Steel types are very physically bulky and powerful, but they suffer from low speed and HP. But what if we got access to the full spectrum of Steel encounters in Pokémon SoulSilver... could they beat the game's hardest challenge?

We've done some hard Pokemon challenges in the past, but usually they were a solo Pokemon challenge run. What if we still did a really difficult challenge... but with a full team using hardcore nuzlocke rules, and with only one type? Today we find out: can I beat a Pokemon SoulSilver Hardcore Nuzlocke with only Steel types? No items and no overleveling!

Monotype Hardcore Nuzlocke Ruleset:
(1) If a Pokémon faints, it must be permanently boxed or released.
(2) Only the first type-specific Pokémon encountered in each Route/Area can be caught.
(3) No Legendaries/Mythicals, duplicates, or same-evolution-line Pokémon can be caught or used. If a duplicate is encountered, the next unique type-specific Pokémon encounter can be caught.
(4) Additional Pokémon may be caught for the purpose of HM use, but these may not be used in battle at any time during the run.
(5) No Items can be used in battle (Held Items are allowed).
(6) Party Pokémon levels are limited to the highest level Pokémon of the next Gym Leader or Elite 4 Member. So long as your Pokémon are at or below the level cap when the Gym Leader/Elite 4 Member battle starts, they can level up mid-battle.
(7) "Set" Battle Mode must be used at all times.
(8) No connecting with other games for the purposes of importing Pokémon, Items, etc.

When I saw Beldum, I was worried you'd have to slog through with only Take Down. I guess the special encounter one has real moves!
I've never used a Steelix, so I was unaware of how much beefiness it had. What a surprising carry.
It’s defense stat is just insane. Spdef, not so much. An ember would destroy it but it could probably take a flair blitz

I like that you do a lot of gen 2 remakes, as they are my favorite games from the series. Favorite Pokémon CZcamsr by far.
Platinum, Diamond, Pearl and these Heartgold/Soulsilver nuzlocks are an immediate must watch for me as I still consider them the best gen and games.
They’re the perfect balance between difficulty and giving you moveset and item flexibility. The only real downside is the Pokédex lmao
@@VenomousWolverine Same, I love gen 4, especially HGSS. But then, the only games i skip with challenges are Gen 8 and Gen 9 just because the open world thing kinda ruins nuzlockes for me, idk why.
@@4Tom4lepus4 I think it’s just really tough to tell with encounters and stuff. And it honestly makes it much easier. I think black and white are also really fun to nuzlocke

The levels in this game are so awful. You have 5 badges and a BOSS BATTLE starts with a LVL18 DROWZEE

Even if you spread the exp around, battle every single trainer and equally level all your mons, youre only gonna hit 35-40 which is insanely low and i always hated that. not to mention the E4 starts out at lvl 40 and eventually Lance has dragonites that are level 47 and a level 48 aerodactyl😅

@@ryandiaz9634 i get that, but they couldve easily made the kanto gyms a lot higher in level. Gen 3 you’ll be around 44-47 for the E4, Gen 4 is around the same, and BW& BW2 are some of the highest with near lvl 60 at the E4. Johto is by far the lowest

You should try the flying only hardcore nuzlocke challenge for black 2 and white 2. This is very hard with all the colress battles since it uses a lot of electric Pokémon and steel, flying not being very effective on steel types and Elisa the 4th gym leader. Choose tepig for making it even harder. It also is hard bc of the many ice Pokémon from zinzolin.
Love the steel type, but more importantly the bug type. Seeing Forretress in the intro has me instantly hyped. 🤞

One of my favourite runs I’ve done was also a steel only Soul Silver playthrough! Was my first time using Scizor after admiring it for years, did not disappoint. Awesome vid Silph!

Lucario- Rammstein (my personal favorite, I got to see them live last year)

I would way Scizor is the coolest mon to have with the rocket outfit. Also I agree, this run was really cool, metagross, scizor and lucario are 3 of my favorite steel types

The reason magneton goes down is because charizard was in Blaze and it looked like that was a plus attack nature charizard unless it hit a high roll against your magneton. Neutral nature Blaze boosted fire fang charizard against naive magneton has a chance to ko anything below 30 iv (depending on how many defense EVs are on it)
While I do like Sizzor and Metang more then Steelix

The reason the AI for Bugsy wouldn't use U-Turn to switch to Kakuna is because Kakuna couldn't possible hit Juda since it only knows Poison Sting to attack with.
The AI will never switch to a Pokemon that can't hit your Pokemon unless it has no choice.

Steel type runs are so rare, given how rare Steel Pokémon tend to be. Nice to see them get some love. Have you thought of doing a Bug Type run of Gen 4/BDSP? I'd imagine the use of the Honey Trees would make it a different kind of challenge

As a side note for future HG/SS HC Nuzlockes, the randomizer has an option to "Change Impossible Evolutions". Which allows trade evos like Scyther, Onix and others to evolve without needing to trade them. And it allows Pokemon like Magneton and Nosepass to evolve without needing a specific area to trigger the evolution. And an option to "Make Evolutions Easier" and "Remove Time-Based Evolutions" Those mainly allows normally high level Pokemon to evolve at lower levels and not only makes friendship evos much easier to get, but split evos requiring it to be day or night gets removed and they become stone evos instead.
We need to get Pokémon Challenges to react to one of your nuzlockes 🙏🏻

At least some steel types care about friendship. Lucario is a friendship evolution, after all. (Technically Silvally-steel too since you can evolve Type: Null while it is holding a Steel Memory, if you count that.)

I think the lady that mentioned you going to Kanto is coded to say that if you have any national dex mons registered, which you did because of Juda. One of those interesting quirks about the earlier Pokémon games where you expose some of the underlying scripts by doing something you technically aren’t supposed to.
Yeah it's super interesting actually. I thought the event flag for this would have actually been stepping in Kanto, not merely having a Pokémon from outside Johto. Very cool!

Was the naming theme Metal Bands? Juda For Judas Priest, Maiden for Iron Maiden and Motley for Motley Crue, Cooper for Alice Cooper.

I love the irony of Pokemon fans hating on BDSP (which is an awful game, don't get me wrong) when this is literally what they asked for.
When ORAS was released, it was hailed as one of the worst Pokemon games for altering the difficulty of RS, the changes made to the plot and world design to modernize it, and the integration of XY mechanics.
When USUM was released, fans belly ached that 3rd versions were scummy and stupid as they just saw them as a pointless re-release.
Ever since Pokemon moved to the Switch, people have endlessly bitched about the graphics and literally even made comments like "God i hope the Gen 4 remakes don't look like this."
Well, congrats guys. We did it. Gen 4 remakes came out.
They didn't alter a damn thing about the story. ✅️
They hardly altered the level curve. ✅️
They made the game more difficult with the E4 ✅️
The game doesn't recognize the modern generations in either Pokemon or mechanics ✅️
Outside of a post game event way out of the way for you poor poor original version purists or being hidden in the Underground, there is no acknowledgement of things added in the "pointless came re-release" Platinum ✅️
And the art style looks like they just took the sprites from the DS and made them 4k ✅️
BDSP is literally what the people ask for. While I'm sad my favorite region was remade in a game that's as shitty as DP, I love that Pokemon fans got what they asked for and hate it 😂

A crit quick attack from a lvl17 scyther can do more than 27 HP, 3/4 damage to a lvl16 beldum.
That just shows how strong a scyther is. I mentioned it on a forum the other day, it has a BST of about 580 I think. Like, imagine if the second gym had an alakazam or a gengar. That's crazy.
Wow, not at all my guy. Scyther has a BST of 500. Which is high, don't get me wrong, but nowhere nearing pseudo legendary levels of strength.
Also, how did you end up with that calc? Unless you buff it up with a lot of IV and EV, a crit quick attack should do between 1/3 and 2/5 of Beldum's health, tops.

Random comment, but the other day I was rewatching your True Power/TP Tournament series and got such nostalgia. Do you think those will ever come back? I swear, I've never seen any other Pokétuber do that kind of research AND PUT IT TO USE in such a creative way as a tournament. It sort of mixed my fave things when it comes to Pokémon (teams/lore analysis and actual wi-fi battles). I can't be the only one that wants to see that series make a comeback! :)

I really wish the Pokemon series kept the whole 'fight the last game's Protag' thing. it would of made each game feel more connected and added a nice extra layer of challenge. Bonus points if it checked for the previous games save data and used the team you brought to beat the Elite 4.
