revealed that Trevor does write most of the script. I think The Daily Show is great as is and it does have Trevor's humor and charm but not exactly the same as his stand-up comedy because the two are different. The daily show is about political satire while Trevor's stand-up comedy is mainly about his life experiences. You just can't compare the two together.
He talks about his mother being beautiful in his book and I brushed it off because... it's his mom, he can't be objective but wow, she's gorgeous!

If you have not read his book. "Born a Crime" you don't know what you are missing. It pulls you in & feel like you are living it with him. Always been a lover of fiction, mysteries. First nonfiction and I fell in love with every character. He has an amazing gift and uses it to it's greatest potential. Thank you, Trevor.
Trevor is so intelligent. He pushes me to learn more every time I hear him speak.
He is one of the greatest talents of all times. And he has struggled with horrific problems. He is very authentic.

I was never into late night shows, but I stumbled upon The Daily Show with Trevor as the host last year, and I've never stopped watching since. He's just brilliant and hilarious, and everything has substance.
I miss jon stewart, but if trevor noah was not there, I would also miss him. i like him very much.

I am from Nigeria in West Africa. People in American in 2016 still think we live on trees and hunt animals and funny part is when i speak English the will say your English is perfect where do you learn how to speak English or the will say your not that dark to be African lol. America is a great country and i love it but the people that live it majority of them are too ignorant to the core and i hope this mentality will change soon

I’d live in a tree if I could. They make some pretty fabulous tree houses. Seriously though, I can’t believe there are people who genuinely believe that. And I do wish we learned more throughout school about different cultures. I’ve heard of some social studies teachers who have programs where American students connect with students from other countries. We need more of this.

i remember seeing his stand up about sports in usa and economics in usa. i have never laughed so hard in my life at a stand up comedy. and then some weeks later i read he became the successor of jon stewart. awesome! :D

He's my age and yet, it's as if he's a grandfather recalling the 1940's. As a NYer growing up in the 90's, I have no concept of what that would have been like for him.

I have listened to Trevor narrate "Born a Crime" at least four times and every time I come to the story of his mother's ordeal, I am struck by the sense of just who this woman is who brought Trevor into the world. Patricia Noah is a true hero - not for anything she did, but simply who she is. She is emotionally and mentally strong, she refuses to back down from obstacles, no matter how daunting they might be, and she has taught her children that the world owes them nothing - if they want to be recognized, they have to step up and do their part. She is not a figure of tragedy, but of triumph and for all he may joke about her, you can tell that Trevor is deeply proud to call her "Mom".
