Hey everybody...listen up Dan Rather resigned from CBS "news" ...because the documents he "uncovered" about Bush Jr's service record couldn't be "authenticated". Later in a statement Rather admitted that the documents complete with signatures may have been fabricated by him and his producer Mary Mapes .....but the informatuon contained there in were factual.

I find it hard to believe that a woman who remained single, provided for her retirement to have a comfortable life would give up the money so easily. "The [Bush National Guard] documents could not be authenticated" - let me explain that. Some guy who hated Bush forged the documents that said Bush was AWOL from the Texas National Guard. How could we be sure they were forged? They were produced by the 2004 version of MS Word, which you could just download to try it out for free, and the default font and formatting matched EXACTLY to the documents Dan Rather had relied on. Dan decided the story was more important than the bald fact of the forgery. It was a fun few days back then, all us Internet Detectives easily recreating the forgeries, while CBS and Rather stuck to trying to get Bush. Until his whole team got fired. The anti-Bush people even found that there was an IBM typewriter that sorta had the right font that sorta looked like the MS Word font - but not only was it not an EXACT match like MS Word, no US military had that very expensive specialty typewriter. This went on for almost a week. And, in accordance with the Law of Unintended Consequences, the Bush campaign, knowing the documents were fake, were delighted that CBS 60 Minutes used that picture of a young handsome fighter pilot in uniform next to his TxNG jet. They learned nothing from Ollie North.
