The Rock type has a TON of common weaknesses, and has always been looked down upon for that reason. But, with a really cool variety of them in Pokemon Platinum, can we make the best of what we've got and use them to beat the game's hardest challenge?

We've done some hard Pokemon challenges in the past, but usually they were a solo Pokemon challenge run. What if we still did a really difficult challenge... but with a full team using hardcore nuzlocke rules, and with only one type? Today we find out: can I beat a Pokemon Platinum Hardcore Nuzlocke with only Rock types? No items and no overleveling!

Monotype Hardcore Nuzlocke Ruleset:
(1) If a Pokémon faints, it must be permanently boxed or released.
(2) Only the first type-specific Pokémon encountered in each Route/Area can be caught.
(3) No Legendaries/Mythicals, duplicates, or same-evolution-line Pokémon can be caught or used. If a duplicate is encountered, the next unique type-specific Pokémon encounter can be caught.
(4) Additional Pokémon may be caught for the purpose of HM use, but these may not be used in battle at any time during the run.
(5) No Items can be used in battle (Held Items are allowed).
(6) Party Pokémon levels are limited to the highest level Pokémon of the next Gym Leader or Elite 4 Member. So long as your Pokémon are at or below the level cap when the Gym Leader/Elite 4 Member battle starts, they can level up mid-battle.
(7) "Set" Battle Mode must be used at all times.
(8) No connecting with other games for the purposes of importing Pokémon, Items, etc.

The p o i s o n run, yes.
Not everyone pronounces Charon and Cheren the same.
Love your videos!
I love the rock musician pun names
8 hp was a running theme on this run
"Cynthia appears and forces her egg upon us"
God, finally
Here before Silph changes the title of the video
Previously:Can i beat a hardcore nuzlocke of Pokémon Fire Red with only Poison type Pokemon
"CAN I BEAT A POKÉMON FIRERED HARDCORE NUZLOCKE WITH ONLY POISON TYPES!? (Pokémon Challenge)"
Fixed LOL
@@SilphSpectre nice one silph 😂
Thought I was crazy I clicked the banner notification to watch the video and thought it just took me to an entirely different video 😂
Btw silph, when you were fighting that bronzong at Lucian, because of mold breaker Rampardos could actually hit Bronzong with earthquake for the guaranteed ko.
So the calculation for the odds of hitting Horn Drill against that Luxio would be
33% accuracy of Horn Drill because you were 3 levels higher, multiplied by the 1/3 modifier from +6 evasion, multiplied by an additional 3/5 multiplier for accuracy in fog which comes out to a massive 0.066% chance of hitting Horn Drill. In short, it was extremely lucky that Horn Drill managed to hit.
mah man
If I'm not mistaken, OHKO moves always have 30% accuracy (+ level difference), and aren't effected by accuracy or evasion changes. Could be wrong, I know this is the case in later gens, though.
@@trevorwendt6274I just double checked and you are correct, from gen 3 onward Ohko moves are unaffected by accuracy boosts and evasion so the accuracy would just be 33%.
@@pokeben0525 damn. I was impressed and shocked at first and now I’m disappointed
@@tipiilegends5482 Yeah me too. It is still interesting to see how bad the odds could have been if ohko moves were affected by accuracy and evasion boost.
13:47 After Jaiden’s platinum nuzlocke, knowing you were doing Rock-types only, that’s what I was afraid of because she forgot Jupiter’s Golbat had Giga Drain that crit killed LOL the Quagsire 😢
Yeah, I’m surprised her Zubat had it in the first battle. I don’t remember her ever using that move against me. Guess I just never used a Rock/Ground type against her Zubat.
I watched that it made me sad😢
Man, i didnt know 4 gen is called FireRed.
And besides rhyperior poison type? must be a new update
Loved this Pokémon Fire Red playthrough
I loved when Rhyperior in FireRed resisted the grass and fighting moves with its poison typing
I think I missed the part when rypheior was added in fire red
You mean platinum
@Makayla Miller guessing you were a bit late to the video party lol
It's platinum. WRITTEN
"Cynthia then appears and forces her egg upon us"
New kink aquired.
Silph I hate to break it to you but those aren’t poison types.
And this isn't FireRed
i thought i had a stroke reading the title and looking at the thumbnail when the video was posted
Rhyperior with the STAB Poison Jab
I was wondering the same thing 😂
The randomizer broke him, this is a scream for help
I instantly love that you go up against Roark with Brock's team.
I think you didn't need to risk that range against Bronzong since Rampardos had the mold breaker ability, so you could have hit him with a 200 effective power move instead of a 150.
Ahh yes my favorite DS game Pokémon Fire Red
Hey Silph I think it may be interesting to quickly run through your Pokémon’s movesets and items prior to even just the Elite Four battles. Even a quick screenshot of each Pokémon would only be needed imo and we can just pause as necessary to view everything. Just a thought love the content regardless 👍
That cynthia swept was definitely satisfying to watch after all she put us all through😁
Now I want to see Leaf Green with poison types😂
Wasn't it Fire Red?
@@zimonzieclown1633 Yes, I was joking to go along with the mistitle
I love playing through my favorite DS game (Pokemon Fire Red) with the absolute beast of a Poison type that is (Rhyperior). So glad you now did this nuzlocke. I was wondering when you were going to do it.
Here before the fixed title ;) love your videos!
haha same!
Same lol
Same lmao
Same😂
Same 🤣
Pokemon Firered with Poison Types turns in to a Platinum Rock run. No complaints just a little odd.
He misdid the title. Refresh
My favourite part of these nuzlockes is always when you fulfill the rest of your EVs before the E4. I don't know why but I feel soothed every time hearing those words
Truly one rocky vid. Glad you were able to chisel your way to victory
Probopass has always even a Top 5 Pokemon for me; _Was my only out during my first White 2 Playthrough against Drayden with Ice Punch. _*_Worked like a charm!_*
Did not expect a video today but I'm excited ☺️ Love these monotype nuzlockes (:
Great episode, Sylph! Love the classic rock names! Would definitely enjoy seeing a dragon run in Pokémon Scarlet!
"Toothless"
"Hydra"
"Smaug"
"Drogon"
"Ghidora"
"Mushu"
Benatar’s last words: “I did it all for love. For love… is a battlefield.”
We belong to the.....Thunder Wave.
I know that it takes a lot of time and a lot of work to make these Nuzlocke videos but I just thought of an idea for a Nuzlocke.
What if instead of using only one type of team to run through the game, you formed a team consisting only of the next gyms typing? Example if the first gym is a rock gym you'd have to use a team of only rock Pokemon. Then if the next gym was a water gym you'd have to form a team of only water type Pokemon. You'd have to change the rules to one encounter per type per route per team in order to get enough encounters to form each team and you'd only be able to catch those new Pokemon types for said team after beating the previus gym. Ultimately this means you'd have to do a lot more leveling each time you formed a new type team but it would be an interesting challenge. Also when you get to the Elite 4/Champion you put all of the type teams you used up to this point onto a wheel and spin it and whichever team wins the spin is the team you have to use which also means you'd have to level each team up towards the level cap before doing so so you don't end up with an underpowered team. It's a lot of work but I think it would make for an interesting Nuzlocke and a nice change of pace.
Silph, an idea: is it possible doing a run on Pokémon Stadium? Since it will be release on April 12th on Nintendo Switch online, would be fun to see you doing The gym leaders challenge
Barry should fine him since he got the title wrong. 😂
Really loved this one!! Rampardos is my favourite Pokémon so seeing him rep so hard in this run was an absolute treat ^^
This one was one of my favorites! The Probopass and Rampardos tag team that dominated most of the second half was so entertaining. 💖
Normally I feel like Silph is incredibly unlucky but he was decently lucky here with nature's and everything
Awesome run ! The difficulty level was insane with how little Pokémon you had to work with and the amount of 4x weaknesses rock type have awesome 🔥🙏🏻
Bon Jovi really saved this run. With the big help of Blondie. Love rock types so this was awesome for me. xD
Keep up the awesome content my guy!~
Everyone: So how did you beat this game?
Silph: I threw a rock at it?
Everyone: Staring quietly*
Silph: It was a big rock
I loved the Randomizer that you did a few weeks ago. I would love to see more
I’m ngl this might be one of my favorite runs you’ve ever had! You rock 😅
Loved the musical references! You really share the love of these games man ups to you🎉
Congrats for onother great video.Good job man.
It's a nice fire red playthrough POISON types only
Based viewer sees that the title was incorrect upon upload. Based viewer then knows Silph would have seen 50 people commenting about it in seconds and would merely refresh to see the correction. Be like based viewer.
Soo happy to see you go back to a gen 4 after seeing gen 9 videos everywhere. Love it silph, great video yet again 👍
i love rock types, regardless of their shortcomings, fun run man.
Congratulations on another wonderful run, Silph! Always happy to see when you post!
Yay, a new one! I have literally watched all the challenge videos lol
ur thumbnail perfectly matches the title frfr
This video certainly 'rocked', pun intended. 😆 Now...
Honkai Impact?! You gotta be kidding me! I've been following that game for quite some time now, and it is indeed intriguing. My favorite character of that game happens to be the main herself, Kiana Kaslana. So cool you're playing that, too! 😁😁😁
These are some weird looking Poison types. ;D another awesome video as well!
Cynthia “forcing her egg upon us” isn’t the only time a character does that. In legends arceus, cogita expects us to give her wood.
Great video as always, did I miss seeing probopass on the usable pokemon screen
I absolutely love these challenges in Pokémon platinum . This game is just different from the others and I love it
Everytime you play platinum I'll be here my friend, awesome run btw.
Believe it or not, Self-Destruct can be used strategically in Nuzlockes. Sure you end up losing that Pokémon once it uses the move, but it can be very helpful to take out tough opponents and keep other Pokémon alive.
The Mad Lad, Bon Jovi, did the Cranidos line proud.
Brought a tear to my eye.😂🎉
This is best nuzlook that I ever see!!!!!
Pure strategy and also good nature in all.
Bro I was like "where is he?!??!?"
Top nuzlocke content for sure. I watch the others, but I fiend for this 😂
Congratulations bro for beating the game. At the end of your video, you use my favorite Rock type Pokémon to sweep her team. Keep up the success on your channel bro.
Probopass was my setup MVP in my HC Nuz of UltraMoon. Rocks throughout, Sandstorm for Sand Rush Stout, slow Volt Switch for pivoting, Taunt. It is definitely REALLY versatile af.
Bon Jovi was livin’ on a prayer with that 1hp
The BBBOOOOOOMMM part made me laugh so hard. Great content man
I absolutly love your hardcore nutzlocks !watching every episodes multiple times. I hope u never stop doinh those nutzlocks.
Keep up the great work :)
I can't describe how much I adore this particular game. It had been my life basically. I have 300 hours file in it.
"I'll hardcore nuzlocke with a shock collar when my pokemon faint, a suspended chair lowering me toward a shark tank, and if I lose push a boulder up a hill for eternity."
"How about without calcs instead?"
"Nah too dangerous."
I never realized how much of a beast Rampardos is, holy hell! Well played Silph!
Ayyy more for my overnight Playlist.
Is always funny to hear el risitas laugh, rip buddie, your laugh give us tons of good moments.
Awesome run as always Silph! Top tip for you, Bon Jovi can hit levitate pokemons because of mold breaker, so the E4 Bronzong disnt need to be so dangerous
This video is particularly interesting to me, because it seems like you had to play with damage ranges a bit, letting your pokemon hit the red numerous times to eke out a win. Pretty cool run.
25:17 Horn Drill's accuracy is 30%. Max evasion makes it 3 times more unlikely to hit, so its 10%, now Fog reduces acurracy by 3/5, so it becomes 6%, and finally we add the level difference between Rhyhorn and Luxio to the final result (this is a OHKO move thing, it actually affects the chances of hitting), making it a 9% chance of hitting Horn Drill through max evasion and Fog
1HKO moves aren't affected by accuracy post gen 3 so it will always be 33%
@@TheDarkSide11891 my bad, i misunderstood the bulbapedia article talking about the accuracy of Horn Drill, i though only the fixed 30% accuracy was affected by evasion and accuracy levels
@@simon3662 Ah, it's no problem! In gen 1 it actually was affected by accuracy, which is why speedrunners use it, along with X Accuracy (which also functions differently - making it so that moves can't miss at all, instead of just raising accuracy) to beat the game as fast as possible.
This episode is gonna be...SHOCKING!!
...Aw crap.
The wall said exactly what I was thinking at the beginning of this 😂
The GOAT back at it again
I love your videos I’ve been watching forever. I would love to see bdsp with grass types only.
At 25:07 the chance to hit that Horn Drill was 33%. 30% at base and an extra 3% for being 3 levels higher than the Luxio. Starting in gen 3, OHKO moves ignore accuracy changes, and always have their 30% chance to hit + the bonus chance for being higher level. So, they could be at +6 evasion with fog and you could be at -6 accuracy and you'd still have that 33% chance to hit
37:30 that would be a whole new story if that heracross had guts lol
8:31 it’s pronounced SHA-ron. Named for Pluto’s moon.
I laughed when you said "yeah great benatar self-destruct so useful for a nuzlocke"
Rage is not half bad is a sentence I never thought I would ever hear.
My notification said "With only poison types" with a picture of a Rhyperior and I was like 😵💫
Silph I love your vids but it drove me nuts every time your mold breaker Bon Jovi could have one shot a levitating steel type with eq and you instead did many calcs and crafted theories about how else to deal with them 🤣❤️
Haha great title silph loved this fire red nuzlocke so many poison types lpl
Love these my guy ❤
This is why i love these types of monoruns RAMPARDOS ARC ACTIVATED!!!
Rampardos deserves more love! ❤ One of my favorite from gen 4.
Probopass is one of my personal most forgotten mons. Cool to see it put in some work here
A champion sweep and not any champion but Cynthia...with rock types...damn
6:30 so I just finished the first gym and in my head I’m like “Cranidos is gonna live at least one” but then preceded to get dropped😂
Platinum easily has the greatest selection of rock types.
Wooo new Silph video!! Let's go!
I loved using a probopass on my platinum run, underrated imo
I definitely thought you would give your rival turtwig being the toughest opponent against rock and rock/ground types
Wake up babe, Silph just dropped a new hardcore nuzlocke.
Nice to see the Probopass appreciation, its a really underrated Pokemon.
Silph: dont ask how long i theory crafted for gardenia
Me: how long
I love the fourth gen starters they all can counter each other with their second typings
Benatar is given that name, from what I'm thinking, Your Favorite Martian.
“Hey… no! Bad Sinatra, no evolving for you!” - unexpected, but I had to watch it multiple times
I laughed way harder at that stupid missingo joke than I should have and I hate it. Thanks for the content SilphSpectre. Love you
I always watch your videos multiple times, but man, Cyrus was DESTROYED.
Holy Rampardos! That ending was rad 😳
Your RNG during this run was nothing short of incredible. Good RNG bailed you out time and again, guess the pokemon gods wanted to help you while you suffered through a mono rock type nuzlocke 😂😂
