Dark types are mysterious and often quite powerful, and in Pokemon Black 2 and White 2 there are some really unique ones to find as potential party members. Can we make the best of what we've got and use them to beat Pokemon Black 2's hardest challenge?!

We've done some hard Pokemon challenges in the past, but usually they were a solo Pokemon challenge run. What if we still did a really difficult challenge... but with a full team using hardcore nuzlocke rules, and with only one type? Today we find out: can I beat a Pokemon Black 2 Hardcore Nuzlocke with only Dark types? No items and no overleveling!

Monotype Hardcore Nuzlocke Ruleset:
(1) If a Pokémon faints, it must be permanently boxed or released.
(2) Only the first type-specific Pokémon encountered in each Route/Area can be caught.
(3) No Legendaries/Mythicals, duplicates, or same-evolution-line Pokémon can be caught or used. If a duplicate is encountered, the next unique type-specific Pokémon encounter can be caught.
(4) Additional Pokémon may be caught for the purpose of HM use, but these may not be used in battle at any time during the run.
(5) No Items can be used in battle (Held Items are allowed).
(6) Party Pokémon levels are limited to the highest level Pokémon of the next Gym Leader or Elite 4 Member. So long as your Pokémon are at or below the level cap when the Gym Leader/Elite 4 Member battle starts, they can level up mid-battle.
(7) "Set" Battle Mode must be used at all times.
(8) No connecting with other games for the purposes of importing Pokémon, Items, etc.

After binge watching all your videos as of late, I Tried my first ever nuzlocke about a week ago on Pokémon Y. Didn’t lose anyone until I made a sacrifice against Diantha’s Mega Gardevoir. Was pretty proud of myself lol Love the vids Silph!

I started my First nuzlocke aswell a few days ago , in Pokémon Emerald , i Just Beat tate and Liza , but already lost Swellow, pelipper , breloom and pooch 😅

You didn’t have to battle him. You just needed to surf across below the bridge. I know that you didn’t have a team member that learns Surf, but you could have temporarily switched out one for travel purposes.

That ending was incredible!
One thing to recognize in a Dark-type run is that Fighting and Poison both resist Bug. In other words, that Durant didn’t have anything great to hit Scrafty, and it only went for Dig against Drapion because that’s its one type weakness.
In general, when scouting moves? If you haven’t seen all four, assume they have that type you’re worried about - especially if it’s STAB for them, they probably do have it.
I love Nuzlocke runs for myself as a player, and also watch a lot of different creators from PChal to Moxie2D to FlygonHG, ChaoticMeatball and others. One thing I am always looking for is, how frequently does that creator play around crits?
I think out of everyone I watch, your runs have a great listenable quality that lets them be audio-only (not something every creator has), but I also notice that you rarely play around crits, even when you acknowledge that a crit might kill. As a result, not only are there sometimes avoidable losses, but they disproportionately include Intimidate users and screen setters BECAUSE you assume that those things make you safe. Unless you have something with Battle Armor (which you actually did in this run), those things do NOT make you perfectly safe. 1/16 is still a fairly high chance in a long playthrough.
Battle Armor as an ability is at least as valuable as Intimidate, if not more - because stuff like Featherdance, Iron Defense, Cosmic Power etc. that normally wouldn’t be super viable, actually 100 percent makes you safer. It deserves to be valued way more.
Anyway… end rant. You still seem to win most of these, but yeah. There is a distinct lack of preparation for crits.
Another nerve-wracking run finished, good work. BTW, I noticed toward the end you said 'Fighting' when you were using Dark-types. XD
Now, I have to ask: will we ever see the True Power series return someday? I'm missing it. And I remember long ago, on Twitch, you tried to do a B2/W2 Hardcore Nuzlocke using Brock's Pokemon, which is based on his True Power video. Will that ever come up here, too?

Honestly, the record for most characters on the screen in a 2D pokemon game is probably that Cyrus speech in pokemon platinum
I think the scene with the most characters on screen in a DS Pokémon game is the scene in Platinum when Cyrus addresses the grunts just before going to Mt. Coronet.
After playing through all Gen VIII and Gen IX, I am convinced now more than ever that this game Pokemon Black and White 2 are by far the best ones in the Franchise.

I’m doing my own nuzelock on White 2 atm it’s much harder than I thought especially when I’ve not been checking the levels per gym and beat the 3rd gym leader who was 5 levels higher than me! Love these videos bud nicely done beating the champ with 2 Pokémon!

Brock, Roxanne, Roark, Grant, and Olivia besides Gordie.
Then I guess that would make her the dedicated Rock Specialist technically. Just because she's not a Gym Leader or E4 shouldn't discount her.
Your nuzz locks have inspired me to try to do another one. My first one ended in sword against the fire type gym leader, because I was under leveled. So, yeah. I’ll try again at some point. Whenever I have the emotional fortitude to try.

Here's an idea for a run you can do: it's the mono-move nuzlocke, where you are only allowed to use the first move listed in a 'mon's movepool while in battle. This means you won't be able to use set-up moves very easily because you can only have access to up to 6 moves per battle. I think it would be an interesting challenge!

out of all the amazing Dark type pokemon i never thought scrafty is the last one standing, that was very very cool
It facts, you should never sleep on this pokemon especially in nuzlockes, that’s why I love the line so much(Plus Scraggy is cute and Scrafty is badass just like all the other gen 5 dark types), even in later gens with the Fairy type it’s still really good because you can just teach it Iron Head or Poison Jab plus Dragon Dance and you’ll be fine if it doesn’t KO you.

Hey silph, tip for the flying type gym. On the same turn that a flying type uses the move roost, it can be hit by a ground type. However this is only on the same turn as roost and you have to move after roost has been used for it to work

I'd love to see some runs with unique traits besides type. Traits like gender-exclusive evolutions, trade evolutions, form-change abilities, etc.
