The BMW X6 and it's M-i'fied descendants really popularized the "SUV as a Coupe" genre of luxury vehicle that we now see as pretty much the standard style for high-end SUV's. Audi, Mercedes, and Porsche all now make "CoupeUV's." So while we maintain the sloped back version of this vehicle (the squared off X5M is otherwise identical) adds no practicality, doesn't look great, and removes rear visibility, we have few criticisms about how it drives. The performance, at every metric, defies its heavy curb weight and is still the gold standard of the Fast SUV industry.
BMW provided the vehicle, insurance, and a tank of fuel for this review.

Hey does the smokingtire tm agree vehicle prices are just outrageous these days. 130 for a sport suv? Does the actual parts differ enough to argue the price tag. What materials are used for the entire drivetrain.

Yeah, the camera is awful. It's constantly pointing to where your eyes shouldn't be driving when you're driving fast.

@@DSP1337 Newer GoPros have this effect as well. The GoPro 7 like stabilization seems to work best for driving still.

@@EiteTryHard yes they are. That thing is faster than most supercars from 5-10 years ago....it's like the Dodge Demon. That big fucking hunk of Dodge is faster than a LaFerrari and this also punches well above it's price point, albeit not at the same level.
yea it was cool the first time when bmw put a v10 in the first gen x5, but now that we actually have performance...and I mean performance suvs we realize how wacky it is lol

1:34 I had this color on a 1997 Audi A8. I don't remember what Audi called it, but I called it "eggplant".
Honestly I think it looks really cool, especially from the rear with those tail lights. Having said that, I've only owned the first and second gen X5Ms.

The regular X6 is ugly, in person this isn't so bad, neighbor has this exact spec X6M in fact and it's actually pretty nice looking. Another neighbor has a new M5 Competition also and honestly it's kind of bland, at least in white, if you didn't know what it was you wouldn't pay attention to it. That being said another person in here has an X7 M50i in that real nice blue and that's what I am picking every time over this.

@@sin-enithuigim5197 in that case I can understand. As long as you’re happy, I suppose. Here in the Netherlands we have no purpose or even space for cars like this and especially not for American trucks. So they’re mostly just status symbols, hence my resentment

The single individual driving these type of cars is accurate now that I think about it. Matt hit the nail on the head again lol I used to work with a Doctor who had an X6 M he fits the type of person u expect to see driving these cars
Cool review as always. A practical benefit of all these sloping hatchbacks versus the standard ones is that most of them allow opening the trunk with a hitch mounted bike rack in its vertical position. Huge practical benefit for cyclists. From the happy owner of a 440 GC.

This gives the Pontiac Aztec a run for its money in the looks (or lack thereof) department.
Also, whatever is going on with the panning camera angle needs to stop.
The camera seems to be mounted on an electronic gimbal / stabilizer which will try to smoothly turn the camera even during quick maneuvers. I bet that they forgot to turn up the motor strength ("sport mode") which would have improved the movement dramatically and will still provide a way better image than just having the camera mounted to the windshield alone.

The x6 is the sole reason this vehicle category exists. It looks great, it kills the competition and it evolves gen after gen. Period!
When I'm going around a corner I don't want to see the rocks, I don't understand why somebody would want that camera
The rotating camera made my nauseas as fuck and gave a confusing perspective... it trailed off towards the edge of the corner and was very unnatural to watch. you look towards the apex when turning in, and this camera points away from it. super weird.

This vehicle really looks like what concept cars looked like and anticipated in the late 80s & 90s.
I remember concept designs with oversized rims then profile with that crossover look.
Basically on/off road track monsters.

I really want to see your thoughts on an Alfa Stelvio Quadrifoglio. Seeing that you are so impressed by these SUVs and that Levante Trofeo from last year. That car really deserves the exposure to your audience. It's smaller and lighter than the other fast SUVs as well as has more Ferrari influence than any of them. It's also a little more sorted than the Giulia.

There are videos on youtube of the newest x5m being tracked and actually performing really well and gassing a lot of cars there. It obviously doesn't make as much sense as tracking an m5 but who doesn't want to track their family suv?! It's essentially the competition with the Lamborghini Urus, and if you watch videos on thererace, it keeps up very well!
With all these really powerful suv's out in the market now, how cool would a suv race series be🤔

Always liked the looks of the X6 and that you don't see them everywhere. And let's face it the BMW X6 created the coupe style SUV that Porsche, Audi and Mercedes have all copied.
That new camera setup is super disorienting.
Drove one two days ago and thought it was pretty jarring but the roads in Oklahoma suck. Very fast, numb handling and needs ceramics. More go than brakes. Coming from F80 and G07 owner.

I think the older ones are cooler even though they’re slower - whatever the last version that had hydraulic steering was is shockingly fun and just as comfortable as almost any luxury SUV
