- Twenty-four years ago, Gene Eyster, then with the South Bend, Ind., police department, received a call about a newborn baby found abandoned in a cardboard box. For more than two decades, Eyster wondered what became of that boy. A few weeks ago, he found out, perhaps when he needed to most. Steve Hartman reports.

That was no coincidence that he lost his son and this young man came into his life around the same time. Such a beautiful thing. ❤

Okay, I'll bite.
An officer and a baby walk into a bar. The officer orders a beer and the baby orders Infamil. The bartender serves them.
The officer says, "I don't know, Baby, but it looks like things are falling apart in this country. It ain't gonna be like it used to."
To which the baby replies, "Charlie, consider Aristotle when he said 'The law is reason, free from passion.' As long as we adhere to this most sacred tenet of the Law, we as individuals -- nay, as a _country_ -- shall survive and, quite possibly, thrive as well."
The officer thinks for a moment. He suddenly realizes something. "Hey! You ain't no baby! You're the infamous criminal mastermind 'Philosophizin' Frank!'" Get your hands UP!"
The baby wastes no time. He propels himself at the officer, grabbing his nose with both hands. "Got your nose!" He then tears the nose right off the officer's face and tosses it to the barroom dog, who promptly eats it.
The officer grabs the baby and throws him through the plate-glass window using all his strength. Badly lacerated and lying in a pool of his own blood, the infant known as "Philosophizin' Frank" ceased to be.
His funeral drew thousands of mourners. In the front row, braving threats from many who loved him, stood the officer, saluting the tiny little coffin being carried by six world leaders as it slowly and respectfully passed by.
The officer died fifty-three years later at the age of eighty-five, having lived his remaining years alone.
No one attended his funeral. There were no pall bearers as Philosophizin' Frank had, and so four gravediggers wrestled the casket from the flatbed truck onto the lowering device.
The padre giving the eulogy stopped short, took another draw from the flask in his hip pocket, and just left mid-sentence. An easy fifteen bucks; enough for another flask.
They never did replace the temporary ID board on the economy headstone. They were supposed to replace it with Name-Born-Died stats permanently vapor-etched into it within a week, but the paperwork got lost.
Thirty-eight years later when the ID board had disintegrated into shards of sun-bleached wood, the gravestone remained blank.
